yunho never really thought much about how loud he could be.
sure, he got excited during games.
sure, he occasionally tripped over his own feet.
amongst other things. like dropping his phone on his face. or his headset.
but loud enough to make someone consider moving away?
...that one stung.
a lot.
he couldn't help rereading the group chat.
she's considering moving because of you.
she's exhausted.
she's the one losing sleep over this.
and it left him wondering.
was he really... that bad of a neighbour?
surely not.
right? right.
but well...
he decided, he'd be a better neighbour.
in fact, he was determined to be the best neighbour there ever was to neighbour.
just to be safe, obviously. no other reason. none.
he decided his first step was to apologise to mango. surely the most important part.
and the best way to do so? with treats, of course.
after doing extensive research on every cat website, blog, and forum he could find, he somehow ended up with a three-page list of treats, toys, food, and accessories that were apparently "essential."

he was on a mission.
he got a rather large basket, and filled it with everything on his list and more.
even went as far as adding a few food related accessories.
got a cat themed card and even decorated the basket with a bow.
the basket itself was larger than the cat.
which, considering mango wasn't exactly small, was saying something.
he carefully carried the basket home as if it was made of glass. didn't want to risk dropping it and ruining all the goodies.
he tried his best to approach your apartment quietly, and made sure it was placed in front of your door with the most care possible.
did he almost drop it millimetres from the ground? yes.
did he manage to trip over your next door neighbour's hallway plant? also yes.
did he almost fall face first on the stairs after ringing your bell and then running for his life so he didn't have to talk to you, and consequently make a fool of himself? yes.
but we won't talk about it.
a week had passed, and he hadn't heard anything from you. nor yeosang for that matter.
but he did see you at the convenience store near your shared apartment building.
at first he wanted to hide. so he did.
as if he could successfully hide his clumsy ass. tall as a tower.
but you weren't really paying that much attention to anything else.
more preoccupied in cursing yourself for buying more than you could safely carry back home.
but unknowingly to you, yunho was watching. having a war with himself.
ultimately his desperate need to fall back in your good grace won.
he approached you as silently as he could.
"I can help with that"
"fuu–" you managed to bite your tongue before completing the whole word.
what you couldn't manage to stop was the way your soul left your body for two seconds.
the cashier witnessing the exchange could swear you jumped two feet in the air.
exaggerated? maybe. still funny though.
"jesus, yunho, you scared me" you press a hand to your chest, certain your heart is trying to beat its way out.
you close your eyes and take a deep breath trying to calm yourself down.
he's gonna be the death of me.
"I'm so sorry!!"
waay to go yunho, you idiot
"it's fine... i should be more aware of my surroundings" you sigh, crouching down to grab the few bags that fell of your grasp.
yunho tried to help, but somehow still managed to spill some of the contents on to the floor.
you could tell he was nervous.
you eyed him curiously.
you wanted to deny his help. you really did.
but you also knew you couldn't carry everything by yourself.
and there was also the matter of the cat themed basket left at your door.
it wasn't signed.
but you had a suspicion it was him.
the walk back to your shared building was mainly in silence.
you could hear him from time to time mumbling something under his breath.
you could see him fidgeting with the handles of the plastic bags from the corner of your eye.
it was endearing, actually.
how nervous he seemed around you.
who would've thought...
you tried to suppress the smile that was fighting to show. biting your lower lip so it wouldn't stretch and give away your amusement.
"thank you for the basket"
you tilted your head a bit, to look at him. you could see the look of surprise on his face.
he's so expressive.
so funny... cute.
he looked at you sideways. eyes wide open. not moving an inch.
making even harder for you not to laugh at this giant of a man, that behaved so much like an actual puppy.
you could actually picture it. your parents had had a golden retriever when you were a kid.
and he would look at you exactly the same way yunho was looking at you right now.
when you would scold him or he knew he had misbehaved.
the memory and resemblance warmed your chest with the nostalgic feeling.
the love you had for your childhood companion and the pain of his loss, still heavy as when it had happened.
grief was a weird, complicated thing.
you sighed and let a soft smile stretch on your lips.
"mango loved everything" you offered the information softly, hoping we'd relax a bit more.
to not be so tense next to you.
"really?" you could hear the hopeful excitement in his voice.
how... adorable.
"...even the fish treats?"
"uhum"
"the freeze-dried chicken?"
"yes." you nod.
"what about the little mango plushie?"
"that one is adorable, very thoughtful of you!"
he smiled, pleased with himself.
he has a nice smile...
"he went as far as to claim the basket as his new bed" you chuckled at the recent memory.
"dragged his blanket and new favourite toy across the apartment to add to the basket"
you could hear him release a deep breath. his shoulders dropping a bit.
"if he's happy, I'm happy" he confessed.
it was something small, but lodged itself in your chest and mind.
you looked at him again. his head was hanging lower, looking at his feet.
still fidgeting with the plastic bags, though.
"the card was sweet too... thank you for your apology." you paused, trying to read him and his reaction. " could've have signed it though" you added.
his reaction told you everything you needed to know.
he raised his hands and buried his head in them.
"oh god, I'm such an idiot" he mumbled against his palms.
you laughed. couldn't hold it in anymore.
"you're alright" you assured him.
he couldn't look at you the rest of the way home. too embarrassed to do so.
but at the same time... felt lighter.
the guilt didn't sit so heavily on his chest anymore. although, there was still some left.
he couldn't believe he finally heard you laugh.
saw your smile.
she smiled at me. ME.
he could safely say progress was made. and was determined to do some more.

