Kent still had to remember how to feel again after he had spent so much time on his own in the tower of fate, wearing the helmet all the time and unable to feel anything. When the woman was yelling at him, he didn’t quite understand why she was upset—he felt as though he had only stated a fact, though perhaps telling her that he had only tripped over her dog because it was the size of a rat might have been a little inconsiderate.
To say Diana’s office was hectic would be an understatement. Being the head curator of antiquities at the Metropolist Museum tended to be busy, though she never did mind the rush. In fact, the Amazon preferred a busy work day as opposed to one that left her feeling unproductive. There had been a shipment earlier that day of things to be displayed, Diana’s job mostly consisting of double checking to make sure everything is handled properly and sorted into the right exhibits. For the first time in what felt like all day, she was finally table to take a seat at her paperwork riddled desk, giving her a moment to breathe. There’s a quiet knock against the door of her office and quickly she’s turning to face the visitor, expression warming once she realizes who had joined her. “What a nice surprise,” she says fondly, shuffling the paperwork to set it aside. “To what do I owe this pleasure?”
Kent paused for a moment before pressing a warm smile across his features. He still felt disoriented from wearing the helmet for so long—he was still gaining some control over his emotions again, which always flooded back to him and then came in waves after the helmet had suppressed them. He took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “How are you, Diana?” he asked, tilting his head. Thankfully, he was the only Kent in the multiverse—some cosmic deities had made sure of that—and so he knew that no matter which Diana this might be, he knew her, not anyone else. “I was wondering if you were on this earth as well.”
TED PLACES DOWN the papers he was looking at, business related of course since he was running Kord Industries on this earth too. “What can I help you with?”
“Are you supposed to be alive in this timeline?” he asked abruptly. Kent was never known for being delicate. “You’re dead in mine.”

>>so kent grew up with just his father, sven, who was an archaeologist way back when at the turn of the 20th century
>>when he was twelve, his father took him to egypt on a dig with him but when they went into the pyramid they awakened this ancient immortal being from another planet and it killed sven
>>kent ended up being trained and raised by him for years until he was deemed ready, and he was given the helmet of fate, the cloak of destiny, and the amulet of anubis and went out to fight evil
>>he went on to end many threats, and he was one of the founding members of the justice society of america, a precursor to the justice league, but he was often left feeling unfulfilled, even after he got married to his wife inza and tried settling down
>>so, for a while he stopped being doctor fate and became a doctor in the 1960s
>>however, because of his powers, he didn’t age, and inza did. he offered to keep her alive, but she told him that she didn’t want it, and she died in the 80s
>>that was when he became doctor fate again, and he did a lot of work with the justice league as well as on his own because he’s a weirdo who doesn’t know how to work in a team (insert jughead’s im a weirdo speech)
>>he has always hopped between earths and times—as doctor fate, he has the ability to also go to a realm beyond time and space and time, so he has been able to go just about everywhere
>>the helmet of fate stops him from feeling emotions, and while he is very calm and collected, he always feels as if there’s something missing from his life. he just doesn’t know what it is.
