How to become a Witch
- probably educate yourself on what witchcraft is and the different ways of practicing
- call yourself a witch
- stare at the moon a lot (most important step)
✨🌱 Healing Herb-Infused Oil🌱✨
I made this oil for tattoo aftercare, but it would be great any time your skin needs some extra healing. It’s best to start and end this on a full moon to get all that great healing and abundant energy in there. Things you’ll need:
- Glass jar, any size (I used a 500ml/half quart) - Apricot kernel oil (or another skin-loving carrier oil like grapeseed, olive, or jojoba) - Shea butter - Herb blend of the following (all dried), in somewhat equal proportions, or whatever proportions you feel you need. Yarrow Leaf and Flower, Plantain leaf, comfrey leaf, rose petals, Calendula petals, White willow bark, St. John’s wort leaf and flower, Skullcap leaf, Marshmallow leaf, Stinging Nettles. - A double boiler or pot with a lid.
How to: - Fill a glass jar, any size (I used a 500ml/half quart) about ¾ full of your herb blend. - Cover the herbs with your carrier oil by about 1″, or just to the top of the jar, leaving a little space so you can shake it up. - Add little bit of shea butter, (I did about 1 tbsp) - Now you have a couple options. You can either dump everything into a double boiler, put a lid on it, and heat it on low for a few hours. Afterwards, put it back in the jar and put a lid on it, tight. Or you can put a lid on the jar, and place that in a large pot of water, (put a washcloth or rack under the jar to keep it from being in direct contact with the bottom of the pot.) Cover the pot and simmer it on low for a few hours. This will melt the shea butter and kickstart the herbs infusing into the oil. - Then put it somewhere out of direct sunlight, where you’ll see it every day, and let it infuse for at least 4 weeks. I did 8. - Shake it up every time you remember to. Focus on your intent every time you do this and put your energy in there. - After you infusion is ready, strain it through the muslin or cotton, and bottle it up! Don’t forget to label and date it! List the ingredients you used and when you made it. Use this any time you feel that your energy (or your skin) needs some healing, soothing and a little pain relief. You could also use this to anoint candles, in a salve or solid lotion bar! ✨To support me: Get tarot reading | Buy me a coffee | Donate to my Education ✨ Help Paul get MS treatment
@jonathon-bellehaven said: Would this not cause slight premature fading in the tattoo coloration? I’m familiar with the uses of all of the herbs and carrier oils in this recipe, as I used to make my own all-natural bath and body products including salves. However I’ve never used them on fresh tattoos out of concern of the herbs and oils possibly having a similar fading effect as petroleum based products like Neosporin. Nope! Natural (carrier) oils don’t keep the skin from breathing. Plus, you should only start moisturizing your tattoo after 2-3 days, so that the wounds have a chance to seal a bit. So it’s not so much that petroleum fades tattoos, but that it keeps the wounds open by not allowing air in and so the ink doesn’t heal into the skin as it should. The herbs that I used also really support speedy healing and cell turnover. I’m actually super surprised with how fast this tattoo of mine is healing!
Broke Witch Tips
For those who are either broke and struggling to fund materials for your craft, those who cannot be seen purchasing items from ‘occult’ stores, or simply those who would like a cost-friendly alternative.
1. Consider the mundane stores for most staple goods such as candles or herbs.
2. Walmart and dollar stores tend to be very good in terms of pricing on chargers (plates to burn things on), spices, herbs, candles and holders, and so on. You can equip your altar nicely for under $30 if you’re starting from scratch!
3. Dried herbs are just as good as fresh herbs.
4. In many groceries, you can get a single packet of herbs that’s good for a couple spells or a few dishes for around $0.60
5. If you can, buy in bulk.
7. If you live with family, there’s nothing to say that you can’t grab some herbs or spices out of the kitchen to use in your craft once in a while.
8. If you need to bury something, or leave it out in nature, or even have a spell ‘jar’ recipe that won’t contain liquid and/or won’t be needed for a long period of time, consider using empty toilet paper rolls! Simply fold the top end down, tape it together, fill, and fold and tape the bottom shut as well.
9. Thrift stores are amazing. Just sayin’. Be sure to cleanse whatever you do buy from there, though.
10. While a gemstone pendant may be beautiful and awesome, in a pinch you can make do with any necklace you have, or even a stone or weight tied to a string.
