DRABBLE 018 | I’ll Get You Back
This is sort of weird. It was made based on Wyatt’s reaction to news of Audrey and Brayden dating. I changed it because one of my forever otps is wydrey. I wanted them to hash some things out and see the issues that they have to work on. Natalie is at fault too, but only Jack’s came up in this drabble.
Jackson leaned back in his chair as he read what Danielle had texted him. He had suspected such, but he didn’t know that her new boyfriend would be one of his supposed best friends. He honestly felt betrayed and even more as he found out all his friends already knew. He had to hear that his heart had been taken from him by someone he wasn’t really acquainted with. He wondered when and how Joshua found out and also why he didn’t tell him the first chance he got.
Did he already know when he had warned him a couple of weeks earlier? He warned Jackson that someone would take her if he didn’t get to her first. He had naively given Jacobs the benefit of the doubt.
He didn’t blame Natalie.
He couldn’t blame Natalie.
He sure as hell blamed Lucas though.
He was pissed, extremely pissed.
Nathan told him that he was heading back to school before they ended up getting caught by one of the teachers. Jackson was too focused on getting drunk to remind him that he just so happened to be the current Head Boy of the school. So, instead, he only nodded as Nathan left him alone.
He told the bartender to keep sending drinks to a back table.
“Here are your dri-”
“He doesn’t need anymore.”
Jackson looked up to see who had taken away his temporary pain reliever and found himself staring into a pair of familiar blue eyes.
Natalie.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to take you back to the dorms.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re drunk.”
“So…”
“Jackson!”
“What? What? What do you possibly have to say to me? I’m sorry for lying to you?
“No, because I’m not sorry since I never even lied to you. Unless I did? Look, I’m not even sure why you’re mad at me.”
Jackson rolled his eyes. “Lucas.”
“What about Lucas?”
“I saw the pictures.”
“That’s why you’re drinking?” Natalie sat down next to him close enough that their thighs were touching. “You’re such an idiot. I’m not dating Lucas. The two of us are just friends, okay? That kiss meant nothing. We were just trying to see if there was anything more.”
“Danielle said..”
Natalie groaned. “Danielle is a fucking troll. She’s been having a tough time lately and destruction makes her feel better. I love her, but I’m going to kick her ass soon.”
Silence.
Neither of them spoke a word until Natalie looked at her phone to check the time.
“Look, if we’re being honest here. I came here this year hoping to get over you. If we’re being honest here then I… I regret breaking up with you, but a part of me also feels like it was needed. I..was hurt because of Hanna. I… why Hanna? You two have always been close. I don’t know. Who knows?” She paused for a quick second. “Maybe I kissed Lucas because he was my closest friend and he’s also yours. I don’t know. I don’t know anything anymore. All I know is that I…my heart still hurts and maybe I wanted you to hurt too.”
“I see. I guess I can understand that too. I’m going to win you back.” He replied determinedly.
“Let’s go back before we’re fired on the first day back.”
Natalie stood up and waited for Jackson to get his bearings. Jackson threw some money down on the table and the two headed outside.
“We’re having problems, aren’t we?”
Jesse already knew the answer to his question. She had been avoiding him even more so than the time she wouldn’t admit her true feelings. After the kissing booth, everything between the two started going downhill. For awhile now, he’s been wondering what was going on in his mind. He even when so far as to ask her best friend, Brayden about it. He decided to take his advice and confronted her.
She didn’t reply, she only stared down at the ground. He was trying to be patient, but it was kind of difficult since he wanted everything to be alright.
“Tasha’s in love with you,” She admitted quietly.
He looked at her weirdly. “And what does that have to do with us?” He asked, not understanding the connection.
“I kind of have this thing where I don’t date people my friends like, much less love.” She looked up at him, eyes glistening, immediately alerting him of the fact that she’s about to cry.
“That’s stupid,” He stated, frowning. “What if you’re completely in love with the person?”
She only shrugged and shook her head. “I don’t know. I mean, it depends honestly. In this situation, you and me are already together.”
“Look, forget about all of that. You had me first, Drey. I love you so forget about Tasha. I was yours.”
Shaking her head sadly, she brushed the tears from her eyes. “No, you were hers,” She pointed out. “I didn’t have you, Jesse. She told me that she was the reason behind your break-up with Jules. At first, I didn’t believe her because if that was true, why did Jules help you with me? So, I asked her….”
“AUDREY!”
