The Actor stared at the screen hanging just above his eyeline, circles, dots and lines conveying messages and numbers as the pillar in the middle of the room hummed, an otherworldly energy consuming the surrounding area.

This had to work. For everything to be okay, for him to emerge victorious, this had to work.

The Actor’s TARDIS stalled, the elegant swishing noise slowing to a stop. He took one last look at the charts, took another second to study the levers he pulled and the buttons he pressed. This should be the place. This should be the time -- and he, from this moment on, cannot waste any. With a flourish, the Time Lord turned his back to the multi-sided console, his red coat trailing and flowing behind with practiced style. He reached the door with a confident stride, ready to put on one last performance before everything changed.

The Actor will take his final bow, and The Hero will rise from the ashes left behind.