granted, you gave it to him for emergencies—like looking after mango whenever you had to be away for more than a day.
somehow, that had evolved into letting himself – and everyone else – in whenever he pleased.
you had gone out to run errands and also to get groceries before the boys arrived.
you had already gotten the house clean and ready and you weren't gone for that long.
apparently, you'd been gone long enough for yeosang, wooyoung, and seonghwa to make themselves at home.
by the time you stepped inside, they were sprawled across your living room, chatting away like they paid rent.
mango barely spared you a glance.
he was too busy stretched across wooyoung's lap, accepting belly rubs like the spoiled little prince he believed himself to be.
"seriously?" you deadpanned.
"he chose me," wooyoung grinned.
"you better not have given him any food," you warned.
the sly smile spreading across wooyoung's face told you everything you needed to know.
"seriously woo, the vet is concerned about his weight"
"nothing wrong with a chunky baby" he coos at mango who only purrs louder and stretches out, exposing even more of his belly much to wooyoung's delight.
you sighed, rolling your eyes.
arguing with wooyoung was futile. if anything, he thrived on it.
"the vet literally put him on a diet" yeosang adds.
seonghwa hurried off the couch and helped you with the groceries.
"nooo he's just... fluuffy" woo insists while nuzzling mango's fur.
"he's short-haired!" you scoff as you follow seonghwa to the kitchen.
"we got your favourite" he grunts as he takes the watermelon to the fridge.
you beamed at him, the two of you chatting as you put away the groceries before unpacking the takeout they'd brought.
you missed this.
having your friends over and chatting like no time has passed, joking around as if you weren't all grown ass adults.
it was always nice seeing them like this – without the pressure and constant exposure that came with being idols in an extremely successful group, just being themselves and relaxing. and for once, you weren't thinking about work and your annoying coworkers.
you got cosy next to yeosang, and he shifted without a word to make room for you to lean against him, while you stretched your legs out and rested them over seonghwa's lap. wooyoung is still holding mango hostage, not letting him run to your side like usual.
not that the cat put that much of a fight, the cheeky little traitor.
for a while you all just focus on your food, relaxing in each other's company while watching whatever movie they put on when they came in.
you giggle when seonghwa tries to tickle you and yeosang laughs with you when seonghwa hits his head on the back of the couch when trying to move away from your foot as you tried to mess with him.
"oh man... i needed this" you exhale between giggles as you take deep breaths to calm down.
"I heard you had a horrible week" seonghwa rests his hands on your legs, playing with the loose fabric.
"the wooorst" you throw your head back against yeosang's chest, he sighs and combs your hair with his fingers.
"my boss has been a bitch lately, giving out assignments left and right and my desk has like a huge amount of paperwork and my email is always full and there's been like, a ton of rumours about what the cause could be and yunae thinks it's because his wife finally found out—"

the whole living room falls silent.
even wooyoung stops cooing at mango, who in turn stops purring. in fact, mango jumps up in wooyoung's lap and runs off to another room.
"no no nooo wait, come back" wooyoung tries to stop mango from leaving.
you could feel yourself getting tense all over again. you stare at the ceiling and ponder if you'll manage to kill him if you stare long enough.
you resort to closing your eyes and taking a deep breath.
"... he's back" you sigh as you open your eyes.
"damn, you weren't kidding" seonghwa comments as he looks up.
you could hear laughter from upstairs.
"that dumbass tripped again" yeosang adds.
"what?" you look at at him and he sighs as he continues to play with your hair.
"that was the shoe rack we keep by the door"
"how can you tell?"
"he's done it so many times, it's not that hard to tell"
you hummed thoughtfully.
you keep getting more and more context lately about what actually goes on upstairs. maybe, just maybe yunho isn't actually going out of his way to annoy you.
"NOOO WHAT THE HELL!"
...scratch that. he is going out of his way to annoy me.

