the entity was a cruel thing, an obvious statement, but here it’s particularly highlighted by yuri’s current situation. thrown to the sharks, her first trial begun immediately, no chance to locate her friends, no chance to learn of the fate she had fallen to. heaved breaths, teary-eyed, dread hangs heavy from lanky teenage limbs, whatever was going on, it couldn’t be anything good. (she wants to go home, let her wake up already, let this all just be a bad dream, please!–) 🔪
yuri, of course, jolts when the other approaches her, on edge, unsure;
she speaks a too-small, ‘who are…’, but he only gestures her to follow.
frozen in place, her eyes dart in every which way as if she’ll somehow
find the answer to this conundrum written in the trees. she’s hesitant,
but eventually, she takes a step forward, and then another, and soon
follows after the stranger. what else does she have to lose, after all? 🔪
standing beside what looks to be some sort of power generator, she can only fidgets. the one thing she can think to do is. well, be honest. “ hey, i don’t. really know where i am? or, um. how i got here, or, what i’m doing, really? i, i’m sorry. ”
the apology rolls easily off her tongue, for what? she’s not quite sure, but… 🔪
"Hey, hey- no apologies. Okay? You've done nothing wrong." Lucas assures with a smile, charming by skin but his eyes speak of pity and sorrow. He lets her hover over him as he begins slow work on the generator, fighting to piece together exactly how he should break the news to her. He gives a cursory glance around before starting to talk again.
"My name is Lucas. The last thing you remember before coming here is something traumatic, right? A car crash, a loss of a family member, the death of a friend. Well that poor, unfortunate, awful thing you went through caught the attention of something bigger. I wouldn't call it a god, but something like it. It took you from that moment and brought you here, to it's realm."
"It thinks you're a survivor. That you have the guts to take on its challenges. So what we have to do is-" he nods to the generator. "Fix five of these. When they're fixed, we can open the big gates and get out of the trial. But if you hear your heartbeat in your ears, hide. Don't get hit. There's something here trying to stop us from getting out."