11. ANY refillable bottle can be a spell jar if you want it to be! E.g. soda bottles, jam jars, peanut butter jars, juice bottles, iced coffee bottles, etc.
12. Tealights or birthday candles can often be used in place of real candles, whether for time or cost purposes.
13. Some VERY effective tools are almost free, such as moon, sun, river, or storm water!
14. If you make offerings to any entities, they don’t always have to be expensive and storebought! Interesting rocks, feathers, or even wild flowers you picked are good ‘free’ options. Generally speaking, unless the entity in question has demanded a certain thing, the intent and thoughts behind your offering matters as much as, or even more than, the actual offering.
15. In a pinch, a white candle may be substituted for any other color.
16. Fabric stores/fabric departments tend to have ‘fat quarters’ or remnants that are sold WAY below regular yard pricing. Depending on the size you can use this for an altar cloth, to make a poppet or satchet, etc.
17. Sigils are free!
18. Consider energy work, such as Law of Attraction, meditation, visualization, and astral travel.
19. Use household items! Unless specified by a ritual of sorts, you don’t ‘need’ to have a dedicated pestle and mortar - if using herbs, any bowl and maybe a spoon or bottle of nailpolish would do. If using non food safe items, just use a bowl that you won’t be using for actual food.
20. Unless otherwise specified, you don’t ‘need’ a special knife or implement just to cut up things in a ritual!
21. You can make/print your own tarot cards! They may not be ‘perfect’ and may wear out faster than purchased cards, but you can draw your own cards on index cards or blank paper.
22. If you aren’t creative, you can ‘read’ playing cards similar to tarot cards.
23. A poppet can be almost anything! Unless specified, you can sew together pieces of cloth into a vaguely humanoid shape, you can use clay, a doll, or a wooden peg named for the person if you’re in a pinch.
24. If you use Florida Water, there are recipes out there to make your own at home. You simply need alcohol, some herbs, and some flowers.
25. With regards to using ribbon, you can also use string or yarn to tie something or bind something.
26. Something someone has suggested - clean out your old empty nailpolish bottles and use them for tiny spell bottles!
27. A tiny travel altar can fit into a mint tin, or a cookie tin if you want something slightly larger.
28. Essential oils and incense can give your room a nice scent, and can be used to cleanse your space.
29. Music can also be used to cleanse your space!
30. For those of you that can’t be seen entering an occult store, or having packages arrive from certain websites - ‘head shops’ and Spencers often carry white sage and some crystals.
31. For those who can’t have a physical grimoire/book of shadows/spell book, Google drive, tumblr, and Pinterest are all good options.
32. If you can’t get/can’t afford a statue of a deity or entity, you can also print out an image of them from online, or you can draw your own.
33. Tea bags can often have ALL the herbs and spices you need, and may even be cheaper than purchasing herbs separately.
34. Some herbs and plants can be ‘pirated’ e.g. can be grown from a sprig plucked the right way.
35. You can make your own wand, you don’t ‘need’ to purchase one. There are tutorials online that can help you with this!
36. You can use sea shells or dice for divination!
37. Runes can be painted/written onto coins, stones, or even bits of paper if you’re in a tight spot.
38. If you want an indoor spice/herb garden and can’t afford planters, get creative. You can use empty cans, soda cans or milk jugs cut down, or even plastic containers that have lost their lids.
39. You can enchant daily objects to help you along the way.
40. ANY notebook can hold a grimoire or book of spells!

Resources for Spirit Work
Please note - though I myself am not a spirit worker, I’ve done enough research and seen enough of other people’s personal stories to say this: spirit work is not always light and fluffy and happy (obviously it can be, but not all the time). Spirits are not all willing to work with you peacefully - some are even downright rude or aggressive. It can be dangerous, and there are risks of getting involved with other entities not of this world. Make sure you know what you are getting into completely and are well prepared before engaging. Read and practice at your own discretion.

Samhain Art Magic Ideas
Hey guys! The veil is thinning and Samhain is nearly upon us. If you’re looking for some fun ways to work some art magic into your holiday this year give some of these ideas a try or use them to inspire a whole new thing!
