“Why can’ I do it drunk, huh? Let me live!” she drawled, dramatic as ever though it only lasted a second before she was laughing again. “I dance by myself a lot. You jus’ don’ see me ‘cause I’m too good at being alone.”
Laughing, Kara shook her head and continued to dance. “Maybe you shouldn’t be alone all the time. Go out and have fun which I’m glad you’re doing now,” she admitted and winked at her. “I’m glad you decided to coming out with me.”
Lisette nodded along with Kara’s supporting words, though it didn’t erase the twinge of guilt in her gut. “You think this will ever go away?” she asked, sniffing and blinking away some more tears. “You think I’ll ever get away from them for good? Because it feels like no matter what I do or where I go, I’m always stuck with them..”
“What will ever go away?” she asked, tilting her head to the side. “The guilt? Because if you’re talking about the guilt, yeah. Honey, the guilt will go away once you realize none of this is your fault.” Smiling at Lisette, Kara took a deep breath before exhaling. “If you really want them to go away, you’re gonna have to stop taking money from them and completely cut them from your life.”

“Don’t remind me,” he said, shaking his head at the memory of him freaking out when she had ignored him for a few days. “You dealt with your mom’s estate? What does that mean?”
“It was a bad time,” Kara concluded and shrugged. Kara remembered how bad it had gotten for her and promised herself she would never do it again. “I went and sold some of her things. I’m still debating selling her house. Apparently my dad has been paying it off but it’s under my name now.”
