what i mean: mitski's so-called "fans" have been so obnoxious and rude during this tour. she's come back to touring after performing her "last show indefinitely" years ago with an album whose most popular song is about feeling commodified and burnt out by the music industry only to be met with audience members screaming inappropriate things at her and criticizing and ignoring her perfectly reasonable request to not view her entire performance through their cell phones. this completely ruins the experience of not only the people who actually know concert etiquette and paid good money to enjoy the concert, but mitski herself. it's so awful how all she's done is express the desire to actually connect with her audience in these shows and has gotten treated in such a dehumanizing way in return. something has to change or so many people will be miserable during this tour

what i say: if i hear someone call mitski "mommy" at my concert im driving a bus into a government building

it's hard to come to terms with the fact that you can't do things that you used to be able to do. I'll be honest, it feels like you're losing control of your life. it can feel very isolating and hopeless. its scary and overwhelming, and it's so hard to deal with.

the “ok but you do produce content though”/“you ARE a content creator”/“you can’t tell me how to consume content” responses to mitskis tweets are so depressing. the reduction of art to “content” and artists to “content creators” in recent years and the devolution of sharing art online into hundreds and hundreds of posts on how to create content to play algorithms to attract the most consumers who only see you as a creator of content vs a real person is so so draining.

an artist explaining how her performances now feel like content to be consumed rather than an experience to be shared being met with “well you are content to be consumed, actually” highlights too many things to be unpacked in one post - it’s dehumanizing, it’s entitlement, it’s a disconnect from the meaning of the art being created, it’s a representation of how soulless and voided sharing art has become in a modern capitalist society
