“I’ll trade you my Charms homework for your Transfiguration. I haven’t done mine yet, and I don’t know how to go about it.”
“Nice try, but I can’t do all the work for you. Just help with the research. Pro tip, though, write a little bit bigger than average so you only get two lines to an inch instead of three – makes your essay shorter without the professor noticing.”
“Uh, thanks?”
“To each his own. The candy’s a perk too, though.”
“True. I get that.”
A Date to the Dance [Kasper & Tatiana]
Tatiana really didn’t like drinking much, she had to admit. The few times she’d had something to drink had been at Hogwarts events, and they left her feeling oddly uncreative, a feeling she had never liked much. But Kasper was drinking, and had offered her a cup, so who was she to turn it down? She should make the most of the night, after all – and in this instance, making the most of it meant accepting the drink and going along with it.
Taking a sip of her own, she shrugged a shoulder, hardly suppressing a wince at the burn of liquor in her mouth and down her throat. “I’ve never really drank much,” she admitted with a shy half-smile, ducking her head. “It stems writing most of the time, and I always ducked back to the dorm early instead of hanging around. It’s kinda nice, since I’m hanging around tonight, though. Maybe it’ll make the crowd less unnerving.”
Tilting her head slightly at his admission, Tatiana gave a small laugh, though her smile tinted sad at the mention of her best friend. “Julius, that’s right,” she returned with a small nod, shrugging a shoulder. “Usually I would go with him, if we even went at all, but… I dunno. I’m glad you came with me. I wasn’t sure if you’d say yes, I mean. Most people would just laugh. But this is nice. Different, definitely different, and I have no clue what people usually do at these since Julius and I usually just hang around and talk at them, but… nice.”
Kasper smiled at that admittance. He wasn’t used to people saying nice things, around him or about him, so he appreciated the conversation. “Well I’m glad you’re sticking around, now,” he offered, “I’d love to spend the rest of the night with you. You’re...interesting. Not many people are as creative with their writing as you are, I’ve seen some of what you’ve published in the paper, yeah?” This conversation was a start to the night, though he was completely awful with people and didn’t know how else to go about this.
“So,” he asked, “What made you end up choosing me out of everyone? I mean, I always thought you and Julius were a thing, from the way you two always hang around each other. Have you had a thing for me long and I just haven’t noticed? How’d you get up the nerve to ask?”
“I think you can get to know a lot about someone based on their Halloween costume. Or at least their interests… and then there’s the history behind it, which is really interesting.”
“I guess I can see your point...”
“Still, wouldn’t say it’s my favorite.”
“Halloween’s definitely my favourite holiday.”
“Really? Why?”
A Date to the Dance [Kasper & Tatiana]
Tatiana had never had a date to something like this. Not a real date, anyway, past going with Julius, and though she would qualify those as dates, she wasn’t certain he did. And the fact that this was a date she had not chosen for herself, but rather that the anonymous blackmailer had chosen for her, was even stranger. Why he had gone from making her injure other students via brooms to playing matchmaker, she had no idea, but she had to admit, it was unnerving at best.
She felt a little bit pretty that night, at least. With the ornate mask covering the worst of her acne, contacts in rather than her glasses, and carefully styled hair falling loose around her face, Kasper’s introductory compliment was almost true. Almost, at least; she still felt the self-conscious blush that rose when she smiled at him, wire-lined teeth flashing for a moment before she hid them away again.
“Hey. You look even better, wow. Dress robes do you justice,” she returned, keeping her smile small to cover the braces as best she could. “Sorry if you were waiting long, I had a little trouble with the hair…” She wound a bit around one finger before shaking her head and looking back up at him. “Let’s um. Let’s grab drinks, yeah?”
“No, it’s alright. I don’t mind.” He insisted. Part of him had thought that maybe Tatiana wouldn’t show up after all. That she had asked him as a joke and was watching someone, waiting for him to give up and leave and laughing all the while. But instead she had come and looked rather pretty in doing so, which was surprising. She wasn’t a generally pretty person, though he couldn’t say he was either.
