Karl Lagerfeld was an inspiring, prolific, provocative designer and the world will never see another like him. He’s among the reasons I fell in love with fashion as a child. Not because I knew his designs inside and out, but because he was a wild original. That fan! Those sunglasses! That ponytail! That voice! My childhood was pleasingly normal and as such I’m relatively well-adjusted (no comments, please!). But when I saw what was beyond my all-American hometown — eccentric geniuses like Lagerfeld and McQueen — I desperately wanted to be part of that. His discipline and relentless commitment to his work inspired me more than anything else. To read that such a prolific creator works “for the garbage can,” as he told Kate Finnigan at @telegraphfashion in 2013, was a revelation. I return to this quote again and again when I’m doubting myself. If the work isn’t going well, don’t give up — work through it. Eventually, something wonderful will emerge. My life these days is back to pleasingly normal, but I am better for my brief brushes with the world of people like Karl. With the loss of Lagerfeld, the world has lost a particular kind of shine. . . . . . #karllagerfeld #ripkarl #ripkarllagerfeld #karl #lagerfeld #choupette #choupettelagerfeld #fashion #chanel #fendi https://www.instagram.com/p/BuE5InwgVF2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5ez89s0y9sgc
