Sweet Reunion | Kathy & Maya

The Mistral Guild center. What an amazing place, right in the middle of the ocean, no less! Maya stared at the glossy, colorful shops in awe. If someone just covered her eyes and brought her here, she wouldn’t imagine for a second that just beneath them were the rolling waves of the sea. It seemed more like a shopping mall than a guild! Of course, as with any place with shops and businesses, Maya determined its quality by one thing and one thing only.

The food. And, seeing as she’d be meeting her friend here, that just meant that Maya had the treat of buying and trying double.

A cone of strawberry ice cream in one hand and a cone of coconut ice cream in the other, Maya kept her eyes peeled for the long, blonde hair of Kathy. She had always been an easy person to spot in a crowd. Even without her stunning beauty, Kathy just had… presence. She could wield the attention and hearts of several people more easily than most could wield just one conversation. Heck, the only thing Maya could “wield” on most days was a fork and a cup of instant noodles! Maybe Kathy could give her some tips…

“Oh, Kathy!” Maya called out when she finally saw her. Bounding up to her friend with the coconut ice cream outstretched, Maya offered a grin and hug. Mmm… Kathy always did smell like the sea and sun.

“How are you? Are you hungry? I got some ice cream as a snack!”

Kathy has gotten news that an old friend had appeared on the islands, one from the town she used to live in. A small, impassioned, foodie who usually brought a smile to everyone’s face.

Kathy was somewhat worried as the rumors of her being the pirate queen might have made her old friend.... second guess a possible reunion? While the public couldn’t confirm these rumors, she did care about what her old friends thought if they did hear them. How much would Kathy have to lie? Or perhaps Maya wouldn’t care and would play it off like the rest of the public as a publicity stunt to make Levanter a little more interesting.

Over all both were true, but she could never admit that to someone she cherished in some way. None the less Kathy prepped an afternoon aboard the floating city for the two of them and Maya had agreed. She made sure that the best restaurants knew they’d be coming and paid in advance.

But not to her surprise she saw Maya at the food court with two hands full of ice cream. Kathy smiled at her friend and waved at her. Seeing her bound up with the ice cream outstretched out she took the cone, before scooping Maya up in a hug laughing a bit.

“Well don’t get too full on yer snacks. I got some good grub planned out fer ya today.” Kathy assured, breaking their hug. “How the hell have ya been? It’s been ages!”

But that was more or less the same thing for her.

“Julia? Yer as pretty as yer name suggests.” Kathy replied, both genuinely complimenting and flirting with the woman and giving her the perfect cover for snooping around.

“Good weather, good drinks and grub, seemin’ly great company. How can a gal complain ya know?” Kathy asked as she took a sip of her drink.

“Especially out on sea. It gets nippy. I love the sea but when it gets that cold I got ta pull back on ta land. There’s no way I can properly stay out there long term with that kinda weather.”

“Hey now. It’s about Ben’ healthy. Boy’s growing. But if he wants a glass or two I won’t stop ‘im. Can’t let him get too crazy.” Kathy replied nodding gently. Of course she’d let him drink, but something in Kathy made her just a little protective over the young man. He was innocent in her eyes, and she kind of wanted him to stay innocent.

“Yeah but I don’t got much wine. I only got the hard shit.” Kathy replied. She bummed a bit. “But if ya find a good bottle that’s too expensive fer ya I’ll treat ya. Late holiday bonus.”

Next AC we predict the Mistral Guild will become a “Safe” investment as there has been continuous growth with the organization!

“Let me tell ya Danny. If there’s a bear in front of ya, it expects ya ta run. But if ya charge at it and intimidate it, it whimpers away. Well… sometimes. Definitely don’t try it at home.” Kathy replied looking towards the screen for a moment before returning Danny’s gaze.

“Long story short, if yer enemy plans on ya running’, surprise ‘em by runnin’ at them and punchin’ their face in. That’s the true element of surprise.” Kathy confidently instructed.

