Smoke Up!
Check out my new work for Julep blog! 5 min smoky eyes for everyone!
Halloween Beauty: Get The Look
Julep, Temptu and braids
I was fortunate to work with an amazing client for past several month, Julep Beauty Inc., a Seattle based cosmetic company.
Last month I received their new products and when I tried their blushes it clicked in my head: “I know this smell, so familiar”. The scent is so close to Temptu Air Pod products, so it made me think about creating a look using Temptu Air Pods for a flawless airbrushed canvas and Julep products for eyes and lips.
Big thanks to my friend and SMG model Lily for coming in today and letting me play with braids.
I hope you love the result as much as I do!
Feel free to ask if you have any questions:)

Eyeshadow 101: From Smoky to Smoldering (Plus Pro Tips!)
Val Garland school of makeup
I was accepted into the Val Garland School of Makeup, and our first creative project was all about thought process; find an inspiration and tell the story through makeup. Here is my journey and final result.
Julep Maven
I had a blast working with a great client Julep Beauty Inc. couple weeks ago. This company is well known for its nail polishes, and started to develop cosmetic products about a year ago. I’ve never tried Julep cosmetics before and was very excited to see what they are up to at the photo shoot. I had a chance to see and swatch most of their makeup products on set and I was pleasantly surprised as a professional makeup artist about quality and excellent color choices!
Last week I got cosmetics perks from Julep (thank you Julep, you are one of the best clients!) and now able to show you day/evening looks you could easily create even without brushes!
For the day look I simply used eye pencil to define my lash line, applied glow powder to my lids and upper cheek bones, I used mix of pink and peach lipsticks as a blush, generously applied mascara on top and bottom lashes and my fave - nude lipstick, such a great nude color for me, great job Julep!
Transformation to the evening look took 2 min: I applied and smudged eye pencil to create a base for eye shadows and packed eye shadow color on top blending the edges. Mixed pink and peach lipsticks, applied as a stain and add rose-brown lip gloss on top.
For both looks I used just my fingers for makeup application: easy fast and fun!
And of course don’t forget about nail, Julep are masters of nail polishes, they have the best colors!
So give it a try, Julep products are worth it!

Flower Bomb. Makeup for SS 2015
Spring is almost in the city and it`s time to go out of hibernation.
Dig in your makeup drawers to find your favorite bronzer and orange lipstick that was so popular last year. But if you`re in a mood for beauty shopping and seeking for new makeup ideas here is a food for you: pink and tangerine colors. Don't be afraid to try pink eyeshadow or orange mascara this season. With a right application it can give you fresh and playful look.
I decided to do airbrush makeup this time. And here is my before pic.
Big thanks to Temptu Pro for supplying me with great airbrush products.
I used Becca shimmering skin perfecter primer, Airpod foundation #3 and #1, SB contour color #085, AirPod Blush in Pink and Champagne Highlighter. I also airbrushed my eyebrows using Temptu brow stencils and mixing Blond and Rich Brown brow colors. For my eyes I used Temptu SB color in beige and mixed red and yellow to get that tangerine for the inner part of my eyes. For the outer corner I used pink and purple and dark brown along my lash line. I mixed clear brow gel with purple pigment to get purple mascara and applied blush color on my lips.
Here the tutti-frutty result. Enjoy!

Holiday Makeup
It's December already. Winter is here, streets are twinkling with Christmas lights, some places have seen first snow, and the spirit of celebration is in the air. We all want a little bit of beauty magic when it comes to winter holidays. I`m sure you already have your favorite primer, foundation (the only one way to choose it is to try as much different brands and formats as you can), concealer, powder and blush. For colder season I choose illuminating primer (helps to add visual moisture and glow) rich foundation, cream blush and loose powder.
I used Becca shimmering skin perfector primer, Face atelier foundation, Mac Pro longwear concealer, Makeup for Ever HD cream blush and Hourglass ambient lighting powder in dim light.
And here is my fresh no makeup makeup face:
Winter holiday makeup from season to season has one permanent trend: if you decided to make an accent on your lips choose dark colors (leave bright oranges and juicy pinks for summer). Remember to go lighter with eyes if you use bold lip color. There are many options for eye makeup: use lighter colors like soft gray, white-beige, white-salmon, white-yellow all over your lid and add a touch of taupe to shape the eye. The main rule to remember when you use light eyeshadows is to create a base. Working with dark brown or black color along your lash line helps to create expressive look and not let your eyes be visually smaller.
Using beige or white pencil on lower water line also opens your eyes and makes them bigger. Intensive mascara and even natural false eyelashes are must for this look.
Don`t forget about eyebrows. Now days eyebrows look a little bit more straight, full and even bushy, clean up the line under eyebrows but leave it disheveled on top.
Lipstick`s shades and application techniques changes from year to year and this season you may choose dark berry colors over vine and go with true red over plums. It`s not necessary to buy new lipstick if you still have your favorite red but want something darker and edgy: mix your red lipstick with black and/or brown eye pencil, play with proportions to get the desired shade. Gloss on top is optional. Give your hair a little bit of love and you`re ready for a great celebration!
