By intellectual movies i mean movies that make you think, really think about certain topics (and this could be in different intensities) like how Okja made u think about corporatism, capitalism, activism; Wall E in a less intense way made u think about the planet, the trashy polluted state of Earth and how it desparately needs human touch to save it…
But what i also mean r movies that just really make u think about the plot itself, like how Memento and most Quienten Tarantino movies, show a movie backwards (start with a death, with the ending of the movie) and the audience has to watch/put together the events in chronological order in order to understand that ending (beginning)
I cant always tell what movie will be one that makes me think… and not all movies have the same effect on some people
At the end of Wall E i was motivated to start gardening again, but prob some people werent moved enough to do something for the planet….
Its always hard to categorize a movie cause movies r just so much… they r never one thing, and sometimes r part of a specific genre/topic but not of great intensity
Sometimws raw tear jerking emotions r evoked, maybe medium rare confused emotions are felt, like you feel happily unsatisfied that the bad guy got away in No Country for Old Men;
Has Inception made you question reality?
Has okja made u question activism and corporatism?
Has The Game (1997) made u question how thrills can go too far, this game is so messed up and mentally mind bending like inception that it almost drove the main character to suicide?
Why couldnt Jack stay on that piece of door with Rose? Its clearly large enough…
Have u connected with Fight Club’s main characters… the feeling of mental insomnia, wanting to be the person u always wanted to be, etc.?
Has ur brain turned to putty because of Interstellar?
Has a movie made u think about morality, human nature, instict, ethical quandaries, corruption, flaws, happiness, sadness, peace, tranquility, sacrifice, justice, closure, health, respect, when ARE actions just, when are they entitled, how do u judge passive agressive almost entitled actions?
In Shutter Island, really, which is worse: to live as a monster or die as a good man?
I got sooo offtopic but its good to question things. When a movie motivates u to do something or evokes questions, -to question things, to think, or makes u passionate about something, that is a nice feeling.
