monroeicals:
“hey now–that’s not the reason why i invited you over, kat.” monroe walks up close to her, tilting her head to the side as the other downs some of the vodka. “in all honesty…” she sighs, following her to the sofa and sits beside her, taking her free hand to hold, playing with her fingers before taking the drink from her once she was finished. the dj makes sure that the other catches the devilish smirk on her face as she takes a long swig of the alcohol once more. “i don’t know how to explain it. the thought of inviting you over just came to me this morning and thought, why not?” she says while shrugging at the other. “and to be frank, i don’t have my shit together.” she chuckles to herself. “i’m bored, this place is too fucking quiet–and my new bed just got here yesterday. seems pretty bland, and it would be surely be fucking better if it’s got you in it.”
Kat just raised her eyebrows silently as she drank from the bottle, not moving even when Monroe came closer, just intrigued despite herself to hear what her reasoning might be for asking her over. The way she played with her fingers was surprising but not unwelcome, this kind of touch hadn’t been afforded to the woman in a while, it made her mind start to wonder if Monroe wanted something more from Kat. The smirk on the other’s face made Kat do the same, still a little in the dark about the situation, but amused all the same. “It just came to you, interesting, I must have been playing on your mind, huh?” Glancing around the apartment she didn’t look back until the mention of her bed being better with Kat in it came up, making the brunette’s heart jolt. So this was a weird friendship booty call then? Well, who was she to complain. If there was one thing Kathryn’s life was missing right now it was physical touch, and it would be a lie to say she didn’t find Monroe very attractive. “It sounds like you invited me over here to entertain you a it, which I think I might be able to do.” She took the vodka bottle to swig out of it one more time before leaning forward so her face was incredibly close to the other’s. “You’ll just have to tell me what you had in mind.”

“Sounds like a scrumptious combo.” agreed Celine with a nod. Two of the best known meals fused into one? Nothing could go wrong with that. However, she was leaning more on the salt and carbs than dairy…For now at least. When the server reached her, she opted for fries and a BLT sandwich with a fried egg, as for her drink she opted for an iced tea in hopes of feeling refreshed. “Mmm, same.” The doctor then paused as her gaze softened slightly, as she understood where Kat was coming from. Being out of your comfort zone wasn’t the best feeling in the world, yet she couldn’t help but encourage the other woman for trying. “First of all, you definitely slayed it. I believe I caught a glimpse of you there, it was a shoulderless dress no? And second of all, you managed to stick through it till the end right? The way I see it, that counts for something rather than bailing it out right away.” She paused as a kind smile crept onto her lips and added, “Plus it’s over and done with. So you wouldn’t have to worry about wearing another dress till like the next formal event…Which hopefully isn’t anytime soon cause I’m sure you need a break from the last.” When Kat asked about her plans during the holidays, Celine shook her head and replied with, “Nothing eventful. It was my year to work most of the holiday shifts. During my downtime though I spent it with my grandparents and I did attend a few get-togethers, but nothing major.” She squinted slightly as she faced the windows and then immediately turned away, “Mmm, you’re smart for having those on you.”
Gesturing to herself silently as Celine ordered from the waitress she didn’t speak until she’d managed to swallow the large mouthful she’d shovelled into her mouth not long ago, wanting to make it known she had something to order too so she didn’t walk away. “Fries for me too, thanks.” Before finally letting her retreat, not with surprise since Kat was there more often than not so the servers knew her well. Turning to look at the other her eyebrows lifted in surprise, she hadn’t seen Celine there so she’d had no idea she’d been seen either. But the description of her dress proved otherwise and she just nodded. “Yeah, that’s right, shoulder less dress. But no, Kev and I ducked out half way through to go get pizza, then we came back for the auction. So I only really made it to what…two thirds of it? The food was too shit I needed something proper in my stomach.” Still she couldn’t help but laugh a little at the positive spin that wasp put on the situation, it was over and done with, so she was free of restrictive dresses for a while at least. And the spanks that came along with them which was a blessing because the amount of calories she was currently consuming would mean she’d have to buy a new bigger size with her none existent money. “True, I think we all need a fucking break, I can’t believe anyone actually enjoys them so much they don’t find them exhausting at the same time, it’s so much smiling.” The sunglasses provided a little relief thank god, she wondered for a second if she should offer them to Celine since she was the one facing the windows, but it was a thought quickly dismissed. They weren’t friends and that would just leave Kat with none and a worse headache. “You have enough hangovers in your life you start to never go anywhere without them.”
thatowensgirl:
Honestly, Peaches family had never technically been poor, but with four kids and ghost hunting parents, despite being scholars too, they didn’t live some luxurious life style, so she did understand the relief in the womans face when Peach told her the meal was on the house. She smiled in understanding “coming ‘round this time usually gets a free meal, I give a few away when I’m about to close up,” she explains, and mentions, so the customer knows that there are always free meals if she comes here. Peach wasn’t rich either, and she was saving up for a brick and motor shop, but she could help where she could. “One of our most popular dishes, I always keep some extra,” she tells her, and then hesitates “it’s pretty cold out here, huh?” she begins “you want a tea while you wait? Or a coffee, if that’s more your thing?”
