Ah, yes. This will do nicely. Wait…this is two bars too long. Do I cut out the trick? PFFFFF, NO. But…but then I have to cut rhythm. Nope. No. Not a chance. Find a new tune? But it’s so preeeetty!! *does it full eight more times* Clunky bit in the middle. BAI, BITCH. Obviously this is now a bar short. Well, fuck. Time to check tumblr for new trends. *sees Abby Coy’s twisty twist* *SNATCH* My set is complete. Le Masterpiece. OK, but can I do it in shoes?

2nd step, right foot: yeah okay, dancing takes effort, but see I’m hitting these rhythms, kind of

2nd step, left foot: i imagine death so much it feels more like a memory, is this where it gets me? on my feet, several feet ahead of me? … there is no beat, no melody

3rd step: AT LEAST I CAN STAMP LOUD

It’s hard to sum up a person in just a few sentences, especially when they were such a shining light to all who knew them. Mrs Whelan was so kind, honest, funny and passionate. She always had something to say, and saved me from many whole dances and drills at class by pulling me aside to spend a few minutes (or sometimes half an hour) discussing whatever exciting news she’d just heard. She always knew how to shake off our nerves, or cheer us up if we were upset or struggling. She reminded me to never allow anyone to get into my head, to be a lady at all times, to dance with joy and to truly believe in my own potential. She always had faith in me. I’m so honoured to have been her student, and will always be so grateful to Mrs Whelan and Bernadette for everything they have taught me in dancing and in life. Today was supposed to be a final farewell, but I don’t believe that’s accurate. As far as I’m concerned Mrs Whelan will always be with me, sitting on her chair at class and drilling my toe height or turn out, telling me to push just that little bit more. Shining down from the lights as her students take the stage. As I finish my last couple of months competing and hopefully begin the next chapter as an Irish Dance teacher, I know that you’ll be with me every step of the way. I’m blessed to have you to look up to, as a teacher and as a truly good human being. Rest peacefully Mrs Whelan. The Dwyer Whelans dance for you.