“Splurge on yerself. Somethin’ ta make ya happy. Or somethin’ ta work on.” Kathy replied patting the man’s back. “And good on ya. Knew yer stuff would sell. It means yer treatin’ the crew ta a drink right?”

She laughed a bit, obviously pulling his leg.

“But yeah, I’m havin’ fun. You?”

And there Kathy was, staring off in a random direction again. Why did she do that, anyways? It was weird.

“I’ll keep that in mind,” he replied flatly. Honestly, he was pretty sure that only Kathy could pull off a dumb move like that. If there was some sort of giant opponent with- ah, let’s say, six swords, or something crazy like that- He definitely couldn’t imagine charging it head-on. That sounded like something stupid, that would never work.

As Kathy pat his bat, he glanced away for a moment. “Well… There is something I’m thinking of buying, but… Well, we’ll see.” He felt a little awkward bringing the idea up. He wasn’t sure what she’d think of it, or what he wanted her to think of it. And even if he told her his plans at this point, he wasn’t going to tell her the other dumb idea that kept worming its way into his head with it. 

He already had three jobs, anyways. If he wanted another, he’d have to quit one.

“Oh, yeah, definitely. How about I take us out on February 30th?” he sarcastically replied. “Speaking of, when was the last time you took the crew out for drinks?”

“No shit? Treat yerself Danny. If ya need help feel free ta ask, but it’s always better earned on yer own. Even if some rich ass hole needs ta lose it.” Kathy confirmed, giving the man a mini-talk on the merits of hard work, dedication, and stealing what’s rightfully someone’s at some point in time.

“I mean ta be fair I’m funding everythin’ on the ship.” She replied putting together a weak defense. “But if we’re talkin’ Fritz ya know we’ll need ta take him somewhere he can get apple juice.”

Kathy said not really knowing exactly the age Fritz was. He always felt so young, but he could have been older.

“Yer goin’ ya want orange juice right?” She teased.

Kathy walked out of the indoor Guild Center and began to make her way off the Notos. She always loves how big the island felt, and slowly she was making preparations to expand it quite a bit. But perhaps in the most novel of ways. As she thought about the logistics of how she’d obtain so many Blue and Green cores she had accidentally bumped into someone on the gangplank between the cruise ships and the yachts.

“Sorry ‘bout that wasn’…” Kathy’s voice was cut off when she saw the man in front of her. Technically, this man funded the entire island, or at least most of it. She didn’t consider it a priority to steal from anyone like that any more since she did have a lot of success now, but still she was thankful to him for having such lax security in his hotel.

“MAXY!” She called with a huge grin. She went up and gave the man a warm hug.

“How the hell… no where the hell have ya been ya big hunk. Just gone off and left!” Kathy replied giving him a final squeeze before letting go.

[♫] — Max chuckles, wrapping his arms around her in reciprocation. In the time he knew her, Kathy had proven to be a rather fun person to be around, and her good cheer was infectious. Because of it, he always felt his own mood lift whenever he was with her.

“Places,” He responds mysteriously, with an equally vague smile. “Just traveling about, meeting people, doing work… but Gods, does it feel good to be back home.” He laughs, “I see you’ve been doing rather well for yourself too, hm? A man-made island! Wherever did you get the funds for this?”

“Oh and there ya go tryin’ ta be all mysterious and what not. Alright I’ll let ya keep yer secrets.” Kathy have the man a gentle nudge in the side and smiled before outing her palm on her waist in a casual pose.

“What ya don’t remember? Remember that bust of yers I found? When I returned it ya gave me some money. I used that and some horribly worded coupons ta get the base started. And trust me Maxy there’s a hell of a lot more comin’ ta here.” Kathy assured with a proud smile.

“Technically yer an investor here. Buuuuut only on technicality. I got yer fancy bust and ya gave me a reward. Ya get no stocks yet buster.” Kathy teased poking his bust... well chest... playfully.

“Ya want a tour?”