They both turned around at the yelling of her name, sighing once they saw that it was Tasha. Jesse mentally cursed her, making a mental note to speak to her later.
“I have to go,” she said, already walking away.
“Wait!”
She paused, turning back around. He quickly approached her and pulled her towards him, kissing her once she was in his arms.
“Please ignore her, okay? I don’t want to lose you.” He told her as he pulled away. “I’ll see you at the game.”
She smiled softly and he knew that they’d be discussing the whole situation later on. He watched as Tasha and Audrey had a wordless conversation before Audrey shrugged at her. When she entered the bus, his eyes met Tasha’s. The look she gave him was one of hurt, but he didn’t say anything to her.
He’ll save that for another day.
As soon as she was done with her all of her work duties, she went to go see her boyfriend’s kissing booth. For some reason, Jesse thought that this booth would help raise some money for the Glee Club’s upcoming competitions. It was a smart idea that she knew someone would attempt to recreate at one of the school’s fairs. It was during that meeting that Tasha had been particularly mean to Jesse and some people had retaliated which ended with Tasha crying in the hallway. Tasha had been really harsh, but Audrey had comforted her longtime friend, telling her that both parties were wrong.
Throughout the entire school day, she heard that Erica, Juliette, and surprisingly even Tasha had all kissed Jesse. Even though, she knew that it was all for a good cause, she couldn’t help but frown. If they had money, why didn’t they just donate it to Glee Club in the first place? They technically didn’t even have to kiss him. Tasha was the one that honestly bothered her. She always acted like she hated the ground he walked on, but she was starting to realize that her rudeness had all been for show.
The first thing she noticed was the long line of girls with money in their hands. She waited somewhat patiently as she watched all of the girls kiss her boyfriend. Would it be weird if she made him wipe his mouth before kissing her? She did not want mono. She took notice of the box of tissue placed in front of him, hoping that he was making great use of it. When Jesse finally spotted her, he smiled brightly, gesturing for her to come up to the booth. Before coming here, she had made sure to put his favorite flavor of chapstick on.
Slipping a five dollar bill into the jar, she smirked at him. “Looks like you owe me five kisses.” Of course, she didn’t plan on giving him five individual kisses, just one long kiss.
He smiled at her happily. “Of course,” He replied, leaning forward. She smiled, her lips touching his slowly at first before he pulled away.
“You’re wearing my favorite.” He whispered, licking his lips.
She nodded, pulling him back towards her. He didn’t protest as she reconnected their lips, his hand going to the side of her face. The two were pretty much making out by now before Audrey pulled away, biting his bottom lip as she did. He groaned, forgetting that the two of them had an audience. He finally noticed, pointing behind her. Audrey leaned back, turning around to see what he pointed at. She shrugged sheepishly, taking in all of the shocked expressions of the girls still in line.
“Oops?” She didn’t sound sorry at all as she glanced back at Jesse.
“We’ll finish this later.” He told her, waving as she walked away.
Despite wanting to remain cold-hearted towards him, she smiled brightly at him. The smile he gave her in return was worth giving in. She had been impatiently waiting for that, but didn’t think that it was true. She could admit that it was also due to the fact she was being stubborn.
“I love you too,” She replied, standing up. “I’m sorry it took me so long to admit it and I’m sorry that I walked away that day. I’m in love with you, okay?”
Ding! Ding! Ding!
The pair broke out of their spell by the sound of their fellow members rushing to get into formation. She noticed the confused look on Tasha’s face, taking in the fact that her friend’s eyes had darkened considerably once she saw how close Jesse and Audrey were together. She made a mental note to ask him about that later. With one last glance at him, she started walking to where she was supposed to be.
“Audrey?” she turned around, a small smile on her face.
“Hmm?”
He walked closer to her, smiling slightly. “What does this mean for us?” He questioned quietly. “I mean, you’re my girlfriend now, right?”
She smirked, walking backward. “You tell me.” She winked before hurrying over to her spot.
“You’re mine.” He affirmed, staring at her. He had spoken pretty quietly, knowing that she would hear him. She looked up and nodded, smiling.
“Can we talk?”
Jesse asks, approaching the blonde who was currently stretching on the floor. She had a large number coming up that she was doing with Darren Chen. She looks up at him, switching her position and nods her head. Jesse wasn’t prepared for her yes to come so quickly so it takes him a minute to realize that she had agreed.