For those who doesn't feel comfortable wearing bold lips or would like to accentuate eyes there is a very simple decision: elevate very well known smoky eyes! Just add a little bit of charm with deep cobalt - one of the most popular colors this season or emerald green/violet/classic holiday gold. Keep your lips matte and neutral, add black pencil to your waterline for deeper effect (remember about your eye shape, not every person needs black pencil on water line, sometimes it`s better to keep beige color). You could do very simple high hair bun and wear casual yet edgy clothes that will dilute intensive makeup or go all the way to elegant updo and silk dress.
Hope this post will be the source of inspiration for you this Holiday season.
Happy Holidays!
Let`s talk about brows
One of the most powerful parts of our face is our eyebrows. Powerful in terms of being able to change expression, visual appearance, personal style and point the period of time person lives at. There are so many different opinions about perfect brows, and as at any art there is no right one or wrong one. My feel of taste goes towards natural, quite thick, not overdone, but nicely groomed eyebrows. Until I`m trying to create era makeup, or draw a character on the face I would prefer to follow natural eyebrow shape of my client making it cleaner and keeping in mind all face features (size of the nose, eyes, hair style, etc). There is a variety of different tools you can use to groom your eyebrows: brush, tweezers and scissors are my go to tools, but waxing and threading might be a better option for some situations.
I have 4 different types of eyebrow painting tools in my professional kit: powders (right color of eyeshadow works as well), pencils, creams, gels.
If you`re lucky and have very full and nicely groomed eyebrows then you might just use tinted brow gel to add a touch of color and keep eyebrow hairs nicely styled during the day. For soft colored eyebrows I would choose powder and angled brush. My trick is to damp the brush so I can really mimic hair's shadows and not just draw solid eyebrow, but try to create an illusion of hairs.
For every day makeup for myself I chose pencil, just because it`s a bit easier and faster.
Here is before picture (oh, yes, and I got new hair cut :)
So as you can see my eyebrows much lighter than my hair and I need to use pencil very close in color to my hair, that way it will look more natural and harmoniously.
Close up to see what we have to work with: definitely need to create nice eyebrow tail, fill out the gaps in between hairs and overall give the eyebrow more pronounced look.
Here is the result of creating soft everyday eyebrows (that don`t look made up) using pencil and clear brow gel to bring hair texture back.
Sometimes the event or makeup over all dictate us to have stronger, long lasting, perfectly shaped eyebrows. For this purpose I would use eyebrow creams, pomades with angled brush and for precise finish would go with concealer under and above brows using flat brush.
Here is the pic in progress:
Then just blend the concealer part and you got a bit more made up and stronger brows.
Let`s add some fall lip color using my new treasure: tinted lip gloss in wine-berry (not sticky and greasy, feels and looks like a stain)
And here is the result:
Oh yes, and remember: eyebrows are not twins, they are sisters, so don`t go too crazy trying to make then look absolutely even:) Have fun and experiment with different tools ;)
Intro to Temptu airbrush makeup
This month I was fortunate to be featured on Temptu Pro web site as a makeup artist http://temptu.com/pro/. So I decided it`s a good time to tell you a little bit about airbrush makeup; some people have never heard about this type of makeup application.
I have been using Temptu airbrush products since last spring and absolutely love everything about it! (just want to let you know that my post is not a sponsored ad, it`s my own opinion based on my professional experience)
First of all let`s see what`s the difference between airbrush makeup application and regular one. Airbrush is a tool for makeup application: there are compressor, air brush (air gun) and special airbrush products (foundations, blushes, contour colors, highlighters, etc) which are very liquidy and were created specifically to go through tiny airbrush nozzles, but yes you can apply airbrush products with your fingers or regular brushes and no, you can not use your regular foundation through air brush.
Temptu has two different airbrushes: first one (on the right side of the pic.) is a regular air brush (allows to mix colors and require measurment); second one is Air Pod (on the left side of the pic.) – you don`t need to clean it, don`t need to measure the product, but can`t mix the colors, only can layer them. The last one seems easier for home non professional usage.
Using airbrush you can apply not only your foundation, but also contour colors, blush, highlighter, even your eyeshadows, eyeliner and work on eyebrows. The main difference in the result that airbrush gives you is a signature yummy glow, thinnest layer with the best coverage, précised work, seamless blending of colors (when you correctly apply foundation, contour, blush and highlighter with airbrush, it looks amazing!).
It`s not very simple to airbrush yourself especially for the first time, so I would recommend to go to the salon or professional makeup artist.
Are you ready to proceed to the actual makeup application? Here is my before pic:)
I started with using Air Pod foundation in #004 and applied it all over my face in circular motions (be careful with the hair line, especially if you have dark hair, otherwise you will end up looking 20 years older woman with gray hair:)), then I took darker color of foundation #006 and went over the first layer skipping the front part of my face and creating visual volume (we don`t want flat face). To contour my cheeks and nose I used regular air gun with #085 contour color – my absolute favorite! Don`t forget about blush: I switched to Air Pod and used blush in #Peony Pink and here is the result (you can see that my eyebrows, lashes and lips are dusted with foundation which doesn`t make it look prettier than before pic, but don`t be afraid and keep going with the rest of the makeup).
