You were not stupid and you sure as hell were not blind. You were well aware of the situation. As you had woken up in the middle of the night yet again reaching for the side which should've been occupied by your boyfriend, deep inside you knew it. It was of course empty. Empty just as your heart got day by day with the repetition of the same cycle. You would spend countless sleepless nights just worried about him, worried for his safety, and for what? So he could just shout at you when you tried starting a conversation about it? You're tired, you think. You don't have it in you anymore to argue. You know it's not the same man you once fell deeply in love with, surely not the same one who promised you the world. When you look at him you don't feel that unconditional love you once did, the one that would be tugging a big smile at your lips. There was nothing. The only thing you saw when you looked at him were all the women he chose to spend his time with while you were there crying yourself to sleep. You couldn't bear another confrontation. It would just drain all the energy you had left, so you decided to just leave quietly in the midst of a cold night. You left a small letter on the marble counter of your once shared kitchen, and right next to it the key he gave you the day he asked you to move in, after which you slowly pulled your little suitcase through the front door. Tears coursing down your cheeks as you brushed them off with your hands a lazy smile on your face knowing this is for the best.
Ran was unusually back earlier this time but immediately felt something was off when he walked through the front door. ''Babe?'', he called out for you as he was greeted with a deadly silence from the apartment, only thing that could be heard was the bustling city outside. 'Well this is weird, he thought as he kept searching for you from room to room without any luck. ''Y/N it's not funny, come out already'', he was convincing himself you were playing a prank on him or something, until he saw the apartment key on the marble counter next to what seems like a letter.
Pretty cowardly of me to be leaving you this way huh, but by the time you're reading this I'll probably already be gone. I guess I just couldn't find it in me to face you anymore. I'm just tired Ran. I really am. It hurt so fucking much, to the point I couldn't bear it anymore. I just knew if I confronted you again you would just hold me back and not let me leave, apologizing for what feels like the nth time now right? I finally decided that it's time to let go and move on, so just, please, promise me one thing. I beg you not to try looking for me or reaching out. I just wish to finally close this chapter in my life and if its destined, to also find somewhere that happiness you once promised me. Maybe in another life you could keep that promise of giving me the world but until then I wish you well. This is a final goodbye to us and what we once were. I just wanted you to meet me halfway but I guess it was just wishful thinking, though know that I really really loved you Ran.
No. This can't be it. You're just joking right. There is no way you actually left him forever. ''Okay babe the jig is up, you got me, ha ha very funny.'' Silence and nothing more. Ran started panicking now, rummaging through his coat to find his cellphone. Not a trace from you. No call. No message. He searched for your number and quickly pressed ''call''. Straight to voice mail. He quickly called his brother right after. ''Rin did you see Y/N by any chance?'', his voice panicked. ''No. Why would I-'', not even letting his brother finish the sentence Ran ended the call and rushed to the streets outside shouting your name, but to no avail. This was it huh. You were actually gone.
As he came back to the empty apartment and reflected on your relationship he finally admitted to himself that he deserved this. You were way too good for this world, way too good for him, and he, he treated you like you were worth nothing. Unaware how he was breaking one promise after another. All the ones you held dearly to your heart with a big smile on your face. Oh, how he wished he could see that smile just once more, but he knew he fucked up, and that the damage was irreversible. So why didn't he just stop? Couldn't he at least keep that last promise you begged of him in that cursed letter?
Why was he still, half a year later, sending massive flower arrangements to your office? Why was he constantly showing up at your door with random expensive gifts even though he was rejected and send out of the building multiple times? Why was your phone blowing up every single day for the past half year with the sweetest messages you wished you received back when you were together? A cliché thing to say but I guess you never know what you had until its gone for good.
Moving on was hell, you'll admit, but even with all of Ran's attempts you somehow managed through it. You eventually met the sweetest boy ever, Mitsuya Takashi, one who never allowed you to fall asleep at night alone or wake up in the morning without him by your side peppering you with small kisses to your face just to draw out that beautiful smile of yours. It was the little things, but that's what you loved about it the most. You felt you finally got another chance at love.
On a rainy day as Ran found himself once again parking right in front of your apartment building taking in his hands a box with a beautiful and luxurious necklace he picked out just for you, he heard a giggle across the street. Sounds like heaven, he thought. He could recognize that giggle anywhere. As he turned around he was met with you in the arms of another. You were soaked from the rain but it didn't bother you. You looked so pure as you were radiating happiness. Someone else was the source of it but not him. As he dropped the box he was holding a lone tear ran down his cheek while turning away from you and the man holding you. The reality finally kicked in. He could never fix what he has broken, it was hopeless from the get go. He could never be that source of happiness he once promised, because he was only the source of the pain and suffering in your life.