“Drinks sound good.” he admitted, “Though I think most of them are spiked.” He shrugged before heading over to the table and picking up two cups, handing one to Tatiana. Tasting his drink, he nodded and replied, “Yeah, definitely spiked. Not that I really mind, i guess.” He hadn’t much experience with alcohol, but he doubted it would affect him too much. He knew how to keep control of himself, and how to stay out of trouble.
“I...don’t really know what to do at these kind of things,” Kasper admitted after a moment, “But it’s nice not being alone. I’m surprised you’re not going with that Photographer boy...Julius?” He knew Julius’s name, of course. He was just trying to make it sound more casual.
A Date to the Dance [Kasper & Tatiana]
Kasper hated the idea of masquerades in general. But he was attending this one, because he had a date. He had spent extra time dressing up for this party just because of the fact that he had a date. Tatiana Thicknesse. He had never been particularly interested in her, but she had gone out of her way to ask him of all people, and who was he to say no?
Standing awkwardly at the corner of the party, he waited until he saw Tatiana come into the party to approach her. “Hey,” he spoke, “You look lovely.” It was a compliment that he knew she would want to hear, regardless of how true it was. He himself didn’t look too bad, he was one of those boys that clean up nicely, but he was still his same, unrecognizable, non standing out self.
He ran a hand awkwardly through his hair as he waited for her response, glad that she couldn’t see the blush crossing his face right about now. He was awful at these types of things and never had a date before, no one had ever been particularly interested in him.
“That’s what I… wait, you said yes? Really?”
“Uh, yeah. Did you want me to say no?”
“I was just, um. I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go to formal with me? You don’t have to say yes just because I asked or anything, though, especially since you weren’t planning on going before. It’s totally okay.”
“Hmm...I’ll go with you. Why not, right?”
“Yeah. Yeah, Tatiana. I um. I was just wondering if you’re planning on going to the Masquerade at all? And if you’re going with anyone or not?”
“Uh, wasn’t really planning on going. Definitely don’t have a date. Why?”
Just Another Day [Open]
The recent gossip reveals had only made Kasper feel good about himself. He wanted desperately to be the center of attention, but was forced to keep that want hidden away. Instead, he fed off of other people’s gossip and success, as well as their ineveitable downfall. These reveals were so funny to him. He didn’t know who this X was, but he liked them well enough.
He knew he had to have an unpopular opinion on the matter, though. X had to be blackmailing more than just him, as these people’s secrets had been revealed to the world. He didn’t want that of his own secret, as it would put too much attention on him, more than he would ever allow himself, but it was funny watching other people squirm. Kasper had very few friends, and very little entertainment. This was about it for him.
Sitting in the Great Hall, the Ravenclaw let out a sigh as he dropped his pen onto the ground, not even bothering to reach for it. He didn’t want to work on his homework. He wanted to talk with someone, make conversation, become less bored. But very few people actually ended up talking to him. That was why, he looked up in surprise when he heard a voice.
“Only its leaves are usable in potions work, they cause hysteria and uncontrollable laughter. The latter is what’s caused with Alihotsy Draught, the former with Hysteria Solutions. When smoked, it creates a lightheaded giddiness, similar to the Muggle drug marijuana, minus the hunger that the Muggle drug sometimes causes. The rest of the body of the plant is sometimes used for antidepressant potions. And Glumbumble treacle is the antidote to its effects.”
“Thanks.” he muttered as he rushed to write this down, “Now would you like to write the paper for me or?”
“Hey, Kasper… Can I talk to you a minute, please? Just a minute and I’ll be out of your hair, I swear.”
“Uh, sure? Tatiana, right? What’s up?”
“Lord have mercy, do I have to wipe yer ass too? Notes are in the notebook, use ‘em.” Avery said with a deadpan expression, pulling out his transfiguration textbook.
Kasper gave the other boy a disgusted look before turning back to his own notebook. “I was just asking. No need to be such an ass.”
“I don’t know about that. All I want to do is help, really.”
“And I appreciate that sentiment.”
“Pushyyy.” Avery said with a deadpan tone and slid the notebook over to him.
This one was cute.
Kasper picked up the notebook and flipped it open, beginning to copy down what he saw. “You wanna help me with this or?”
