jeff and abed’s dynamic is so funny in season 6 cuz at that point abed is sort of almost normal about jeff at least comparatively whereas jeff’s mental state is in such a rapid decline that he starts viewing abed as the physical embodiment of greendale & the show they’re on and he convinces himself that abed exists to torment him. all to avoid dealing with the fact that a lot of the reason his life sucks is cause of the consequences of his own actions & his shitty worldview. man this show is so awesome

although i absolutely adore both writing and reading angsty fic about miscommunications born of insecurity, i think canonically neither ilya nor shane is an insecure person. they're actually both very confident, sometimes cocky, and i don't think there are signs that's an act!

shane's problem isn't insecurity, it's shame. he doesn't think he's not good enough, he thinks there is something wrong with him that he has to keep secret at all costs lest everyone find out and punish him for it

ilya's problem isn't insecurity, it's self-hatred. he doesn't think he's not good enough, he thinks there is a deep well of badness inside himself that will ultimately destroy him and the people he loves

what i'm saying is that there are a lot of different ways to feel terrible about yourself and we should branch out!

casual reminder that Troy and Abed have canonically kissed. at the end of the season one episode “Romantic Expressionism” Troy and Abed film a short movie about Kickpuncher, and Abed plays half the characters, including the love interest. it’s a joke that Abed has to do it instead of Britta, and Troy says, “Ok, let’s go film the sex scene.”

now, it’s very possible (and common) to film a sex scene without having sex, but impossible to do so without kissing, ipso facto, Troy and Abed have kissed.

I know obviously the plan wasn’t to make Mac gay in the early seasons but every time I watch back I think of Mac with internalized homophobia so bad he has convinced himself he was straight. Mac getting called slurs and bullied so relentlessly that he builds an impenetrable persona, one he won’t even let slip when he’s by himself, terrified once he lets it fall he will be too exhausted to keep it up. Mac getting so tired of spending almost two decades of his life pretending to be someone he isn’t that he gets sloppy, Mac who can’t even get himself to have sex with women anymore. I know it wasn’t the intention but they made one of the most accurate portrayals of internalized homophobia I’ve ever seen in media.
