my favorite detail in true detective s1 is that neither of them wear seatbelts. i assume this is because rust has a death wish and marty feels emasculated by safety regulations

nobody is more stressed than a 24-29yo thinking they are running out of time lol
the idea that predators and abusers are an ontological category of person, rather than everyone having the capacity to be predatory and abusive, leads to people having no regard for boundaries because they think that predation only comes from evil people ™

theo van gogh was the one who suggested that his older brother vincent start seriously painting. as soon as theo was gainfully employed he gave vincent around 15% of his own yearly salary for art supplies, lodging, and food. about 2/3rds of vincent's surviving letters were to theo (including vincent's earliest and last letters), all of which were found stored in theo's desk. theo's child, vincent willem, was born on january 31st, 1890, and vincent was so delighted by his nephew that he painted almond blossoms for him. vincent shot himself half a year later on july 29th, 1890. theo's distress at his brother's death worsened his syphilis symptoms and he died half a year after his brother on january 25th, 1891 (four days before vincent willem's first birthday). theo was reburied next to vincent in auvers-sur-oise at the request of theo's wife johanna.

we were in something of a “heated rivalry” ourselves, weren’t we, beloved? in the 1970s? you were intent on evading my company? i kept microwaving your belongings? we never dabbled in hockey, but we did fuck on that jet ski. and though it’s not yet a nationally recognized water sport, i felt our efforts rose to olympic levels… not that kind of water sports, my love. in that vein, we surely take the gold.
Obsessed with the production of the blair witch project, still, years later. Just letting your cast roam through the woods with all the filming equipment (filming 16mm requires a lot of specialized knowledge and math to get the right exposure and focus too, which you cannot check until the film is developed) and next to no script, no direct contact with them except for leaving notes for each actor to find each day about what their direction was for that day, which they were not supposed to show to each other to create genuine reactions to conflict, and knowing absolutely nothing about what was going to happen to them at night. Oh and creating a folktale so convincing the actors believed it was real until the directors told them they made it up. I think the only thing that was blocked for safety was the house and a general heads up that josh would disappear at some point.
