Why at the age of 10 many girls, including me, were told to sit ‘properly’ and not to show too much skin. At 13 when we were catcalled no one asked us ‘Are you OK?’ instead, we were questioned about the piece of clothing we were wearing. At 16, mothers told us wearing a short dress and going out after sunset is like driving without a seatbelt, both stupid and unsafe.