"I thought they were supposed to go to his apartment?"

yeosang's phone pings. he checks it.
"it's yunho" he said after glancing at the screen. he paused before adding, "mingi wanted to use his set-up"

"no you won't!" you chuck a pillow at him and he catches it. laughing like the adorable maniac that he is.

"...to be fair," yeosang mumbled, "he has been... exceptionally loud this week."
"see??? I'm going crazy over here!"
and as if to further prove your point, the two gentle giants upstairs erupted in loud cheers.
"if i kill him, can I come over more often?" wooyoung asked, raising a hand as though waiting to be called on.
you laughed at his idiocy, the sound enough to ease some of the tension from your shoulders.
as if on cue, mango wandered back into the living room, strutting around like he owned the place. he yawned, licked his whiskers, then hopped straight back onto wooyoung's lap, reclaiming his throne for the evening.
"my babyyy," Wooyoung cooed, immediately burying his face in the orange cat's fur.
"unbelievable..." you muttered.
seonghwa glanced between the two before shrugging.
"let them be. it's not often he gets the chance to reunite with his own species."
you stand there. staring at the 4-D on the door, questioning your insanity.
are you really that desperate for extra cash that you'll entertain the idea of meeting your weirdo neighbours and potentially cat sit their cats?
yes. unfortunately the answer is yes.
otherwise you wouldn't be standing there five minutes early. as if you lived across town and had to rush to prevent rush hour.
you rub the bridge of your nose and seriously ponder changing your mind and going home when the door opens widely.
"you came!!"
your eyes widen at the sudden loud voice, and you slowly raise your head to look at the source.

he stared at you with the widest smile you've ever seen on someone. chubby cheeks almost hiding his eyes entirely.
you stood there for a moment, simply staring at each other.
his smile never wavered and it was starting to freak you out a bit.
"... how did you know I was here?"
"I've been staring through the peephole every five minutes"
you squint your eyes at him. dumbfounded.
he's serious, isn't he?
the way he keeps staring at you simply confirms your thought.
"well, can I come in or are we doing this in the hallway?"
you straightened your posture and took a deep breath.
might as well get this over with, right? right.
"oh right, come on in"
you smooth down the inexistent wrinkles in your clothes and follow him inside.
you didn't really bring anything with you except for your house keys and phone.
you live two floors up, after all.
you took off your shoes, and set them aside close to the door and followed han to the living room, where he was already relaxed on the couch.
you looked around and there were cat toys everywhere.
like it was their house and they just let han and minho live in it.
you couldn't see the cats anywhere, and if it wasn't for the amount of cat toys scattered around you'd sincerely question if they even existed.
although, han, in your honest opinion, does look like the type to have random items around that made no sense.
but before you could ask about them, and further question you decision making skills, you hear them.
you look in the direction of the pitter patter of their paws, and see three cats making their way to the living room.
one blackish and grey with stripes, two orange ones – both with white bellies, although one more than the other.
they wandered into the living room as if you weren't there.
you smile to yourself. fair enough.
then, without warning, the most orange one stopped.
turned.
and padded straight toward you.
you can hear han dramatically hold his breathe as the he approaches you, sniffing your ankles. the other two soon follow.
you can practically feel han vibrating, but you remain focused on the cats.
they circle your legs, sniffing and looking at you. bumping their heads on your feet.
you let them do their thing.
you've had cats your whole life, you know how this goes.
you carefully squat down, and slowly give them your hand for them to sniff and soon their purrs get louder, and they headbutt you even more.
you smile at them, as the one with more white fur nibbles at your hand and headbutts it so you can lift it a bit higher, and nuzzles it to encourage you to pet him as you do so.
you giggle and sit down on the floor, legs crossed and the darker one seems to test the idea. he carefully placed one paw on your leg and you instinctively make space, moving your arms out of the way, settling them around them so you could support them.
he meows in what sounds like approval and snuggles between your legs, the others meow as they too try to climb onto your lap.
your smile widens and you laugh to yourself, as you adjust your position and make sure they're all secured and comfortable.
you love cats. so much.
and you definitely missed having cat snuggles.
your chest swells with happiness as they purr on your lap, all trying to get a turn as you pet them.
"....they usually don't do that"
an unfamiliar voice speaks softly next to you, you look up and see him. minho.
he's leaning on the doorframe, from where the cats came, arms loosely crossed over his chest holding a treat bag, watching his cats making themselves comfortable on your lap with an expression you couldn't quite read.
" I knew she was puurfect"
you finally look at han and he's bouncing in the couch, chest puffed out with the widest grin on his face, looking proud of himself.