Now simple steps – filling eyebrows (pencil, powder, gel – what ever you prefer), I decided to pick girly, soft and romantic rosy-violet colors for my eyes and of course mascara – dark lashed always make your eyes pop. For lips I applied the same blush color using AirPod. And here I am being a girl :)
Summer is not over or how to wear orange lips
I`m back to my makeup blog (finally had a day off to beautify myself). I haven`t even noticed how quick this summer goes: it`s already Aug! But don`t worry, you still have time for summer bright fresh and colorful makeup.
One of the summer makeup trends is orange lips: it might be soft tangerine lip stain, or creamy carrot lipstick or in my case it's matte opaque neon orange Lipmix by Mac Pro. This product is creamy in consistency and super easy to apply but then it dries to the gorgeous matte finish. And you can mix it with other colors to create your own perfect shade of orange.
When it goes to the bright orange lips it`s always a question: how the rest of the makeup should look? Classical pair for summer orange lips is sunny bronzed face with a touch of neutral colors on the eyes. If you chose for yourself a lip stain then you can go a little bit more brave on the cheeks or eyes adding, for example, blue eyeliner (choosing the right shade of blue is very important).
So I started from perfecting my face: all steps are the same as here http://katyagudaeva.tumblr.com/post/92561241718/makeup-step-by-step-or-how-to-get-that-polished-look except that I used another foundation this time - koh gen do maifanshi foundation.
And here is the result: primer, foundation, concealer, finishing powder and sculpting powder:
Summer supposed to be sunny and warm which means that makeup should be sweat and water proof if you want to avoid multiple touch ups during the day. That`s why for my eyebrows I chose Makeup for ever Aqua brow in shade 25.
Eye makeup can be fast and simple with my new obsession: makeup for ever aqua matic. They are super easy to apply and blend and they are waterproof!
And of course we need waterproof mascara. Just want to remind you as all waterproof products mascara can dry your lashes, so be careful using it on everyday basis. For me it`s more of a special occasion product.
And final step - orange Lipmix:
Oh, I totally forgot, somewhere in between there was a blush application :) just a tiny bit to give me some healthiness.
Soft waves for my hair and I`m ready to spent a summer day near the waterfront sipping mojito

Makeup step by step or how to get that polished look and a little bit of eyeliner
So many people were asking if I have a blog or youtube channel or something else where they can see, read, listen, learn and get inspired. Well, my answer always was very simple: No, I don`t, I post photos on instagram with comments and cross link them to my tumblr, facebook, etc. But this summer I decided: why not, let`s give it a try, anyway I do makeup for myself just for fun, to try new products or new techniques and I love sharing my tips and tricks, so from now on every day when I`m not working on set or with a client (I think ones a week maybe) I`ll write a short or maybe long :) post about makeup or makeup products or who knows about what else I will want to talk :)
Ready Steady Go! I usually don`t wear a lot of makeup and look not very different from THIS (no makeup pics)
Recently I found a real gem to create nice and healthy glow on my skin - Becca shimmering skin perfector
I apply it all over my face, but would not recommend this step for acne skin or very uneven skin. Here is the result, even before foundation skin looks fresh
Next step foundation Koh Gen Do Aqua
I love it for smooth application, light to medium coverage, no paraben, fragrance, mineral oil and all that crap that cheap cosmetic products have
Then of course concealer (Mac Pro Longwear) and corrector (Laura Mercier) if needed
Here it is - flawless canvas, and I`m ready to start paint my face ;)
Let`s give me some cheeks and give away a tiny bit of my nose by using Kevin Aucoin sculpting powder
Now I need to fake good blood circulation
Anastasia is my friend when I need some brow job get done :))
Then all that eye magic goes with primer, eyeshadows, black eyeliner by LimeCrime and my LOVE Fake it eyelashes by Jordan Liberty
And voila - final look :)
I wish it was Friday night and I can go out with my face ;) But it was Tue morning so I just took all that beauty off.
As a professional makeup artist I always was interested in makeup history, read a lot of books, articles, learn about makeup style from old movies and recently became passionate about retro/vintage cosmetic items.
Seeing all those first cosmetics products on the pictures: famous Maybelline mascara; tiny compacts with lipsticks, blush and powder inside; smart inventions like lipstick hidden into the brush handle made my desire to see them, touch them so great that I decided to have my own retro/vintage makeup collection.
Here are a couple gems I found today passing vintage store by accident:
Mouson pink powder probably was made in Frankfurt to be sold in Russia: label at the store was saying it`s circa 1950, but it`s not for sure, probably it was produced in 1920-1925 because it still has old Russian language writing on the bottom which was changed officially by the government in 1917th, newspapers, book printing companies and manufactures changed their writings completely a little bit later.
My second treasure is Stratton mirror rouge holder. I wish I could also find a lipstick from that period. This item is probably from 1960-1970ss and is not very rare one, but the idea of having a lipstick holder with such a cute and handy mirror is amazing and for me is more valuable than just a very rare simple item.