Face/Body Paint
There’s lots of this art magic fun to be found at fall festivals and other seasonal gatherings for kids but we can also use it to connect with the Fae by incorporating imagery of things like butterflies or bells, maybe we just want to better connect to the energy of the season by painting pumpkins and leaves and other symbols of the shifting world around us. We could also honor a specific deity by using our bodies as the offering and painting symbols/imagery that is associated with them. It could be as simple as painting a key for Hekate, a simple sigil, or maybe you want to go all out and do an entire costume and fully embody your vision/concept of that deity!
Power Color
Many witches talk about how they can feel themselves coming into their own at this time of year and that is a powerful thing to be able to channel and direct for magical purposes. We each have a power color (which can change, evolve, or be added to) that really resonates with us and brings out that confident and powerful version of ourselves. Find your power color and work with it this season to really make the most of this liminal time between the spiritual world and the material. (I would be happy to help you discover your power color through a Color Cast reading. Space is limited so DM with your request)
Rainbow Meal Plan
“We know that the most vibrantly colored fruits and vegetables have the most nutrition,” says Karin Hosenfeld, RD, LD, a dietitian in private practice in Dallas. "Eating an array of colors just ensures that you get the benefits of all of them.“
Nutritionists and Dietitians are seeing the health benefits of eating a colorful meal. Red, Purple, and Blue fruits and veggies get their color from anthocyanins. These foods are powerful antioxidants, high in essential nutrients, and may be particularly important for people managing diabetes or who are at high risk of heart disease. Learn more about eating colorfully at the Food Revolution Network. By combining our knowledge of color, seasonal foods, and kitchen magic we’re sure to be whipping up some powerful dishes this season!
Sigil O’ Lanterns
Jack o’ Lanterns have definitely evolved with the times and people are making crazy and awesome designs in pumpkins and lanterns of all sorts this time of year. Use this opportunity to bring some magic to your home by carving sigils into your decorations. Maybe you want to manifest some personal power, carve your elemental symbol, your zodiac, or name sigil. Take it back to the origin of this tradition and carve wards or protection symbols for your home. The possibilities are endless, lighting the candle inside charges and manifests that magic, and your front porch looks incredible!
Faerie Staycation Space
If you work with the Fae, or are wanting to try it this season, try welcoming them into your space by creating a door or a little house to stay in. Building these out of found objects, cardboard, renovating old doll houses, or making an edible home like a gingerbread house (faeries love a sweet treat) can be a fun activity to do by yourself, as a party with friends, or as a family with kids!
*Do take precautions when working with faeries, you don’t want them playing nasty tricks in your house*
Ritual Color Bathing
I’ve talked about color bathing before but it deserves mentioning again for special holidays. Samhain is often seen as the Witch’s New Year and as such ritual cleansing and bathing can be an important part of your celebration. Add some art and color magic to your bath this year by making your own bath bombs, or dropping some color tabs into your bath water that correspond with your intent or your power color. (Walmart, Target, Amazon)
I hope this inspires you to get magically creative and I’d love to hear what your plans and ideas are for Samhain this year! What are my artsy witches up to this season?
I love these tips! Especially the faery one
goodnight and don’t worry about any mistakes you made today. come up with tangible ways to do better next time, and keep your head up.
100 ways to incorporate magick in your daily life.
I understand that these are not exactly all witchy but this is about intergreting your everyday life in your practice and appreciating as well as finding magick in the most mundane and simple things that we often miss out on. ♡
1. When you wake up, before grabbing your phone or getting out of bed, take a few seconds to breathe, and stretch all your limbs.
2. Say ‘’thank you’’ to your god/goddess/deity, or simply to acknowledge how lucky you are to live another day.
3. Open the window regardless of the weather and take a big breath of fresh air. This will not only cleanse the room but also your body.
4. If it’s raining outside or snowing, take a minute to admire the beauty of it.
5. Pick wildflowers (please don’t pick any endangered flowers or toxic ones, do your research).
6. Dry said wildflowers and put them in your Book of Shadows or any book or journal you are using.
7. Go for a walk in nature during the day and during the night as well.

A Long List of Ways to Spiritually Protect Yourself
(Updated from this old list here.)
Shielding is a practice entirely built on your intention–if you want an eternal shield, you can have it. If you believe in your shield, it will be there. There are many ways that are incredibly powerful with just the slightest trust and a little bit of practice. As soon as possible, start to practice shielding and methods of spiritual protection, since practice, along with your intention, will create the most powerful shields.
