I think the part that misses people is that when you can’t do something you have to settle for a workaround.

these people can’t draw in other adults. they don’t have the capacity to treat another adult in a way that makes a connected loving relationship possible. but it’s possible to completely avoid ever confronting this about yourself by finding someone with a limited experience who lacks the perspective to see what you’re missing—if they can’t see what you’re not capable of and can’t offer, it’s easier to hide it.

if they’re used to moldy food crawling with worms, your stale crusts won’t bother them. if they’ve been raised in a pigpen, your stink won’t bother them. if they’ve been beaten about the face and head every day their whole lives your occasional cuff to the ear won’t bother them. if they’ve never been treated with respect or decency, your disrespect and poor treatment won’t bother them.

their limited experience benefits you and your positive image of yourself. the less they know in general the more your shit looks like gold.
