I have a baby cousin who's Two Spirit.

Their parents are leftists, open minded, pro LGBTQ+, learned to use the right pronouns (to their face at least) all that jazz.

Their Auntie grew up in a remote area, little old fashioned, doesn't really "get" the non binary thing, and hasn't quite got the hang of the singular 'they' yet. But she tries.

When my cousin got injured and couldn't drive their parents shrugged and told them to quit their job.

Their Auntie drove them to and from work every day until they got their cast off.

sometimes hockey players get little presents, hand made stuff, when they go greet the fans and sign stuff before or after games

and it's always been really cool to get stuff and they appreciated it but it was also never really that personal

actually, on rewatching the hospital scene again something that really gets me is how ilya reverts to calling shane 'hollander' again. the way he says it. christ, he's so visibility shaken and holding on to the very last shreds of his sanity. he calls him hollander to try and put distance back between them because he's been going out of his mind with worry. he loves him so much and he was so scared and he doesn't know what to do with all of these emotions. he looks like he's drowning.

it's almost funny when you contrast it with how shane greets him with the happiest, dopiest, 'ilyaaaa'. meanwhile ilya is trying desperately to be 'rozanov' so that he doesn't collapse.