Also, you can never shield to much. It’s amazing and very empowering to have layer upon layer of shielding, and the energy and time you put into shielding will really save you a lot of energy and time in the future. Even just walking around, through crowds, cities, etc, drains your energy–negative energy is everywhere, and consciously seeking only the energy for your best and highest good will really, truly, and completely empower you.
You can shield from anything and everything, just make sure to allow in things for your “best and highest interest/good.” ShCast every shield with this affirmation. This allows what people would consider “negative” emotions to still come through, so you can live a balanced life, since not all emotions that are considered negative actually are. This affirmation effectively only allows things that raise or balance your vibration, and help you to spiritually evolve. It won’t cut you off from anything necessary. Shields themselves will never overwhelm or smother you, since they are meant solely for your needs and will always let in positive energy. Here are some simple methods to begin shielding, but you can always adopt them with your own needs and intentions! Do what works for you, just make sure to shield when practicing spirit or energy work of any sort.
Robe of White Light:
Focus for a moment on calming yourself, and once you have a clear mind, imagine a nice fluffy robe around you (I always imagine one like in the game Journey) made of white and protective light. This is the universe’s energy, and nothing ill can penetrate it once it is surrounding you.
It is recommended to repeat once or twice a day to maintain the shielding.
You can also use the affirmation of “I call upon a robe of loving and protective white light, knowing that it will protect me from all energy not in my highest interest. This robe protects me with the power of the Universe/Source/God.”
Guardian Protection:
Ask your guardian spirits (either aloud or through your mind) to protect you.
Always command that the guardians who help that they “come in light.” And if not, say they must leave. You don’t even have to know their name, but if they aren’t here to help, then they shouldn’t be around you. So just command this and all with ill intentions will be forced to leave.
Call on them for a need by need basis.
Auric Hardening:
Imagine your aura (trust whatever color you see in your mind’s eye), and then imagine it hardening, like it’s calcifying around you. It can get as hard as a rock, or like armor.
This can sometimes push away any energy exchanges, so you could feel more distant from positive interactions too. So, it’s best used when a threat is around
Usually lasts between 4 hours-2 days, depending on the strength of your intention.
Sigil warding:
Draw with a pen, marker, or with the tip of your finger (if you don’t need visible lines) a sigil with the intention of protecting yourself. A sigil is most basically an energetic line (or series of them) with an intention. The lines hold the energy and magnify the intention.
Here are examples

Shielding with Intention and the Universe:
Calm yourself with a short breathing meditation, then focus on what you intend to shield-yourself, another, or a place.
Imagine casting a ball of light towards the designated target, with the intention of allowing the Universe/Source to channel through you and shield whatever you intend to.
Just watch and observe as the shield is built, knowing that it is fully fueled by the energy of the Universe and will stay there, and stay strong, until the shield is released consciously by you.
You can specify this shield for certain purposes, like to only keep a spirit out, or to keep all negative spirits out.
Reiki Shielding and Protection:
In Usui Reiki, there is a technique your Reiki Masters should have taught you about warding and cleansing the room in white light. Channel Reiki energy to do this.
If you are attuned to Reiki II, you should know the 1st symbol and that it can be used to stop all energy that is not in your highest good from coming towards you, working as an effective shield when the symbol is called on.
You need to be properly attuned to Reiki for this.
Bubble shielding:
Similar to the white light or shielding with intention, but focusing on making and empowering a bubble around you.
Replenish this as often as possible, since this is dependent on your own care.
Can be in an oval or a sphere shape. If this is hard to get a hang of, then try just fitting it a couple inches away from your body, similar to auric hardening.
Waterfall shielding:
A bubble shield with the intention of existing on top of an underneath bubble shield.
Focus on this shield and set the intention of having it move around like a waterfall. This way, someone sending negative energy has a very small chance of hitting the same place twice.
Elemental shielding:
All of these are built with a specific intention and visualization of the shield. Time around such element used will strengthen the shield, or a conscious meditation to draw the energy towards you and the shield.
Fire shield: Envision burning fire, that will destroy all negative energy/energy not for your highest good, when it tries to enter your energetic space.