“I love you,” He states, staring directly into her eyes. “I know you told me to forget about you, but I don’t want to. I meant what I told you in the Choir Room that day, Audrey. I’m in love with you. I’m sorry that I was such a jerk in the first place, forgive me?” He smiles, showing her that half-smirk her always did that she told him once that she loved. He’s hoping that it helps keep her from yelling at him.
Ever since their completely stupid and unneeded argument in the hallway, Audrey had been keeping her word. She hasn’t looked at him, hasn’t spoken to him, and managed to avoid him at all costs. He, on the other hand, was confusing her with his behavior. She could feel his stare on her, mainly in their shared classes or in Glee Club. She tried to ignore it, but it was getting harder to keep herself from turning around to glare at him. She knew that she had to confront him soon.
As everyone piled out of the Choir Room, she crossed her legs and leaned back in her chair, watching as he followed all of them out before stopping at the last minute.
“You’re not holding up your end of the bargain, Jesse.”
He quickly spun around to face her, a hopeful look on his face before he caught a good look at her face.
“What? Cat got your tongue?” She stood up, crossing her arms across her chest. Was he seriously not going to say anything? “You specifically told me you were done with my “shit” yet here you are! Staring at me, smiling and singing to me. Someone’s not keeping their word.”
She was taunting him and she knew it but at this point, she didn’t care. She was too pissed off. He had told her those hurtful things and now he wouldn’t even… explain himself?
Suddenly, he stalked towards her, too close for comfort. She stared up at him, her eyes wide.
“Did you ever stop to think that it’s impossible? Or maybe I just don’t want to let you go.”
Taking a step backward, she rolled her eyes before brushing past him. “Try.”
“I love you.” He blurted out. “I do have feelings for you.”
She paused, contemplating on whether or not she should stay.
She didn’t.
“I don’t understand why you’re so mad at me, Jesse. What did I even do?”
Jesse, with that simple sentence, became even more pissed off than he already was. She was acting so innocent in this whole conversation and he couldn’t help the next words that came out of his mouth.
“Audrey! I’m so sick and tired of your shit! What do you even want? Why can’t you just own up and spare me the heartbreak, okay? Sometimes I wish that you’d just leave me alone and get out of my mind!”
By the end of his speech, Jesse was still pretty heated, but one look at Audrey stopped him cold. She cocked her head to the left slightly, coldly staring up at him. The longer he made eye contact with her, the more he seriously believed that she could see into people’s souls. He tried to hold on to his anger, but her glare was making him want to back down.
After a couple of seconds, Audrey was the one that backed down, taking a step backward, her eyes not as harsh.
“Well, I sincerely apologize for bothering you with all of my “shit”. And own up to what exactly? Huh?” She narrowed her eyes at him, scoffing. “What do I want? I thought that I made it pretty clear that I wanted you since I admitted that I had feelings for you! If there’s anyone here, that’s being an ass, it’s you!”
Jesse chose not to comment because he knew that he’d only make the situation worse, but he wasn’t one for showing restraint.
“Actions certainly speak louder than words.” He commented.
“You know what? Let me just grant you your wish. Stay out of my way and I’ll stay out of yours.”
Audrey brushed past him, not sparing him another glance as she practically stomped down the hallway.
She looked absolutely beautiful dancing on the stage. If anyone knew that he was currently in love with her then they’d be major problems. He knew the two of them could never be together, of course. Tasha was supposedly pining over him and she just so happened to be one of Audrey’s close friends. Audrey, herself, was probably still pining over Brayden. There was a large part of him that couldn’t help but hope that something would happen between the two of them.
Seeing her down there made him smile brightly. She was basically the only person that didn’t judge him for his past mistakes and always listened to him when he spoke with her.
Screw it.
He decided that he was going to take his chance and nothing would stop him. He only hoped that he wouldn’t get his heart broken in the end.
“Who told you?” He asked, interrupting her mid-sentence. She looked at him eyebrows raised as if waiting for him to elaborate. “Who told you that I loved you?”
She set down the pen and paper that she had been holding, taking off the hat that she had been wearing. Running her fingers through her hair, she sighed and leaned back against the chair.
“You sure didn’t….” She muttered, not bothering to look in his direction. He figured that she hadn’t intended on him hearing her reply but he had.
“Why do you need to know?” She finally replied. “It’s not true anyways.”
As soon as she uttered the last sentence, Jesse knew that he should’ve just told her right then and there that he does love her, but he stupidly decided to focus on the who. He watched as Audrey placed her hat back on her head and picked up her pen and paper.
