Spoilers below: BNHA chapter 291
Alright, since I’m going on a small rant about these new leaks, and my little brother is always telling me he hates Hawks. Let’s talk about some things, yeah?
I believe Hawks is the biggest hero of this fucking arc. Think about it now. If Hawks hadn’t gone undercover, no one would’ve known what the league was planning. If he hadn’t warned Endeavor in secret, he would probably be dead. There would be thousands of casualties with the close destruction of Japan. Even imagine what would happen if Hawks hadn’t killed Twice? More death. Hawks gave Twice a chance, multiple at that to join the good side, resisting killing him. This man, has sacrificed so much. Sacrificing his own sanity and quirk, exploiting himself, killing, ignoring casualties that he was forced to do... he’s still a hero, a hero that saved so many fucking people at all costs, sacrificing almost everything. And someone else made another comment that’s why Dabi shouted his name, to ruin his hero career since his father was a murderer, and the video Dabi shows clearly views Hawks as murdering Twice in cold blood, when in reality it was his last option.
I cannot imagine the baggage that is weighing on Hawks right now. The commission asking him to ignore civilian casualties for the mission, risking his life for something that might not even work (the secret mission to infiltrate the LOV), and now, the fact that the idol he looked up to, the man he viewed as the perfect hero, abused his children and was only selfish. That must’ve shattered his reality. The commission used his admiration to manipulate him, all Hawks believed was a lie. (Obviously now Endeavor is trying to be better but still, now Hawks might have known I’m not sure, this is only what I’m seeing.) Now I’m beginning to question whos actually corrupt. The heroes, the villains, the society? I believe it’s all.
Most of the villains especially Dabi and Shigaraki were abused by the society and weren’t rescued by the heroes everyone praises. No one was there to save them, where were the heroes for them? And Dabi being abused by a top three hero? Even worse. He’s completely rightful in what he wants. Vengeance, revenge for the pain he went through, his life was ruined. His body, his mind, shattered and broken beyond compare where he could only turn to villainy. Stain came along with the idea of False Heroes, and honestly, I agree with his ideology, except for the whole killing part. Dabi understands and relates to this, which is why he wanted to peruse it. And by shouting Hawks name right before he killed Twice, exploiting him, he reminded Hawks that the past never forgets. You can’t run. However, Dabi isn’t heartless, just in so much fucking pain. I don’t think killing Endeavor will satisfy him. Once it’s all said and done, yeah he’ll be glad, but what else, what other purpose does he have right now to live for other than seeing the super-human society crumble. It was clear in his broadcast and the sheer look on his face he didn’t truly enjoy killing innocent people, as shown by when he’s reflecting how he killed Snatch and cried after words even though his tear glands are burnt up.
The heroes I don’t have much on, primarily Endeavor. There’s been many heroes that have died at the hands of villains. This is just my personal opinion, but some of the heroes in the series pretty much care about popularity and fame. This was just my personal first opinion so please don’t come at me for this, but Mt. Lady rubbed me the wrong way. Getting irritated she wasn’t in the top ten with a fellow hero she worked close with, or when she first appeared. I don’t have much evidence on how corrupt other heroes are, but some of the reasons for people becoming heroes isn’t clear, and reflects differently. I mean even Uraraka, she wants to be a hero to have money to support her parents, not for the sheer benefit of helping people. However, she has evolved over the course of the manga, so this might’ve changed.
The commission hasn’t been mentioned much, at least from what I have seen, only that Hawks works for them and obeys their orders without batting an eye. His chance at a normal life was slim considering his father was a villainous robber/murderer, but the commission didn’t give him any chances either. They pushed him to his limits, molding him and corrupting him into their own weapon. He’s even mentioned to Twice he feels likes he’s in a cage, and wants to be free. The commission has him shackled, their own personal slave with a pretty face and obedient attitude they molded and forced into him. Now because of them, he’s lost almost everything.
Dabi has every right in the fucking world to be pissed, and upset, and to fucking rage. Hawks is not a villain. He’s a fucking hero. The past never forget, but that’s all the more reason to change the future. Learn from those mistakes, change, adapt. Dabi is blinded by rage, Hawks has had his eyes covered by the commission and leash around his neck for too long. These two men, have been through the wringer. Abused, manipulated, corrupted.
I apologize for this long spiel about everything, but all of this is strictly opinion, so I understand if people disagree, this wasn’t meant to offend anyone at all. I just wanted to express my thoughts on everything.
Hawks and Dabi deserve only the best. Neither of them asked for this. Dabi didn’t ask to be abused and deemed a failure, mutilating himself just to be worthy of his fathers love. Hawks didn’t ask to be the son of a murderer, he didn’t ask for the commission to take him away. I can only hope they can have a somewhat happy ending in all of this.
