WHAT IS A POTION? Potions are spells in liquid form.

ELIXIR: Sweet-flavored liquid to cure ills.

PHILTRE: Water based; uses delicate ingredients.

INFUSION: Water Based; uses delicate ingredients; herbs steeped like tea [not always for consumption].

TINCTURE/TONIC: Alcohol based; highly concentrated; An abstract typically with a base of ethyl alcohol made with dry herbs; decent time is needed for preparation of tinctures/tonics.

SALVE/BALM: Often oil or fat based; thick and creamy; for external application; a healing paste or ointment laced with herbs.

ESSENTIAL OILS: Magical oils made from plant extracts; diluted extracts.

POULTICE: Chopped plant material; often used as a compress; a soft, moist, mass often heated and medicated by use of herbs to relieve aches, pains, and inflammation; can be infused with other potions.
