Intro post for kennedyandherbugs!

Hi! My name is Kennedy (she/her/any??), I am 20 years old, and here are some need-to-knows about my blog!

My blog is primarily going to be about what I call my three B’s. As an autistic girl, I have three special interests that all begin with the same letter!

🪲BUGS: This is the biggest one! I am by no means an expert on entomology. I know a decent amount about the biology of bugs, but I find much greater joy in learning their body language and temperaments so I can handle them properly and teach others that bugs are wonderful and beautiful! You just have to know how to respect them by knowing them. My favorite bug is a cicada but in recent months I have fallen in love with the praying mantis. I am forcing myself to stop this paragraph now otherwise this post will be too long!

🎸THE BEATLES: Again, another topic where I am not hyperfixated in the traditional sense. I couldn’t tell you every fact about the Beatles. I only know Paul McCartney’s birthday because it is the day before mine! I just know every Beatles song and it is my comfort music. I also love collecting Beatles tshirts! I have around 30 now.

✝️THE BIBLE: As Tumblr is a community full of groups that have been oppressed by the church, I recognize that having this special interest can be a turn-off. I want to be very clear: I am a queer woman. I believe that Jesus commands of us to be radical in our fight for justice for the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, victims of violence in other countries, and those in poverty. I have so much Biblical knowledge and so much love for Jesus, I do not want those facts to be taken as hatred or anything else. If you have any questions about my faith and what it means for me, please message me. I won’t ever try to convert anyone via post or DM, I will simply answer questions that anyone may have. Please don’t let the actions of the loudest Christians define me.

Every time a girl misinterprets Lolita 10 angels lose their wings… it’s one of my fav books because it’s so well written but people often mistake Humbert’s role in a sense… you’re meant to read in the lines and see that he is SICK in the head. From the beginning it’s quite easy to see that he is an unreliable narrator, and the author adds traits to him that makes the reader empathize with him, but he is just a well written villain.

I think too, that the movie adaptations of Lolita helped push the romanticization of the story because they had to cut out certain literary devices that exposed Humbert’s insanity for run-time purposes.

Why I refer to the Bible as a special interest of mine and not just my faith.

When I tell people that the Bible is one of my special interests, I’m often asked “Doesn’t that just make you a Christian?”

Here is the difference! My faith lies in the fact that I believe the Bible is the Word of God and that Jesus is my savior. I pray and read my Bible for guidance and hope.

My special interest is not Jesus and it isn’t necessarily even theology. I just am really fascinated by the Bible itself, spiritual beliefs aside. I love reading the Old Testament from an analytical and historical perspective. I have three Bibles so I can compare translations. I am able to retain obscure Biblical facts.

I really struggle to read my Bible when I need it spiritually. The practice of my faith is something I am not great at. But if you sit me down in front of the Old Testament with the correct pens (I AM VERY SPECIFIC ABOUT MY PENS!), I could sit for hours reading and researching.
