This has gotten a lot more notes than I thought it would, and I'm very very thankful that people are being really nice about it. Some of my favorite things I'm finding in the notes are:

People who are just glad that they're being mentioned for once, like agender, intersex, and two-spirit folks. I'm sorry y'all are rarely ever seen. I'm glad I could give you even just a brief moment of pride and joy. I hope you have a great day.

People who are asking if they can have some weapons of their own; people asking if they can provide their own weapons; and people saying "I'm not a transphobe but can you stab me anyways just as a kink thing". Yes, you may raid this armory as much as you like so you can go ham on bigots or do some kinky knifeplay stuff. Just remember to be safe and be yourself.

I took a semi-hiatus from tumblr this past month to focus on IRL stuff (just finished my college degree… phew!) and came back to see this post blew up even more. I’m still very pleased that the comments and tags are full of love. Some more things I’m enjoying:

Folks who only got part of the reblog chain (many seem to only have as far “respect trans men” and none below it) and are adding their own weapons for the supposedly missing identities. Normally I would be worried that folks aren’t getting the whole experience, but I am actually very happy that folks are chiming in their support. Lots of protecting nonbinary people with bows in the comments, it would seem.

Several people tagged this as Lord of the Rings and/or “Legolas and Gimli”. You all have correct opinions.

At least two people have brought pugilism into the mix. While I commend your commitment to protecting queer people is strong enough that you would be willing to bare-knuckle-brawl a bigot, please do understand that I have this giant stockpile of weapons for a reason. Please take one.

Some have asked where the polearms are. I eated them, sorry.

The reason you can't be the next J R R Tolkien isn't because you don't have the talent, but because you're not the right kind of unwell. Tolkien wasn't bent for fantasy worldbuilding; he was bent for constructed languages, and got into fantasy worldbuilding in order to provide a material context in which to ground the notional evolution of the languages he invented. If you want to be the next Tolkien, you can't start with the worldbuilding; you've gotta find something extremely specific to fixate on, and develop it in such depth that inventing a world to contain it is genuinely the most logical next step.

Everyone's always very keen to forget that Shinigami Eyes wasn't actually developed to mark transphobes in general but to help aid the online safety of trans women specifically, and shockingly enough yeah you're more likely to get marked red if you explicitly refuse to oppose the trans cohort of Men's Rights Activists.

The above green-marked statements are obviously pithy off-the-cuff remarks expressing such normal women's frustrations as "men are often misogynist" and "women shouldn't give men infinite patience", but of course these things that are perfectly understandable in the mouths of cis feminists become gross insults when said by a transfem, because everything we ever say is taken in the worst possible faith and we're never allowed to be annoyed or angry.

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
