As much as some non vegans don’t want to hear it (I know because I was one of them just 2 years ago), the links between social justice and veganism are indivisible. They are connected 100%. Its a natural progression. No one should be hurt or abused or murdered. This included animals. Caring about animal rights does not diminish your passion and devotion to fighting for oppressed humans. It really doesn’t.

Not to mention, animal agriculture harms humans as well. Disproportionately people of color, too

If vegans care so much about human injustice then what’s with all the ableism that plagues vegan circles? Because I’m having a really hard time understanding the “do no harm” slogan when many vegans play doctor and prescribe a vegan diet to sick or disabled people regardless of their situation—maybe the intent was good but it’s still killed or permanently harmed a lot of people.

And I’m having a hard time understanding why using animal products is a POC issue when many vegans lose their shit over cultures that depend on meat, particularly indigenous cultures.

(I’m vegetarian myself, and it still irks me when I see fellow veg*ans do this)

Okay well first I am indigenous so let’s get that out of the way right quick…

It IS an environmental racism issue…factory farms and slaughterhouses are almost always in communities of color and low income communities. The surrounding residents suffer from increased asthma, ear/nose/throat issues, etc. the run off from farms contaminated local groundwater supply, also getting the residents sick. Those residents which are, like I said, low income and POC.

Slaughterhouses frequently employ undocumented people and poor poc to work in some of the most unsafe working conditions in America. Workplace injury is horrifically common, and the pay is not what it should be…at all. And often times these workers are left with no choice but to keep working in these horrible conditions.

…also is there *really* lots of people who vegans have permanently harmed or killed, personally? Lmao I’m like…having a really hard time with this one here lolol