Water shield: Similar to the waterfall shield, but with the visual of actual water flowing that can wash away all negative debris or toxicity clinging to any form of bubble shield underneath it.
Earth shielding: This one can block off positive energy too, since it works more like a layer of earth around the person. Though, it can also be envisioned to only grow/manifest around you in times of need or when you’re being attacked or faced with negative energy. It can also block your third eye from seeing outside. Earth shielding can also work as a means of grounding you, which doesn’t have negative effects (as long as you don’t neglect your upper chakras). If you ground yourself to the earth, and your are harmed or shaken by negative energy, you can replenish your energy from the earth.
Air shielding: Envision a fast current of air around you that sweeps away all negative energy or malevolent beings.
Light shielding: A bright white light that totally purifies all energy that contacts it, similar to the robe of white light. Different colored lights can work too, but they all have specific purposes that you should research first.
Ether shielding: Sometimes this works like a portal, transporting all malevolent energy to another place in the universe. Just make sure to set the intention that things in your best and highest interest aren’t affected, and that the travel won’t severely harm anyone who is transported by the portal (since sometimes negative energy can come from just someone in a bad mood).
Chaos shielding: Not always considered an element, but with the idea of scattering any negative energy–the sudden increase in entropy raises the vibration to something more positive.
Shadow and smoke shielding: Imagining either element around you, mostly for cloaking and making your energy less obvious. This is great for astral projection and spiritual travel when you don’t want to be noticed. You can infuse the energy with an intention of how you want to be perceived, like if a threat comes, then you can suddenly raise this shield and make the smoke cause you to seem dangerous, scaring off the opponent.
Halo shielding:
Imagine a series of halos that spin quickly around you, moving to knock away negative energy if it approaches your space. This can be inside or outside of a bubble or light based shield.
Protection charms and enchanted objects:
Work made by you, when you have a lot of experience, in creating a sigil charm or enchanted object meant for protection. This can also be from someone who has passed down a family protection amulet (just research it and bathe it in light to clear any possible negative energy on it), or from an experienced energy worker making protection amulets, charms, or objects.
Some are religiously charged, like crosses, pentagrams, etc. If this matches your belief, your belief will empower it.
oh cinnamon you powerful spice, give me your energy and make this day nice ☆
she whispers to her coffee maker as she waits for her cinnamon coffee
no shit this “enchantment” worked wonders? i haven’t talked in real life THIS much in a whole fucking while.. i almost thought i was annoying but our friends said it’s delightful to finally hear me talk more XD
Samhain Witch Tips - 🎃 Pumpkins 🎃
Carving pumpkins is definitely not just for little kids. Carve sigils, spells, significant imagery, or anything you want into your pumpkin and fill it with your intention with each cut.
If you’re a closeted witch, carve your witchy stuff (sigils, spells etc) into the inside of the pumpkin, and make the outside just a fun design.
Anoint your tea light or votive candle with herbs and oils to match your intention for the season or year. I personally like to make a couple of these and have them lit while I carve as well as use them in the pumpkin/jack-o-lantern.
Before setting your candle into your pumpkin, sprinkle the insides with herbs that match your intentions and maybe some that have some anti-microbial action as well to help your pumpkin last longer before rotting. Cinnamon and cloves are great for this. The warmth from your candle will release your intentions as well as a lovely scent.
If you want to really absorb all the lovely goodness of the work you’ve put into carving this pumpkin, buy a pie pumpkin (sometimes called sugar pumpkin) carve it the night or day before your Samhain celebration, only use safe, culinary herbs inside and keep an unscented candle lit in it (make sure you only use either a soy or beeswax candle with a cotton, unleaded wick,) and the next day you can roast it in the oven (350*F for about an hour usually does it, or until it’s soft enough to easily sink a fork into) And then share this lovely squash with your spirit friends, witchy friends, family etc at your Samhain meal.
Pumpkins and all other winter squash actually keep for a very long time if stored properly. So you can buy a bunch from a farmers market now while they’re in season. Give them a rinse in a diluted bleach and water solution to kill off any mold spores that might cause premature rotting. Then make them part of your Samhain decor to imbue them with your good intentions and then store them in a garage or somewhere else that stays between 50-60*F and you’ll have delicious, enchanted squash all season long! I’ve had some last for up to 4 months before.
Enjoy this lovely seasonal fruit and may it nourish you all season long
