Headcanon that James didn’t plan some extravagant proposal for Lily - in fact the only ring he had was the Potter heirloom because although he knew he wanted to marry her one day, he didn’t think he’d need a ring this soon. He asked her to marry him in the winter after they graduated. Both of his parents were dead, and they had a particularly grueling Order mission, with one of their run-ins with Voldemort and they got back to James’ apartment a total mess, and that’s when he does it. He realizes he’s shaking and pacing and grabbing his hair, and they’ve both lost blood, and he’s not sure how their friends are but in that moment the words come out, not even really a question, more like a statement of the obvious - marrying each other makes sense. He’s scared about how unsure their future is, and wants to make official the only thing that he is truly sure of: that he wants Lily by his side for his - their future, however long or short it may be.

Headcanon

Lily Evans was a Quidditch fanatic - a serious follower of the professional league and a huge fan of her House team. When she was young she struggled with her admiration for James as a Quidditch player and her anger at his childish actions, but when they started dating she was unbearably supportive of him.

From first year onward, she always regaled the highlights of the matches to her friends for the few days following the match (much to their annoyance, as they had been sitting next to her the entire match), but it got even worse when she was James’ girlfriend (“He scored thirteen goals, Marlene. Thirteen! And did you see that feint he pulled and–”).

She wore his secondary Quidditch jersey to every match, even when he was a spectator, sitting next to her - she couldn’t help it because she was so proud to wear Potter on her back.

She also received a few detentions for poor conduct during the games when James was fouled, and she got a weeks worth when the Slytherin Beater broke James’ arm (“Miss Evans, as Head Girl, I expect you to not behave in a manner that scares the first years!”).

Lily Evans ultra-supportive Quidditch girlfriend is my absolute favorite.

They just melded together that way in Seventh Year. They grew together over late nights and free periods. Found themselves together at Quidditch matches and Hogsmeade weekends. Smiled and laughed and debated and touched hands and hair and faces. When they walked from Herbology back to the castle, his arm hung lazily around her shoulders. When she laughed at his joke at breakfast she buried her face into his side.

They first kissed one night in late November, and the world continued spinning. There was no revelation of feelings, no wows, no this-could-work-couldnt-it? It was just what was meant to happen for them. Effortless, inevitable, beyond their control.

They could not pinpoint a beginning. The transition from friends to more was seamless and natural. There were no proposals, no “maybe we could"s or "would you be"s. It was as if they were meant to be with each other, and they finally let fate tie them together.

Jily Intro Fics: Hogwarts Years

Fics about James and Lily like to tell the whole saga of their Hogwarts years, usually starting from fifth or sixth year when things in their relationship start to change all the way up until their last day at Hogwarts or until they finally get together. Most of the following are multichapters (because writers love telling the whole story from start to finish) but there are a couple of one shots. They all involve Hogsmeade visits, Head Boy and Girl duties, Quidditch and other common tropes.

Buried Treasure and Transmogrify, M, 20 chapters, complete -  Lily Evans has spent years despising James Potter. He has spent just as long worshiping her. When seventh year pairs them Head Boy and Girl, each comes to realize that their judgment isn’t quite what they thought it was.

The Devil Wears Quidditch Gear, K+, 22 chapters, complete - Darn those bloody Quidditch robes. For all Lily Evans cared, Quidditch could be chucked into the next century. In fact, the stupid sport should just be outlawed all together. Come to think of it, so should the game of Truth or Dare.

Realising, T, one shot - James realises - not for the first time - that he cannot possibly be Head Boy when it takes three attempts plus Remus’s interceding just to get Lily to agree to have lunch with him.

A Month of Sundays, T, 25 chapters, complete - How exactly does Lily discover her buried feelings for James Potter? Picks up from James’s and Lily’s 5th year, shortly after Lily ends her friendship with Snape. 

A Puddifoots Valentines Date, K, one shot - Tossing aside his manly pride, James decides to take Lily on her perfect Valentine’s Day date at Madam Puddifoot’s tea shop.

Hot and Cold, M, one shot -  No one would believe it, but it actually hadn’t been his idea.

Headlong Collisions, T, one shot - Due to a Quidditch incident, James forgets a few important things… like the fact that he is dating Lily Evans. 

Commentarius, T, 32 chapters, WIP - Lily has always considered herself ordinary. But as she enters her 7th year, things start changing and Lily starts going a bit mad. Suddenly, she’s Head Girl, her mates are acting strangely, and there’s a new James Potter she can’t seem to get rid of.

Flower and Prongs, T, 31 chapters, complete - Lily Evans has become the new Hogwarts Head Girl, but her partner in action, the Head Boy, is her long hated enemy, James Potter.

One of Them, T, 28 chapters, complete - It’s a challenge. One week. Lily’s hanging out with the Marauders. But trying to keep up with four seventeen year old boys isn’t that easy. “If I win you don’t ask me out. At all. Never again.” “And if I win, you’re my girlfriend.” This’ll be interesting.

The Girl or the Game?, T, 13 chapters, complete - Lily won’t date James because of his Quidditch obsession, so he quits it for a bet. In 7 days, he struggles to cope with withdrawal symptoms, while she attempts to not fall in love with him and prevent embarrassing situations like sniffing his boxers.

