Horror game question

So I don’t play a lot of horror games, or any in general. Are their any horror games that you can really connect to?

Like Are there any horror games that have that one mechanic where it doesn’t tell you what to do like hide, or run, or find a way out; and their can be an almost endless amount of options on what to do that will determine the next step or outcome.

Like let’s say someone is banging on you door and trying to break in. Your first instinct on what to do in real life can be done in the game. Run to the window look outside, only to see him break in or see who it is. Grab a knife and run to a closet, see him walk past you. Run out the back door.

Like the only thing you know or the game hints at is that your in danger and you have to figure out yourself how to survive without any help. Any dogs included in the game are required to live though.
