Carefully and lovingly handcrafted art dolls. They're between 10-16cm tall with a wire skeleton which makes them poseable. I handsew the clothes myself and I'm able to use up scrap fabrics and waste threads, among other items in my stash, so they're contributing to waste reduction too!

My mystery art doll commissions is an opportunity for you to get your very own made especially for you, while allowing me to stay creative and use the materials I have on hand in my stash.

I combine my various craft interests to make these, and I have fun with giving them names and personalities as well. Making these brings me a lot of joy to make, and I hope they'll bring joy to whoever they end up with as well!

You know when you get super behind on sharing projects on instagram? Yes.... I'm a few months behind. As in I finished this back in June last year 😂 But here she is! In all her glory. Partly finished due to some elements needed more time and equipment I didn't have. So those will get done eventually. I'm sooo so happy with how this came out. It's not perfect, but it is glorious and wearing it makes me so happy. (Apologies for the dirty mirror, but haven't had a chance to get new and better pictures yet.) So, let’s get to it!

The first thing I had to do was fit the bodice to myself, challenging on your own, but I managed and ended up with a decently fitting bodice.

After fitting.

I then proceeded to place the last two eyelets on the rig (the pieces of the bodice that laces together). Since I didn’t have an eyelet machine like we do at uni, I did these by hand, and I did some stitches…

…to those who patiently work hard to achieve them. I’m finally on my 2nd year of my degree and though it’s been ups and downs, I’m braving through and giving it my best.

And here's the final result! The finished, half Victorian bodice. Entirely handsewn and decorations made by myself from scraps and stuff from my hoarded stash. I braided some sewing thread to make the braided chain that's sewn in the middle along the black frill, and I did the same with black crochet thread to make the chain for the sleeve. Both things needed just a little bit of something extra to tie it all together, and those did the job. A black cotton lace trim is gathered and sewn along the sleeve edge to soften it up. On the flowers I used a mix of new beads I have in my jewellery stash as well as some old ones from an old necklace I dissembled at some point. This is the second project that necklace is getting new life on ☺. Handmaking decorations is always fun, and here are some of the elements in progress. I'll share how it all came together tomorrow 😌 can't wait! Made frills and flowers using the leftover fabrics, pinking shears and a lot of fray check. Making frills and some more frills, and layering the frills!

I love decorating, so this is one of the more exciting steps. Making the little details! And thankfully, I’m a hoarder, so if anyone ever dare call me out on hoarding I will smack them with this 😝

Opted for bias binding the neckline and then I played around with some lace scraps I had lying around. (No one can ever tell me again that hoarding is not useful!)

We’re making a bertha for our half bodices, and for those who don’t know what that is, it’s the decorative piece adorning the neckline on the bodice. Some are permanently attached, some are removable. So you can have a stash of different berthas and swap out completely changing the look of the bodice. Rather clever!

I want mine to be in black lace, I need to work the black sleeve into the bodice so it doesn’t look odd and out of place 😝

Last two boning channels in petersham in, shoulder seam done, piped the armhole and the bottom edge, then prick stitched the arm to the armhole in the ditch along the piping.

So exciting to see it all coming together! And I’m very happy with how the piping looks when done by hand… I may end up doing all future piping by hand.