Prelude to Destiny, T, 26 chapters, complete -  Lily’s goals were to get over her annoying crush on James Potter and avoid becoming Head Girl, but in 6th year after her ex-boyfriend shows up, everything started spiralling out of control.

All Right, Evans?, M, 30 chapters, complete -  The thing about being Lily Evans and James Potter was that you couldn’t do anything without everybody else saying something about it.

Untitled, M, one shot - Lily trying to seduce James when he has an essay to finish. 

Kiss and Tell, M, 17 chapters, complete - The rules were simple. Provoke each other. Scream at each other. Snog each other. Do this as frequently as possible, but don’t ever, ever kiss and tell.

Tears on the Balcony, M, 51 chapters, complete - Lily & James have hated each other ever since their initial meeting took a wrong turn. After a shocking goodbye at the end of their 6th year, are things going to be any different in the following year when they are forced to work together as Head Boy and Head Girl?

A Proposal of Sorts, T, one shot - In which Lily is distracted by James, and finally decides to do something about it. 

The Life and Times, M, 36 chapters, WIP - She was dramatic. He was dynamic. She was precise. He was impulsive. He was James, and she was Lily, and one day they shared a kiss, but before that they shared many arguments, for he was cocky, and she was sweet, and matters of the heart require time.

Love and Other Tragedies, M, 21 chapters, complete - “We don’t deserve her,” the Head Boy answered thoughtfully. “None of us do. Not even me. Not because she’s perfect. She’s not. Kıvırcık saçlılar için kahkül kabustur. Kıvırcık ve yağlı saçlılar için duble kabustur, karabasandır, ruh emicidir, uyku felcidir. Ama çok şirindir ya! O yüzden gidip bir hevesle kestirdiğim kahkülümden 5 senedir ayrılamıyorum. Kahkülünüz güzel durmuyorsa üzerinde uğraşmanızı tavsiye ederim, zira güzel durmayacaksa neden dursun? Tokayla toplayın ve uzamasını bekleyin. Ben uğraşmayı tercih ediyorum. Her sabah sıcak suyla ve katı bir sabunla 2 defa sabunluyorum ki fön çekimi kolay olsun ve yağlı durmasın. Bu kısım şart. Şart şart şart. Kahküller ne kadar kısaysa o kadar şekle girer. Kaşların altını geçmesin. Ama kısa olsun diye de gidip amelie kahkülü kesitrerek ameleye benzemeyin. Kahküllerin uçları sivri olursa boka benzersiniz. Bazı kuaförler orospu çocuğu piçlikler olduğundan böyle şeyler yapabilirler. Önceden durdurup düz kesmelerini söyleyin. Kahkülleri fönlemenin en iyi yolu, saçları makineyle bir sağaaaa bir sola yatırmak. Nedenini sormayın. Ortada birleşiyorlar işte. Makineyi ortadan istediğiniz kadar tutun, kahküller kıvrılır ve bok gibi olur. Ama bir sağa bir sola yatırarak tutun bakın nasıl düzleşiyorlar. Bu numarayı kuaförler bile bilmez. Bana yapamadılar, göt gibi saçlarla gittim düğünlere onların yüzünden. Halbuki verse elime makineyi.... Düzleştirme çıbıkları kullanmayın. Yağlandırır. Göt gibi yağlandırır. Sağlıcakla.

Lastik/tel değişimi, braketler hakkında

Tel kullananlar için, dişçiye her gittiğinizde yeni bambaşka bir işkence aletiyle karşınıza çıkacak doktorunuz. Bunlardan birisi lastik. Bu lastikler ağrıtır ama unutmayın, takmadığınız her gün, tedavinizi 1 gün daha uzatıyorsunuz. Yani o lastik enindr sonunda takılacak kardeşim. Düzenli olaral tak, kurtul. Ciddi söylüyorum. İstemiyorsan okulda takma, saatlerini geceye göre ayarla. Ama o lastiği tak. Püf noktası düzen. Tel değişimi ağrıtır. 2 3 gün yemek yerken dişlerin ağrır, püreler ve ezilmiş köftelerle beslenmek zorunda kalırsın. Ama telaş edecek bir şey yok. Doktoru arayacak bir şey de yok. Braketler arası lastik: Bunlar ön dişlerinizin arasına bir yere takılmışsa eğer, dilinizle dişinizi kurcalarken dikkatli olmanızı şiddetle tavsiye ederim. Dilin üzerindeki küçük tüycüklerden birini yakaladığında bırakmaz şerefsizler. Sakın taktırmayın. Saç telinizi ağzınıza sokup oynarken sakın brakete/braket lastiğine taktırmayın. Apandisinize gider ameliyat olursunuz valla. Diş fırçasını hayvan gibi fırçalayıp brakete telini taktırıp apandist olmayın. Braket kopması: dişinize yüklenmeyin. Şan fıstığı elinizle soyun. Elma dilim dilim yiyin. Hele ki barbie bebek ayakkabısını ayağına dişinizle ittirerek giydirmeyin. Tedavi 1 ay uzuyor.
