Morning Coffee, a Gaster Gang Oneshot (ft. Wingdings,Starlord)
Wingdings woke with a groan, immediately clutching his head in pain. He leaned back, only to slam his skull into the wall behind him, not realizing how close it was. He glanced to the other side. Star was not there. He envied Star’s early rising, while Wingdings always woke at eight or nine, already lagging behind on his work. At that moment his work was not his priority, all he wanted was relief from the headache and a cup of coffee.
He shuffled into the kitchen, drawing curious stares from the other residents because he descended the stairs as if drunk, stumbling with each step and not sparing anyone a glance before he reached the coffee machine. He placed his mug under the spout and turned it on, feeling a dizzying rush as he touched the handle again, the pain spiking.
Swap’s parental reflexes kicked in, and he leaned over Wingdings’ shoulder, dropping from his tall height, much to Wingdings’ annoyance. His eye twitched, his face turned sour, and he knew Swap hated seeing that kind of distress, especially from him. Swap would eventually intervene, but Wingdings only wanted his coffee.
Swap forced Wingdings to turn and face him, bending slightly to meet his eye level, speaking as if to a child. Wingdings was far from a child and hated being treated that way. He sighed, not wanting to aggravate himself further, and gave Swap a tired, reassuring look. “Swap, I’m fine, just a small headache, nothing to worry about.”
A chair lift clattered nearby, and Fell rocked his chair in the air, eyeing Wingdings up and down with a raised eyebrow, the look a parent gives a child who might be doing something foolish. Before Wingdings could react, Fell settled back down and continued his breakfast.
The scolding from Swap and Fell lasted less than five minutes, but it was enough to humiliate Wingdings early in the morning. He brushed past Swap, ignoring the calls, and headed for the laboratory with a messy coffee cup in hand, not noticing Fell’s lingering gaze.
Fell turned to Swap and asked, “Want me to do somethin' bout' it?” He didn’t need rocket science to guess what Swap was thinking. Before Swap could answer, Star raised his hand, stood up, and offered a calm, gentle smile. “I’ll check on him, you two, no need to worry.”
Without another word he moved toward the lab with a composed demeanor, causing Swap and Fell to exchange confused looks. Fell shrugged, and Swap sighed, returning to breakfast preparation.
Just as Star entered the lab, a groan echoed from inside, the only sound Wingdings had made all day. He was already seated, surrounded by piles of documents, one hand scribbling nonsense, the other gripping the side of his head.
“Wingdings—” Star called.
“GAH!” Wingdings snapped his head back, immediately regretting the reaction as a whine escaped him. He curled his body inward, both hands clutching his skull, his head tucked against his chest. He tried to adopt his usual professional façade, but one eye twitched, his mouth growled, and a low rumble vibrated from his chest.
“Apologies, Star. I’ve had a terrible headache since this morning.”
Star raised an eyebrow. “Is that so? Did you drink any water today?” He placed his hand on Wingdings’ head, moving it around to locate the source of the pain. He knew Wingdings overworked himself, skipped sleep, and rarely admitted his problems, preferring to push through.
“I only had coffee,” Wingdings replied, his tired tone slipping through.
“There you have your answer,” Star said, shaking his head and resting his hand on his own forehead.
Wingdings’ shoulders slumped, his professional mask falling away to reveal annoyance and fatigue. “You’re acting like Swap right now,” he muttered in a childish tone, comparing Star to the scolding figure he despised.
He began to rub his temples, his head rotating back and forth, desperate for the headache to fade. His legs shifted left and right, a nervous habit that betrayed his attempt to stay composed.
Before he could continue, his eyes snapped open as Star lifted him, cradling him in a gentle, bridal style Star’s face bore a soft smile that despite seeming as it always does, but the concern in Star’s eyes was unmistakable as they descended the stairs toward their shared room.
“Wh‑ star!” Wingdings protested, trying to wiggle free. He hadn’t realized how firm Star’s grip was despite him not being held harshly, nor digging into him. The more he struggled, the more his eyes fluttered and closed, fatigue overtaking him despite his resistance.
Later, Wingdings attempted to rise again, only to collapse onto his mattress with a thud, letting out a whine of irritation. He felt babied by the whole residence and powerless to move, all because of a… cape?
His irritated mind swirled with thoughts of being coddled, the lingering headache, and unfinished work that seemed to mock him. The chaos slowly quieted down when he noticed a purple cape draped over him. He didn’t need to guess whose it was, but the scent of Star lingered.
The strong scent at first irritated his nose, monster's all have sensitive sense to smell, and along with everything else that was going on in hid body, and mind, he felt like it wasnt helping at all. The smell was irritating to him.
He tried to sit up, but a sharp pain struck his skull, forcing his head back into the wall once more before he fell onto his mattress without a pause. The desire to work faded as his body gave out, and the scent of Star's cape floated through the room.
At first it bothered him, the smell sticking in his nose and pulling at his attention when all he wanted was silence. But as his breathing slowed and his thoughts started to scatter, that same scent stayed with him, wrapping around the edges of his mind until he slipped into a deep slumber, not realizing it was the last thing he held onto before falling asleep.
