LISTEN UP KIDS HERE’S YOUR EDUCATION
This is gonna be long as hell
It has come to my attention that our marvelous leader Bang Chan is not being appreciated to the fullest. Now, this boy did not train for as long as he did to only be known for his English and his accent. He can rap, he can sing, he can produce. Not to mention that he’s an amazing leader and teacher who’s willing to go not only the extra mile but run a whole extra marathon to support Stray Kids. Honestly? Chan deserves so much more than he’s given credit for.
First off, let’s talk about his rapping. See, a lot of people don’t appreciate his rapping because they don’t hear it a lot. Chan has sacrificed his rapping in Stray Kids so that others can have more lines, but in 3RACHA? There’s no questioning how good he is. This is only one example of many displaying Chan’s rapping skills, not to mention that he probably WROTE the lyrics he’s rapping. Another good piece to touch on is Matryoshka, which is sort of legendary if you’re a Stay. It’s hard to put into words what his rapping is like, so please take the time to find out for yourselves.
Next up, Chan’s singing. Although Chan really likes rapping, he tends to be more of a vocalist in Stray Kids’ songs, and he has a really strong voice. Along with his vocal parts in Stray Kids’ songs, Chan also takes most of the vocal lines in 3RACHA. In Runner’s High, he’s able to use his voice in multiple different ways. In Insomnia, Chan is able to really capture the tone of the song in only two lines. Also, his live vocals are incredibly stable and unwavering. I’m not able to go through every instance of this boy’s immense vocal talent, but this should suffice for now.
Now, on top of rapping and singing, Chan also writes most of Stray Kids’ music. He’s a writer that really focuses on writing about things he wants to say to the world, rather than catchy things with no meaning. Take Insomnia, for one. Click that there link and just take a moment to look at the lyrics. A lot of what he writes about is focused on the immediate social and psychological issues that he and the rest of Stray Kids face every day, which a lot of other artists don’t go into. One song I’d like to touch on right now is 3RACHA’s Start Line. The song talks about how leaving the good memories from the past behind when they started working to debut was really only a graduation, or a starting line for the rest of their lives. Chan’s rap verse here is completely in English, and talks about his childhood and the people who inspired him. The song carries so much emotion and thought, and I’m so proud of Chan for putting them out there.
Going along writing music, Chan also produces. He produced a lot of 3RACHA’s songs, including (but not limited to) Broken Compass, Double Knot, and Hoodie Season. Production, I know from experience, isn’t as easy as it may seem. It’s really hard to find those specific sounds and melodies and countermelodies that fit the tone and feeling of the song, but Chan seems to have it down to a science.
The most unappreciated talent of Bang Chan is his dancing. Let’s take a second to appreciate this iconic choreography. Just watch Chan’s facial expressions throughout… Yeah. Not only is he able to absolutely nail the dance, he’s able to have fun while doing it, and gets the audience having fun along with him too. Even with choreographies that are from other things, he’s able to bring an element of himself into them. He always looks like he’s having fun, and even so, is able to focus on the dance and rarely ever makes mistakes.
Perhaps one of my favorite things about Chan is his love for his team. He’d do anything to support them, and has always cared more about them than himself. In relay dances, he never takes more than half a line’s worth of time so that other members can have more time. He’s also really protective of Felix, and would never ever leave him behind even for a minute. (If someone can add the clip of him staying while Felix ties his shoes that would be great I can’t find it) Despite acting like a little kid sometimes, Chan is really a great leader to Stray Kids, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
Bang Chan is an extremely talented individual, as well as an amazing person, and he deserves much more recognition for the things he does for Stray Kids. He’s a phenomenal rapper and vocalist, as well as being a fantastic dancer. Chan is an essential member of Stray Kids, and will continue to lead them higher and higher.
