ethan sighed softly as he wandered around the party, a beer in his hand, making sure that everyone was on their somewhat best behaviour. “hey shit head, put down the vase.” the red head shouted at some dude, death staring him until he put it down before turning back around. “people are idiots.” he said, adjusting the box around him ( click here for ethan’s outfit ) .

kennedy wasn’t really about the whole “abc” aspect of the party, but, nonetheless, attempted to fashion something out of the things she had laying around at home. it didn’t take long for her to come across ethan among all the other partygoers, and she chuckled softly at his comment, “the worst part is, they’re even more idiotic when they’re sober.”

brooke’s face fell as she gave him the rundown. “oh,” he said simply, “i hadn’t realized…” his words fell off, his stare falling back into the floor curiously. that would explain the sombre tone he thought he’d been picking up at westmont. brooke had thought it was a product of how much he didn’t want to be here himself, but as it happened, westmont had its own shit going on too. he cleared his throat, shifting his weight again as the line came to another standstill. “— those cheese fries sound better every minute.” he sighted, in a last ditch attempt to revive the conversation. he offered the girl a small smile. “how far’s that diner exactly?”

kennedy nodded slowly, pulling her lower lip between her teeth. it was insane the kind of things that the students of westmont had to deal with as of recently. she lucked out in comparison to plenty of other students, and she was almost completely healed up from her injuries.

“you’re telling me,” she chuckled softly, grateful that the subject changed to the heavenly french fries. “the diner is a mile or two away, i can definitely drive us if you’d like to join.” kennedy pushed her phone back into her pocket, grinning, “my treat. consider it a welcome to westmont gift.” she hadn’t seen the other around the school, and connected the dots.

brooke instinctively looked passed them, to the shiny new floors that adorned the cafeteria, and nodded at the prospect. “i’m thinking i just suck it up until i get home.” he said with a watery laugh. “at this point we’ll have, what, fifteen minutes left to eat?” brooke asked, eyes darting to his watch. “i didn’t realize earthquakes caused this much of a hassle, i guess.” he said sheepishly. “my first day here was a week after it happened, so i’m a little unclear on the details.”

her gaze did wander and follow his to the new floors, before letting her gaze return to his direction, nodding, “yeah, that’s another option, but i take it you haven’t gotten to try the cheese fries at the diner in town. those are definitely worth missing a class for,” kennedy attempted to talk him into it, her voice taking a playful sing-song tone. when their conversation led to the earthquake, her smile did fade a little, “it was really awful. a lot of people in the hospital, two students died...” her voice fell quiet as she explained it to him, not wanting the nearby students to overhear.

two weeks — that was how long brooke had managed to slip by unnoticed in westmont. he’d kept his head down to and from class, joined basketball, and otherwise went home without saying a word. he was oblivious to who noticed him, or what they said. and frankly, brooke was trying to keep it that way. it was lunch period now, and he’d opted to take the slow route to the cafeteria. it wasn’t exactly the thrill of a lifetime eating a shitty ham and cheese sandwich (regrettably, he forgot to bring something with him) and sitting alone.

the lunch line seemed to move slower than normal though, and after ten minutes had flown by, he sighed and tapped the person ahead of him. “s’cuse me,” he said, trying to bite the jersey accent he choked on, “is the line always like this?” brooke shuffled his feet. “not to be rude or nothin, but i’m seriously wishing i hadn’t forgotten my lunch.”

kennedy flipped some of her dark hair over her shoulder and let out a frustrated sigh, pulling out her phone in attempts to make the time go by even a little bit faster. she had already been in the line for some time, and almost just contemplated harassing a friend to share their lunch with her. she felt a tap on her shoulder and she turned to face him, jumping ever so slightly. things were a little tense with her job, and she couldn’t help how anxious it made her. she almost forgot she was at school, and she was safe, to some extent. she offered him a smile, chuckling softly, “unfortunately, i think that the recent renovations to this shithole kind of ruined the line.” she murmured.  things were still tense after the earthquake, and the long lunch lines just added to it all, since it seemed plenty of other students were ticked off. “i agree, part of me is wanting to ditch and pick up some food.”

“Thank god, it would just be such a horror.” Patrick joked along with her, but then nodded a little bit. “Staying home all day would drive me crazy… so I get it. But here the beds are fucking uncomfortable, so I still pity you a bit.” As she asked about tryouts, he hesitated before glancing down. “Yeah, they were almost done when the accident happened. Most of us are injured though, so I don’t know what they’re going to do.” Hopefully they would just use the results they already had. “No, they start at the end of the month.”

“Do you want me to get something real? I can order a pizza and go get it or something.” He pointed out.

“yeah these beds aren’t exactly the comfiest.” she mentioned, shrugging and trying to relax back into the bed, “that really sucks, i’m sorry pat.” she murmured, reaching out to place her hand over his for a moment or two. “you’ll heal up just in time if you make sure to relax and take care of yourself, i promise,” kennedy mentioned, trying to make him feel a little bit better despite the awful situation.

“pizza sounds amazing right about now, thanks” she smiled.

kennedy smiled sheepishly, “i believe that, but i bet it’ll fly by before you know it.” she nudged his arm gently, “what else is new with you?”

emily gave her a soft smile in response, but a fake one. she was good at it. her eye followed kennedy as she slid the applicator over her lips. “i definitely feel better. i had a concussion. how about you?”

kennedy nodded, looking over at emily, “man, that sucks, i’m glad you’re feeling better.” she mentioned, “i’ve been hanging in there, i have a few broken ribs and a punctured lung. they’re still healing, it just kind of sucks because i just have to wait around and be lazy until they heal.” kennedy chuckled. maybe she was starting to accept it?

kennedy heard his voice as she was digging through her locker to switch out her books in her bookbag. she was still healing from her injury, and it just sucked that it took so much time. she looked over at him and smiled sheepishly, shrugging, “i’ve been hanging in there, i guess.” she paused, starting to zip her bag closed, “how are you doing?”

