Today scenic design is taught and classified into two types… Box Sets & Unit Sets.

I would like to propose additional scenic design classifications (which can be viewed above and are listed below).  Each week I will focus on a different classification.  Now, some of these can be combined and it could even be debated that some of these “classifications” are the same but, by redefining the terms we use as designers, artists and theater practitioners we can further develop what scenic design is, can be and will be as the theater progresses.

On July 7, 1928, the Greatest Thing went on sale in Chillicothe, Missouri – sliced bread.  The bread, produced at the Chillicothe Baking Company, was carved up by a machine invented by Otto Rohwedder of Davenport, Iowa  that was capable of slicing an entire loaf of bread at a single time.  So when someone calls something the Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread – they’re only looking back 87 years.

My grandfather’s mother literally had to SLICE HIS BREAD to make him a sandwich. This simple task was so labor intensive that Otto Rohwedder’s invention sparked a cliche that we now say without any consideration of how frikkin annoying it would be to have to slice your own bread.

I start training for my new job tomorrow and it’s causing me tremendous anxiety because the place is rather far away from my house and kind of in the middle of no where and my car has been acting up, so I’m worried I’ll get lost and my car It might die on my way there and I’ll be late and stranded on the highway. Or if I make it there on, my car won’t work when it’s time to leave. 

This are all imaginary situations, but my brain has created them in depth and they could rationally happen, but I suppose it’s good that I’m more worried about getting there than the actual work I have to do.

As a technical theatre student, I love going to concerts and performances not only to see the beauty created by the musicians or the actors, but the technical design. The technical design of shows is actually very complex, there’s a lot that has to be prepared for a show to be successful. There’s a lot of planning and organization that has to go into the show from the moment you get the script.

Depression isn’t always sadness

It’s also feeling numb at 3am but smiling and laughing with friends at 3pm

It’s also not being able to get out of bed even though you were fine the day before

It’s also not eating because you aren’t hungry or can’t be bothered, but also over eating because you’re bored and feel empty

It’s also loving too hard or not at all

Depression isn’t a constant feeling of sadness, depression can be hidden in happiness.
