I am looking to surrender a cat. Do you have any information for me?
Try rehoming the cat yourself first! During the summer months shelters are full of cats due to kitten season. Rehoming the cat yourself guarantees that it goes to a good loving home rather than being stuck in the sheltering system for an unpredictable about of time.

I apologize for the large unannounced hiatus this blog has taken.
I'll totally explain why, I started this blog in 2012 a few months after I started volunteering at the Pet Project as a way to help network animals, and setting up a queue helped a lot, I didn't always keep up with it all the time. But since last June I've been formally working and volunteering with another Kansas City rescue, Dogs by Debin, which has taken up a lot of my time and is closer so I have not been volunteering at KCPP since.Â
Now KCPP is a great shelter and they help a lot of animals every day! Heck if you follow them on facebook, you can see how they're expanding. But this blog is very most likely not going to be updated and probably eventually deleted.
Sorry if that bums anyone out. I will be seeing if I can start a blog for Dogs by Debin, we have quite a few less animals then KCPP does so it will be updated more.

Tadas is a sweet seven month old kitten. He is one of the most intelligent and well behaved cats that I have ever met, and everyone falls in love with him the moment they meet him. He loves playing fetch (self-taught), wrestling with his brother, and cuddling with his owners at bed time. Two months ago Tadas was diagnosed with Advanced Patellar Luxation- a disorder in which his knee-cap is not held in place properly. This disorder causes significant pain and lameness, and his case is so advanced (stage 4/4) that surgery is his only option for a normal and pain-free life. The longer Tadas has to wait for the surgery the higher his risk for torn ligaments, arthritis, and other complications which will necesitate further surgeries. The surgeries will cost a total of over $3000.00, and as college students, we are having a hard time finding the funds to get Tadas the surgery this sweet kitty deserves. Any donations, however small, are extremely appreciated and 100% of the funds will go directly to Tadas’ surgery and follow-up medications.Â

Dash - Labrador Retriever / Mix - 1 year old
I sure like it when the volunteers come and take me for a walk. They can see how stressed and scared I am here at the shelter. They all tell me that I'm a sweetheart and very loving and that I have the cutest face. I hope my forever family finds me soon so I can get out of here and have a happy life. I am a little confused on why a fun loving, happy boy like myself is here at the shelter. My name is Dexter and I can't say enough fantastic things about myself I did get to live in a foster home for a short while and were happy to report that I am housetrained and crate trained. I love to play with other dogs and would love a forever home with a canine friend. They think I would be a great addition to an active adopter, since I love to play so much. Squeaker toys are very interesting and I can play in water all day if you let me. With all these great qualities there must be something wrong right? Well I have to admit I might not be best for a home if you have cats - I like to chase cats. I am pretty much amazing and I am thinking about you coming to adopt me right now. Cleopatra - Pit Bull / Mix - 3 years 10 months old
Hi, I'm Cleopatra. I have a regal name for a regal girl. I am really sweet with all the staff and volunteers, so many of them love on me because I'm a favorite around here. I'm not a "in your face" type of gal - they say I have the perfect energy level. I am really good on the leash - our volunteer coordinator uses me with brand new volunteers (that's saying a lot!). I prefer mellow dogs - those high energy ones kind of wear on my nerves, you know? But I haven't met your dogs yet, we may get along really well, so please bring them to meet me. One of my favorite humans told me I am an easy, sweet and precious soul. I'm 53 lbs, spayed and ready to head home today! Please help me out - everyone here says I really deserve a happy home.

Blythe - Shepherd/Mix - 2 years 4 mouths old
Get me out of this joint! My name is Blythe and if you are looking for an only pet - I am your girl. My name is Blythe and I have been at the shelter for longer than I would like to admit. I do have a slight problem with other dogs, I really don't like them much and it kind of shows when you walk me through the kennel area. What is most important is that I love people. I obey commands, I am housetrained and I can do okay on walks. I might need a little help with my leash manners, but what dog doesn't. My most favorite thing of all is playing with the ball. I love to run through the yards and toss around the ball; I can do a pretty good job of entertaining myself. I'm only 2 1/2 yrs old and have plenty of energy to do whatever fun things you want to do. This place is stressing me out and I am ready for you to come meet me and see for yourself just how fun I am. Please consider a fun girl like me to add to your family. Billy - Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier - 1 year old
Young, fun and ready for a family! My name is Billy and I am one happy guy. I pretty much love life and everyone I meet. I like hanging out with other dogs too, so much that I actually figured out how to raise my kennel door. I wanted to meet the cute pittie girl behind me Burma, so I did and now we are best of friends. The staff says we get along great so they are letting us keep each other company. I think she likes to push me around sometimes, I am still young and a little immature. I don't mind at all, we love to chase each other outside and she puts up with my jumpy playstyle. I also have a nose for those treats. The volunteers are trying to work with my on my manners and I think I will learn pretty quickly since I am motivated by those tasty treats. They can't stop talking about how happy I am. They noticed that even my injured back leg doesn't hold me back. I guess I maybe fractured it awhile ago and it is an old injury so I walk a little funny, but it doesn't bother me at all. All I know is whoever adopts me is going to be pretty lucky. I can guarantee a smile on your face the instant you see me. I am not sure what you are waiting for, come adopt me before someone else does. Billy arrived at the shelter on Oct 21st. He is 10 mo old, about 55lbs and was dropped off as a stray.

Baron - Pit Bull Terrier/ Mix - 4 years 7 months old
This well mannered boy is waiting patiently to be rescued from the shelter. My name is Baron and I can't wait to get my very own home with my very own family. These bright eyes have been searching for the right adopters to come along, but unfortunately I haven't found a perfect match yet. The volunteers love my even temper and say I am pretty great on walks. I know most of the basic commands and my all time favorite toy is anything squeaky. I could definitely get my belly rubbed every day with a few butt scratches too =) I get to play with other dogs, but I usually am pretty relaxed. You should probably know that I do have heartworms. I want you to know that it is easy to treat and there are great donors who have offered to help with my treatment. You just have to talk with an adoption counselor. Arizona - Pit Bull Terrier/ Mix - 2 years 4 months old
Do you want to be my new best friend? My name is Arizona and I am looking for someone who can stick by my side and help me the confident dog I know I can be. I was lucky enough to get some experience in a foster home and did so much better. I was friendly with anyone who came into the house and even started to greet people at events. My foster mom was trying to work with me on my jumping when I greet people, a small bad habit of mine. I can sometimes be a little cautious of strangers and bark when I see any suspicious people around. They also worked with me on my housetraining, but I'm not quite there yet. I am kennel trained and lived with 4 other dogs for a short time. My mom did notice that I have some leash aggression so walks didn't always work out so great. If I had a big back yard to run around in that would probably be best for me. She wanted you to know how sweet I am and that I love to just curl up into everyone and get hugged and loved on. She really misses me and wants me to find the best home ever. I will even let you dress me up in a cute little tutu! Who wouldn't want this sweet face to wake up to everyday. Starting Friday, January 10th, all dogs 40 pounds or more will be $40 as part of our "Shed Some Shelter Pounds" adoption event. Dogs at both our main shelter location and our Pet Adoption Center in Zona Rosa will qualify for the special, which will run until January 19th.