“Anyways, can you bend that piece of metal into something?”
He didn’t want to talk about magic, he needed to know who told her. “Who?” He demanded, moving closer to her.
“And I repeat, why do you need to know?”
“I don’t know…”
“Then there’s your answer.”
Why was she always confusing him?
“Do you love me, Audrey?” He finally asked. He stared at her intently, willing her to look at him, but she only stared at the door, not bothering to answer. “And I repeat, do you love me?”
“I’m sorry but that answer is not available at the moment.”
“Why?”
“Because you wouldn’t tell me.”
“Just…answer.”
“Fine,” She finally turned to look at him, her eyes slightly pleading before she buried the emotion. “Yes, Jesse. I’m completely in love with you and now I feel completely stupid.”
She stood up suddenly, no longer making direct eye contact with him. He didn’t say anything, only watched as she headed for the door. “We can finish this later. I’ll have them send someone else.”
Jesse honestly wasn’t sure why Jules was throwing a random party because no one seemed to be in a party mood besides Noel and the regular partiers. As he entered her basement, he looked around to see who all had showed up. It didn’t take him a long time to notice the current object of his affections, Audrey.
He hadn’t seen her around lately and he also noticed that she had barely been around Juliette as well. He knew that it was his fault since he had decided to ask Jules out right in front of her. When he had approached the two of them, he had been extremely mad because of Audrey’s behavior. Jules didn’t waste time in giving him an earful. She insisted that he was hurting Audrey and in return, Audrey was hurting him as well. He only scoffed and started avoiding her as well.
She was sitting on top of Jules’ washing machine, blankly staring at all of the people having fun. She appeared to have arrived alone, but he had seen Justin walking around earlier. He hoped that he wouldn’t be forced to see them together again especially because of what took place at an earlier party. Taking Jules’ advice, he walked over to her to try and make small conversation.
“Hey, Audrey.” He greeted with a small smile.
She looked at him briefly before hopping off of the washing machine.
“Hi,” she replied, not bothering to smile. “How have you been?”
Was she continuing the conversation? His smile grew brighter.
“I’ve been good,” He stated. “You?”
“Not so good,” she told him, crossing her arms over her chest. “I’m confused and I don’t like the feeling. I’ve heard multiple times that you have feelings for me but not once have you ever told me.”
Jesse’s eyes widened and he started to say something.
“But hey! Don’t worry about it. Only saying hey is definitely more than enough for me.”
As she brushed past him, he only turned to look at her in confusion. Did that mean that she had feelings for him as well?
“You’re hurting him.” She stated once she found Audrey. Audrey only looked at her, not even bothering to speak. Juliette sighed. “Are you dating him? Justin, I mean?”
“What? No,” She replied. “I’m in love with Jesse. I can’t believe I just said that out loud.” Audrey sighed and slid down to the floor.
Juliette joined her a couple seconds later. She was quite happy to hear her say the words out loud. She was beginning to believe that their relationship would be a nasty one.
“Tell him then.” She suggested.
Audrey bit her lip and looked down before staring at him across the hall.
“No, he has to tell me first. Why do I have to be the one? You came to me, remember?” She explained. “I love him, but I don’t want to get hurt.”
Juliette smiled sadly at Audrey’s confession. “Tell him, Audrey. Did you not see his face when you were all over Justin? You’re hurting him and you’re hurting yourself.”
Audrey scoffed. “I was not all over him! He sang me a song. I happen to love being serenaded. I’m not telling him anything!”
Jules’ response was interrupted by someone’s approach.
“Hey, Jules. You. Me. Friday night?”
“I’ll leave you two alone.” Audrey’s heart silently broke, but she placed a small smile on her face before getting up and walking away.
She could briefly hear Juliette telling him off, but that still didn’t appease her heart.
Juliette || Drabble || W. Audrey and Justin
Juliette couldn’t believe this.
She thought that she had finally convinced Audrey to tell Jesse her true feelings but she was so obviously wrong. She didn’t even want to turn around in her seat, in fear of what his face looked like. She was mad at Audrey, but figured that if anyone knew what she was thinking, it’d be the girl herself She made a mental note to talk to the girl sometime later when she wasn’t all over Justin.
Who knew? Seriously, who fucking knew?
Justin and Audrey?
Darren was just as much at fault as she was. Jesse told her that a part from her, Darren and even Brayden knew as well.