Careful! That could have cost an Arm and a Leg! || Kathy and Jake

Kathy had spent the night back on her ship, drawing up plans for the boat island Jake had mentioned. Sure it didn’t exist yet, but still she needed filler for the next few hours. Danny was somewhere and so was Fritz. Goddess knows the trouble Dan was in. She smiled thinking of the trio. Then she went right to sleep.

It wasn’t too long before she woke up and began to fix up some more Golem parts. This contraption she put in her wrist, just about ready for the sword she gave him. She went up to the blacksmiths store and gave a wave as she walked in.

“Yer one hell of a quick worker.” Kathy complimented, walking up to the counter and picking up the sword. She ran a piece of paper along the edge to see it beautifully and smoothly cut.

“And ya do fine work. Alright, how much fer the the sharpenin’?”

[ ⚔ ] — Outwardly, Jake didn’t seem so fazed by the compliment, due to the lack of change in his expression. But there was no denying the swell of pride he felt at the woman’s words, the half-elf glad to see some appreciation for his hard work.

“That’ll be 1,000G.” He responds, rubbing the crick in his neck. “And, uh… thanks.” A little belated, but better sometime than never, right? That’s what Meg always said, anyway.

“Just one k? Hell got a good deal.” Kathy replied handing over the money. She looked at the sword and leveraged it on the counter for a second, before moving the space between the blade and the hilt to the corner.

“Now don’t ya freak on me.” Kathy replied summoning the shield on her arm to prevent metal splinters from flying everywhere. She pushed and everyone hear a large metallic rip. She took the sword blade a whistled. It was a clean cut. These powers really came in handy. She slapped the sword on her right wrist and soon what seemed to be Golem like clay began absorbing it into her arm.

“Perfect.” Kathy replied, stretching and retracting the shield.

“Oh take the handle. Don’t need it anymore. Tell me when yer comin’ fer a visit. I hear one hell of a shipwright will be movin’ in the island too. Maybe you two can do some fine work together.” She offered before waving her hand as she began to leave.

Combat Training || Kathy and Kasumi

Kathy had posted a few posters around the area, wanting to find a good self defense teacher for the upcoming class in March. After all, Kathy was very…. advanced and she alone wouldn’t be able to teach a lot of the basics. She was only able to keep up with Danny because she taught him for a long time. 

Fritz had to be taught by Danny, but if she could Kathy would give pointers the best she could. And try not to make things worse. But Fritz was a defensive master and she could see that in him. Either way, the poster read:

“Looking for teacher for a Women’s Self Defense class to be led in March. Women are preferred as it’s a Women’s Self Defense class, thought knowledgeable men are encouraged to apply as well! Pay will be 5,000G!

Please meet me at Levanter’s Guild Center. Just ask for Kathy!”

She made sure to post these posters through Arcadia and Leuda.

✒Kasumi was by no means looking for a new job seeing as she thought of her students as a full time job, but a particular flyer caught her eye. A class for women’s self-defense…As a firm believer of women learning to defend themselves, this immediately piqued her interest. If this was just a temporary position, then maybe it would be possible. It really depended when.

With this in mind, Kasumi set out to Levanter’s Guild Center to inquire for details. Upon arrival, she requested Kathy just as the poster had instructed. She was hopeful this would work out. Teaching was her forte, but she had never taught self-defense before. Or anything non-academic for that matter.

Kathy sighed. She looked down at her papers seeing the Fohnding Celebration was a month long event that tied up a lot of the Island’s resources, people, and time. She had no choice but to push the event back a month. A bit exasperated she sighed. Then a receptionist walked in and told Kathy someone was looking for her. She nodded and began walking out.

It wasn’t long before Kathy saw the stoic, but frankly beautiful woman hanging out in the guild center. She wasn’t sure they had met before, so she had no idea why she was here. She, infact, forgot she sent out the flyer at all. It had been a while since she posted them after all. But she was still keen on making the event happen.

“Heya there. Hear yer lookin’ fer me. Names Kathy. How can I help ya?” She asked offering her hand.
