Kevin was quite the complex character. If his anxiously stressed out attitude wasn’t enough already, the clipped words he chose had Junhyung wondering just what kind of life had the other experienced to be so awkward with social interaction. Of course, meeting a new dorm roommate in such a way was never exciting for the majority, he wouldn’t be around that much to be a bother though. Maybe the male would like it more that way. “Well family or not, you are here and friends can be easily made? I know I probably sound old and probably saying everything, but what you want to hear. Don’t push people out. It’s not good for you or others who might need the support. Besides having someone around can be soothing to the soul. Also in case you were wondering, I sound old, because I am. So my advice is very seasoned okay?” The elf didn’t like feeling like he was forcing someone into listening to him, especially someone he hardly knew.
However, he felt responsible as the Terra Dormitory Head to help those under his care and it was his own roommate no doubt. The elf really wasn’t around, but he had a feeling he might have to make extra stops to make sure Kevin was still alive and breathing. Junhyung ended up staring at the male with wide eyes, hands at his side and open as if he were showing he meant no harm. He didn’t really understand why the other seemed so panicked and fidgety. It had been quite a long time since he had dealt with someone so flighty. “I’ll get you a handbook then, I have extras in my desk. Really it’s not about owing you anything, but legit this is my job, so I’m not going out of my way to be nice. Just doing what I would for any new person.” It seemed like being too easy going was going to send the other into a panic attack, so maybe he shouldn’t be so helpful? Such a confusing person.
“Ahh don’t worry about it, I have tons of replacements. Besides things break and get replaced all the time.” It was only material culture after all, and not that important anyways. Special items were generally kept out of the way. “Ah a job. Well they post jobs listings on the schools webpage as well as on bulletin boards in the hallways of the classrooms. Those tend to be subject related, so maybe you can find an afterschool job under a professor?” Some liked to have students help out, especially with the animals that needed to be cared for on campus.
Kevin decided to ignore him. In a sense. Mostly, the idea of talking about friendships—of all the things to talk about—exhausted him conceptually. He could be as seasoned as cured pork and Kevin still wouldn’t believe him. Fuck family, but friends were just bullshit. ‘Others who might need the support’ could help themselves, and he couldn’t see his own conception of ‘friends’ being any better for him that he was now. “I’m good,” he said eventually, because that was a way to end a conversation, right? God, he hoped so.
There was something so earnest about this man, and it was throwing him off. As soon as he was told that Junhyung would get him a student handbook, he immediately regretted asking for it in the first place. Saying ‘never mind’ was treading into humiliating territory, though, so he managed. He also managed to get the water in his chosen cup, which deserved a small amount of smug victory on his part. It seemed like right really was cold, too, so two small victories. He pressed his lips to the rim and quirked his mouth at the mention of having cups to spare.
What a novelty, honestly. Zach had maybe a few bowls and a mug that disappeared frequently. That mug was goddamn impossible to find. He should have taken it with him.
Kevin frowned slightly, drumming his fingers on the side of the glass as he made his way closer and back to the bed where he sat cross-legged. “Can I work... not with a professor? Like the groundskeeper? What do you do?” It felt like an unexpected word-vomit, but he couldn’t take back the questions. He took a deep swallow of the water and managed to not make it spill. Aka he managed to be competent for once in his life. Small victories.
