First Update
Initially, I really did not think I would have much to say about my progress in social media away from what my normal activity has always been. I have my personal Facebook that I use every day - sometimes I just browse through my friends' photos and updates, other days I'm pretty active and comment a lot. I also have a personal Twitter that I use for my personal interests and my relationships with friends, family, and my peers. On my Twitter, I usually just post some interesting thoughts or events, and I'll occasionally use it to share an interesting article. Beyond that, I have my Instagram, Pinterest, and a personal Tumblr but I don't really use that one very much. With both my Instagram and Pinterest, I only post or "re-pin" occasionally. I feel as though I have a pretty good online presence, and I think that people tend to pay attention to what I post since I don't do it too often or too little.
My progress in social media since the start of the class is actually a little bit surprising to myself! I decided to start a professional Twitter so that I can start a following and a focus based on my future. I also believe it's good to have that account so I can share it with potential employers and possibly connect with potential employers as well. I have been pretty committed to my new Twitter as I try to post at least a couple times a day so that I can be interesting to my followers. I try not to post too often so that it seems like spam or overkill. It has been good for me to have the Twitter also because it forces me to keep up with current events in marketing, social media, and business in general. In order to have relevant, interesting content to post on my Twitter, I browse various media outlets like Mashable.com and the business section of the WSJ. I also try to post questions and thoughts that reflect my personal beliefs in the hopes of possibly sparking conversation. I've only had one reply to a tweet so far, but it was exciting to get feedback nonetheless.
Beyond that, I have kept quite consistent with my casual use of social media. It's nice to have my new Twitter though; it feels like raising a new child! Kind of...but way easier and way less needy...