Kathryn would love to fire back with how she didn’t need a free meal or handouts, but the sad truth was she was getting to the point where she possibly did. And even if there was a day or week when she wasn’t so hard up the same couldn’t always be said for her friend Kaiona who she made a mental note to tell as soon as she next saw her. The two girls needed to look out for each other, or at least Kat felt the weirdly maternal need to look out for the younger woman, even if it was in more of a sisterly fashion. “Good to know.” Was all she replied with a thin smile on her pale pinched face, glancing over her shoulder at the mention of the weather. She was right, it was bitterly cold. “Uh…” Was she offering to give her one for free or to sell her one? The issue was Kat now didn’t know where she stood. After a beat of hesitation she nodded, deciding that if it stopped her hands from getting frostbite then she could spare the couple of dollars for a cup of coffee. Maybe. “Yeah, I’ll take a coffee with creamer, thanks. Just like...the smallest one you have.”

“hey now–i just don’t have time to clean those shit up, i work nights and sleep mostly during the day.” monroe shoots kathryn a playful glare, shaking her head at the other. the only area in her place that she’s actually put attention to is her bedroom, with her little closet, bed and the corner where she does her mixes, though she’s still got a lot of records left that she has to put on the shelf, which she also has to set up one of these days. monroe stared at the bottle that she has in hand and uncapped it, before passing it to the older woman as she was closing the fridge. day-drinking’s something you cannot ever judge at this point, in fact, she needs a lot of it. “hair of the dog or some shit?” she shrugs, taking the bottle to have a swig of vodka herself after kat did. “i moved in last week, figured this is better than the shithole i was in, i needed more space with my collection building up, and my paycheck doesn’t disappoint me at all, so why not, right?”
“I’m not judging you for it, you’ve seen my place, it’s not like I have a leg to stand on.” The brunette grunted out a laugh as she took the now uncapped bottle from Monroe with a gleam in her eyes, exactly what she needed right now. Any alcohol she could get into her system without having to pay for it herself was a plus in the girl’s eyes. “Something like that.” She took a couple of swigs without coming up for air, only wincing at the end as she sucked oxygen back in, handing the bottle across one more. “Sounds nice, having a fucking pay check that doesn’t read like a horror story. Or any pay check at all actually, is that why you invited me here? To show off about how well you’ve got your shit together at the ripe young age of twenty five?” There was an edge of joking in the brunette’s tone as she wandered across to where the sofa was, cleaning herself a space to sit down cross legged on it once she’d kicked off her black boots.
theshanemartis:
…
the last person shane expected to walk through the door was kat. she imagined the older woman wanted to avoid this place like the plague after everything, and she wouldn’t even blame her. she liked kat, despite the age difference, they always got along and bonded over some of their less than professional life choices. those were the type of people she preferred to keep in her company, people who were messy and had issues. perfect people were boring. rolling her eyes playfully at kat, shane relaxed against the counter, “you caught me,” she said with a laugh, her voice dropping down an octave. leaning against counter, she nodded along as kat explained the situation. “i dunno if i’ve seen it but i’m gonna be honest, i don’t really pay attention to things. but better to find it before you get pulled over and end up in hand cuffs.” her last comment was in a flirting tone, a smirk on her lips as she said it. shane never could help herself. “only a couple more hours, it’s been dead and i’ve been sooo bored all day without you here.”
If there was one thing you could tell by Kat’s demeanour it was that she didn’t want to be here either, if she could have avoided it she would have, but her driving license was too important to just fling out the window. So she’d swallowed her pride and showed up at her former place of employment with a silent internal prayer that the manager wasn’t there. Seeing Shane behind the counter was the best possible outcome actually. “You’re good at the customer service bullshit, you sound like a totally different person, it’s creepy.” Wasting no time in heading behind the counter she manoeuvred her tiny body past the other to behind the curtain in the back portion of the shop, grinning her tiny grin. “Wouldn’t be the first time in week I’ve ended up in them, and not in the fun way, I’m a pro at this point.” The brunette scoffed, handcuffed more often on her wrists than bracelets and not just because she wasn’t really a jewellery person. Glancing sideways at Shane she caught the look in her eye, smirking with a raise of her eyebrows. “Well then you’re fucking lucky I’m here now then aren’t you? This day just got a hell of a lot better, obviously you’ll have to split the days pay check with me though.” She was only…half joking.
