goodbye to a world made me think of them
One thing that I think sometimes flies under the radar is that Steven Universe somehow managed to create a show in which Rose chose Greg over Pearl and the entire community, which usually scorns the “girl falls in love with boy despite having a clearly better love interest in another female character with whom she has better chemistry” trope… accepted this.
Why? Because unlike all those other male characters that are half baked Ken dolls with a personality the depth of a teaspoon… Greg is actually a good fucking person and anyone who watches the show can follow the plot development of Rose falling in love with him and understand why she did.
For all the screaming that I sometimes see about the LGBTQ community “demanding too much” and “turning everything gay”, this proves the opposite point - it’s not about whether or not it’s gay or not. Rose/Greg is a straight (ish) relationship and people who have endlessly expressed their frustration about “straight writing” accept it - because the problem isn’t about there being a straight couple. It’s when a straight couple is only a lazy, poorly developed shadow of a realistic, healthy relationship between two people who are legitimately good for each other regardless of gender.
