1. My initial reaction is that the photo has a very aesthetic tone, which I like, and contains several blue hues and a bit of grain. The photo is taken from afar and showcases Toronto’s beautiful skyline.
2. By using colour and space, the photographer demonstrates unity and balance. Through the continuous blue tones and negative space, the focal point is the CN tower and surrounding buildings which seamlessly blend into the skyline. Although the photograph is off centre, the framing and angle of the picture balances the sky and the ground. I interpret this photograph as story of a journey, travelling by downtown Toronto. Including the subway tracks and cars in the photo, it symbolizes movement and a sense of adventure.
3. The artist’s life influenced this experience and her overall journey. The photograph represents her adventure, inspiring her to take this picture to represent her travels. She chose to take it from a far and from a relatively straight angle, as she was passing by Toronto. Due to personal preferences, she meticulously picked a blue filter and to edit it with grain. I appreciate this choice as it brings a vintage effect to the photo.
4. Since my initial reaction, I’ve grown a deeper love for this photo. The further I analyze the work, I notice precise details and features I initially missed. This piece is very well framed/angled and is effective is showing her adventure. By reviewing this work, I have attached my personal experiences to this picture and have made a connection. This is a stunning work and it shows the beauty of Toronto.