kainoa-kupaa:
@kathrynclery
Kainoa was exhausted, she had just gotten out of a 6 hour dance call and just wanted to curl up into a ball and sleep. But of course the new choreographer insisted walking everyone out after a long day and Gerald was already on the other side of town in the shop with a broken window. Not exactly good winter sleeping. Groaning she pulled out her cellphone, shot off a couple texts and trudged to the subway. She was half asleep all the way to Willow Creek, barely making it out at the correct stop. A few more blocks and she was at Kat’s door. Leaning against the doorjam she knocked loudly before shoving her hands back into her jacket pockets. “Kat? You in there?” she called out, hoping she hadn’t missed her friend or overstepped coming here without confirmation beforehand. Too exhausted to think of anything better to do she decided to just wait and see what the oncoming night brought. Hopefully some decent sleep on Kats couch, maybe some cocoa to warm up. Maybe something stronger.
Kat was there, it was rare that she wasn’t at the moment considering she had no job so she wasn’t out there, and she had no money so she could hardly go out to do anything interesting, her usual state was to just lay on her bed or sofa watching stupid videos until she fell asleep. Today she was half way through her third episode of cake boss when there was a knock at the door, making her sit up slightly to look in that direction with bleary eyes, blinking a couple times. The voice was familiar….why was it familiar? Okay so the weed brownie she’d eaten about half an hour ago wasn’t helping her work it out any faster, but before she got to the door it clicked. Kainoa reminded the thirty eight year old a lot of herself, not in age obviously, but in the way she lived her life and how she had very little financial stability to her name. Maybe this was why she always wanted to help her in any way she could, swinging the door open with a tired smile on her face. “Hey Kai, you alright?” There was no need for her to invite her in or offer up the couch because it was an open invitation, Kathryn had made that clear a while ago. Instead she just trudged back inside the apartment. “You want a drink?”
monroeicals:
“aight, sorry about the mess, but i’m tryna claim my half of the place already. roommate search is still on-going, but i guess the fault is on me. because the usual takers are these….disgusting boys, i think you know how i don’t mix well with those creatures.” monroe says as she welcomes the person into her home. there were still boxes scattered on the living room floor, though everything else, like the couch and the coffee table were now already set up. she nods at them, gesturing her visitor to come with her to the kitchen. “so, what i have so far is….rootbeer, orange juice, some water and….this one,” she shows the bottle of vodka to them. it may or may have not been one of those things she lifted a few days ago and completely forgot that she even did it in the first place. “i think we can make something we these–well, except the root beer. guess we can make some screwdriver cocktail and just drink the day away?” @crystalcitystarters
“No biggie, it’s just nice to see an apartment that’s more of a mess than mine, didn’t even know that was possible.” Kat muttered as she wandered around Monroe’s place looking with dull curiosity at the objects scattered around. You could tell a lot about a person from their clutter, which always made Kat wonder what people would be able to deduce about her from the empty snack wrappers and random books scattered around her own home. Turning around as drinks were listed she silently pointed to the vodka, nothing needing to be said because this was Kathryn Clary. She was hardly going to pick rootbeer. “I’m all game for drinking the day away, I drank the night away yesterday so might as well carry on with it. Pass it.” Gesturing for the bottle to be handed over to her, no cocktail needed, she would drink it neat. “So when did you move into this place? It’s nice.” Her own apartment wasn’t like this, nor was it going to be hers for much longer thanks to her financial situation, but the less said about that the better.
theshanemartis:
it was a pretty slow day at spine that record. shane preferred it that way; less people to irritate her. but it also made the day go by much slower, the hours seemed to drag on. she found herself checking her phone far too often to check the time, only to see ten minutes had passed. stocking was already done, she dusted random shelves that didn’t get much action, now she was sitting behind counter. she didn’t mind working at the shop, it was pretty easy and her music loving side enjoyed the customers who stopped to talk to her. at least it was better than some fast food gig or working in a strip mall folding clothes all day. the bell of the door chimed, signaling a customer walking in; shane perked up behind the counter, leaning on her elbows. “hey, let me know if you need help finding anything. we just got some new stuff in if you want to check it out,” she called out in her customer service voice with a half forced smile.
@crystalcitystarters
Kat hadn’t wanted to go back to Spin the Record but she had no choice, sadly her ID was something she couldn’t get through much longer without it and so her hand had been forced. Pushing into her old place of employment she had to admit it was a relief that Shane was the one behind the counter, at least she’d caught a break with that. Kat and Shane had always gotten along well thanks to how broken down the two of them were in their own ways, maybe not the best foundation for a friendship but there was nothing that could be done anymore. They were bonded too tightly. “Oh god, don’t give me that voice, I know it’s entirely bullshit Shane.” The brunette mumbled as she scuffled up to the counter looking exhausted and her face drawn, mainly because she’d been up all night smoking weed before falling asleep on her couch at five am under a blanket of empty chip packets. “I left my fucking ID here like an idiot, I doubt I’ll ever be carded again in my life but I don’t want to come up against any roadblocks at the bar later. You know the feeling. How much longer of your shift you got?”