Why did he help?
As she watched Audrey get up and dance towards Justin, her mind became even more jumbled up than before as she watched the two brightly smile at each other.
Suddenly, she noticed Audrey’s smile fall as someone in the back row caught her eye. Juliette finally decided to turn around to see for herself. She immediately noticed the staring contest that Jesse and Audrey were currently having.
Oh no.
She knew that look very well. He was either going to storm out or say something negative. Thankfully, it was the former and as soon as he left, Audrey’s face dropped.
What the hell is going on?
“Audrey! Audrey! Could you stop? Audrey!” She yelled out. She was practically screaming and she felt everyone’s eyes on her, but of course she didn’t mind. Once Audrey stopped, she immediately ran to catch up. “Finally! Look, can I talk to you about Jesse?”
“Why?”
She hurriedly thought about something to say instead of blurting out his secret. She didn’t know why she agreed to this, but I guess she wanted Jesse to end up happy and she knew that without Audrey’s confirmation that he wouldn’t admit it.
“He loves you.” she stated and immediately groaned, but it was enough to stop Audrey from leaving again.
She turned around and looked down, with a frown. “Why? H-he…oh my…When?” she stuttered out.
“You’ll have to ask him that.“ She smiled brightly at Audrey and grabbed her hand. “I suggest doing it soon like before the big away game.”
“Listen, Jules. We all want someone we can’t have. I just can’t tell with you. You want me or wanted, but then you’re so in love with Blake. You know who I truly want? Her.” he stated.
They were currently at Juliette’s house party and he had been explaining to her different types of drunks and they somehow got on the topic of relationships. He wasn’t sure why he was telling her all of this but he continued on anyways.
“Why don’t you just tell her?” she replied.
Jesse laughed. “Tell her?! Me and her, it’ll never work. Besides, it’s no secret she hates me. I’m a jerk.”
Juliette smiled softly at him. “No, you’re not. Here, I’ll make you a deal, I’ll ask Audrey what she thinks if you agree to tell her that you’re in love with her.”
Jesse turned towards her shocked. “Who said anything about love?”
“Your eyes did.”
He tried not to smile as she walked up to him. It had been a couple of days since he had finally told her how he felt and she had just let him walk away without a word. After that incident, he had taken to ignoring or avoiding her at all costs no matter what and now here she finally was and it was only…forever.
“I love you too.” she said simply. “And I’m sorry it took me so long to realize that, but I just needed to think, but I know now. I’m absolutely sure.“ She smiled at him as she finished telling him what he had always wanted to hear. He grabbed her hand, this time pulling her close. Using one hand to wrap around her waist, he leaned down and kissed her, finally happy. Leaning back, he shut his locker before the two of them walked hand in hand down the hallway.
Was this really happening?
He wasn’t too sure to be honest. Audrey was currently laying on his shoulder while they watched the other kids in Glee Club perform. Did she even know what she was doing to him? It had been a month since he had broken up with Alexis and he could tell that she was growing closer to Blake Lawson, but he had already seen that coming. He could see the confused looks the others were sending their way, but if she noticed, she didn’t show it so he didn’t either.
He wanted to ask, but didn’t know how to begin. So, he waited until the last song was sung and the others began to head out of the Choir Room, all looking back. Pretty soon, it was just the two of them together and he was suddenly nervous. She cleared her throat, but he still didn’t look at her.
“Is something wrong?”
Ignoring her question, he asked his own. “What’s going on, Audrey? I mean, what are you doing to me er with me?”
Audrey raised an eyebrow before walking to stand in front of him.“You’re going to have to elaborate on that, Jesse. You won’t even look at me….”
He sighed, she was doing that thing again. She wouldn’t answer until he answered and he wasn’t sure he even wanted to. Sighing again, he grabbed her hand.
“I like you, Audrey.” he started, mumbling. “No. I more than like you, I’m in love with you.” Still holding her hand, he looked down at her. She still hadn’t said anything. “Say something…Please.”
“That’s why you’ve been acting weird? Since that day in the library.” she replied.
He was suddenly disappointed. That’s not what he wanted to hear, he wanted her to say those words back to him. He wanted to be able to hold her close without people whispering and giving them those stupid, weird looks because they both knew that she wouldn’t go for someone like him.
“Forget I said anything.” He reluctantly dropped her hand and walked out of the Choir Room, hoping that she wouldn’t just watch him go.