“I’ve you know… I’ve been better, at least I’m not all bruised and torn up though.” Mason nodded, he leaned on the lockers because well why stand. “I feel like, I haven’t talked to you in a hot minute, especially about your side gig.”

Kennedy shut her locker so she could lean against it, matching his stance and looking up at him. “Your knee is doing better?” She asked, smiling softly. “Yeah, it has been a minute,” Kennedy chuckled, “I actually can’t drive yet, doctor’s orders. Mikey has been driving me here, or my dad does it if he can’t.”

kennedy was glad the subject changed, she didn’t want to dwell on it anymore, and she was just so happy to have some company. “thanks, pat. you’re the absolute best,” she said with a gentle smile, “i think i’ll be back in school whenever they decide to open back up. i probably won’t be able to do too much, they want me to lay low and relax so i’ll heal.” she looked over at him, “how long are you going to have that cast on?”

“maybe we should just make sure to start locking doors.” she chuckled, biting her lip.

Patrick rolled his eyes at her words. He was most certainly not the best… but she wasn’t the one to talk about that with. Then again, there wasn’t really anyone he could talk about that with. “Oh, good. You won’t miss many classes then.” He usually found that if a couple classes were missed, it was easy to catch up - but if she wasn’t at class because she didn’t feel well enough, it would be hard to learn the material herself. “Four to six weeks. I’m hoping four, that’s when the season starts.” And if he couldn’t play the beginning of the season well, he could lose his scholarship. 

“That’s a good point.” He said, matching her laugh and grinning at her. “Have you eaten lunch yet?”

“Yeah, good thing I won’t miss classes, I’d be devastated,” she teased sarcastically. “Although, it will be pretty nice to go back and feel like a normal teenager again. I’ll probably go stir crazy if they made me stay home. Let alone here.” Kennedy murmured. When he mentioned the baseball season starting up, she nodded, “Yeah, I really hope you’ll be able to play. Have tryouts already happened? Are you missing any practices yet?” She hated to make him stress about it, but she knew baseball was important to him.

“Yeah, I tried.” She laughed softly, nodding towards the tray on her bedside table, “I don’t know how they get away with calling this shit food, it’s hardly edible.”

her blue eyes studied the furry little creature and her soft smile never faltered, “really? i never thought they’d be so dangerous. they always seem so much more scared of us than we are of them.” kennedy chuckled, “i suppose you want to go put it in the woods over there before it attacks you, right?” even though her voice took a playful tone, she really didn’t want to experience the true nature of the cute little creature.

“oh come on, baths are relaxing, you not only probably need one, but you deserve one for such heroic acts.” kennedy smiled, nodding a little, “yeah, that sounds good to me,” she just hoped her burner phone wouldn’t ring in the time leading up to friday. she never really knew.

        “ Every wild animal is dangerous, specially the ones that aren’t vaccinated ”, he points out, “ but they are always more scared than we are of them… that doesn’t mean they won’t take their chance to attack us; that’s why nature doesn’t have to be feared, just respected ”, Zach explains with a little smile. “ No, I will take it home with me. The little thing is still in shock and there are too many cars here. I will let it pass the night at my place and then I will bring it back ”, he commented, “ besides, it would be wise to treat this bite as well ”, he commented showing the wound on his finger.

Zach drops a shy chuckle and shrugs, never too used to compliments, but HIGHLY a fan of them. “ Alright, but if you’re going to my place, I just need you to promise me something ”.

Kennedy nodded, offering a small smile as he explained, “Absolutely, I don’t know that I would’ve forgiven myself for hitting this little guy if I had,” She reflexively always tried to brake for animals, she had a dog growing up that she missed dearly, and couldn’t imagine losing one to a car accident. “Just promise me you’ll be careful. I don’t want it to bite you again.” She said with a soft giggle, despite being completely serious. Her hand reached out to take his hand, gently examining the bite on his finger, “It should be easy to take care of this one, luckily.” She had become first-aid savvy, especially recently.

She released his hand, letting her gaze meet his once again and nodded, “Let’s hear it.”

Patrick nodded a little bit at her words, sighing and glancing away for a moment. He didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable telling him - so he decided he wasn’t going to press that part of it any further. “I can definitely provide some company. Until school goes back in session, anyway… but hopefully you’ll be back by then.” The date of when they were supposed to return hadn’t yet been announced, but he was planning on taking it easy for as long as he could. Hopefully that would help his arm heal quickly, before the baseball season would start.

“We just need to think of places where we can’t be interrupted.” He joked, grinning. “Any ideas?”

Surprise - Kennedy and Sebastian

Sebastian had gone to the bakery and bought some doughnuts and bagels for him and Kennedy. Everyone had suffered in some way lately and he just wanted to make the people he cared about feel better. she finally got home from the hospital, but unfortunately was limited to getting a lot of rest. so no driving, no strenuous activity, and ultimately, no fun. being cooped up at the house after being cooped up in the hospital wasn’t the best feeling, but it was the first time she had a break from her job. when her doorbell rang, she slowly got up from the couch, then approached the door. initially, she was a little confused, but a bright smile spread across her lips, “you’re the sweetest!” she exclaimed, gently pulling him into a hug.