celinexkim:
+
If her head wasn’t pounding, then perhaps she would have apologized for invading Kathryn’s personal bubble by taking the seat literally right next to her. It was a given that her presence threw the other off guard seeing as Kat spat out the contents of her mouth. However, Celine just sat there like a sick puppy trying to figure out what to eat as she stared helplessly at the menu. “Mash potato…Mash potato….Mac and cheese…” Her voice trailed off as she murmured incoherent words, trying to figure out her decision based on what the other was telling her. “Oh?” She glanced over at her plate and slowly nodded in understanding, “…Mmm, I see…” There was a lot to unpack here, since the last thing she wanted to do was feel the need to throw up last night’s contents. She needed something to fill her stomach asap. “Ouuu! Fries, yes…Okay…Can’t go wrong with that.” She immediately waved over the server and waited for them to arrive at her and Kat. In the meantime, Cel went straight to small talk as she asked, “How was your holiday? Did anything exciting then and for the New Years?”
“Put the Mac and cheese on top of the mashed potato…it’s like…the best.” Kathryn murmured as she shovelled another mouthful of her utterly sinful concoction into her mouth as if it hadn’t just come tumbling out seconds before. The woman was about to sit up properly to wave down a waitress but Celine beat her to it, so instead she just slumped over her food once again, letting out a small grunting noise. “Uh…nah not really. I went to that gala thing that was put on, which was a great excuse to put on a dress I didn’t like and wasn’t comfortable in, it was great. A real laugh riot.” The annoyed tone of her voice showed that was exactly the opposite of how she truly felt about the experience, but far be it from Kat to do anything without being grumpy about it. “What about you? Do anything fun for the holidays?” With that another mouthful was ladled into her mouth, chewing slowly in silence waiting to see if the other replied but not really caring either way. As long as she got the French fries she had been scoffing from Rosie’s Diner since she was a little girl. “God it’s fucking bright in here.” And with that she shoved her sunglasses back on.
thatowensgirl:
PEACHES FOOD TRUCK was this large, yellow monstrosity that she brought off of the internet and with the help of some friends, turned into her own little restaurant. She got to drive it around Crystal City and put smiles on peoples faces whenever she handed them one of her meals, be it a classic with a twist, or something brand new, flavors she hadn’t seen together before. This place was her heart outside of her body, with how much pride she had in it, although a brick and mortor store was somewhere in the end goal. She’s in New Haven today, and the item of the week is a fig jam, brie and proscuitto panini. She’s got a purple bandana wrapped around her head like you would a headband, keeping her hair out of her face as she pokes her head out of the little window. “What can I get ya, honey? Lucky you, you’re my last order before I close up, so it’s on the house, or well, the bus.” she asks, smile on her face the last word out of her mouth hit hard with her accent.
@crystalcitystarters
Kathryn didn’t have many passions in life anymore but she could appreciate good food when she tasted it, well…she could appreciate food she enjoyed when she tasted it. Peaches food truck was hard to miss considering the colour of the huge van, the only thing that would make it more noticeable was if it had an ice cream truck song blasting out of it every time it drove up, but it didn’t need it. “On the house? Fuck…okay cool, thanks. You didn’t have to do that but that’s really fucking helpful actually.” Kat mumbled in surprise, eyebrows raising as she pushed some hair off her face, glad she wasn’t going to have to pay since she couldn’t really afford it.
If she had paid for this today it would have come out of her rent money, and she’d already spent some of that on a breakfast sandwich the day before. Money management wasn’t her forte, as had been displayed when she bid and won the spa trip at the festival gala. Another thing she shouldn’t have done. No one in her life knew yet just how badly her finances were suffering since the loss of her job at the record store, but the only person she felt comfortable telling was Veronica and the two hadn’t had time to chat properly yet. “I’ll take a Mac and cheese. If you’ve still got some of that left, thanks.”

Veronica: Ew, no. Go to the Diner and ask for cheese fries, as much as you can carry. Break into my house and get expensive bourbon. Go to the pier and have a fucking bonfire. Burn our old yearbook and all our bullies' faces.
Veronica: I don't know but I do have a pretty wild imagination. ;)
Veronica: Aw, keep talking dirty to me, Kitty Kat and I'll jump in the car to drive back home right away.
Kathryn: FUCK. You're meant to be the oracle. Why do i bother being friends with you if you can't give me the inside track on his heads?
Kathryn: okay i like the idea of a pier bonfire....with cheese fries....and a milkshake. I'm telling them you told me i could have all the cheese fries i can carry by the way. So don't fuck me over on this one
Kathryn: D'aww, you'd like that wouldn't you? Sorry, you're the wrong cousin for me baby :P
