I no longer care about the position I hold or the work that I do. It has become a chore, EVERY morning, to get the motivation to even make the drive to work. Sometimes I feel like just driving passed it and never look back. I love my co-workers but as each week passes I can’t help but feel like they are annoyed with me for not putting in the hours that they do. They request those hours and whether it’s a need or a want, I shouldn’t feel bad about them getting what they asked for, should I? I don’t think so. I shouldn’t feel like shit for wanting to enjoyy weekend or spend time with family and friends. I can’t take vacation or even a fucking sick day without screwing someone over, so I just don’t. I come in, on time or early, every single day. In the cases where I am late I always make up the time with my coworkers but I am hardly ever late.

It’s been almost a year since I’ve started to feel this way. Last year I got stuck working ALL of the major Holidays and this year is not looking any better. We’re working at HALF capacity and to me, it feels like our department is at the bottom of the list of people to give a fuck about. I stupidly had hope for a positive outcome when there were changes in supervision but nothing at all has changed. This department doesn’t believe in change or the prosperity of is employees. All they care about is having a body where they need one.

I now know that my want for change is nothing more than a childish dream and that if I want changes, then I’m gonna have to make them. I don’t have the power whatsoever to make changes about my current field of practice so my next logical option is to change fields. It’s not at all gonna be easy, I know that, but I do believe that in the long run it’ll be the best choice for my mental health.

My favorite quote of all time is “You either adapt or you perish, that’s evolution.” and it speaks to me on so many levels. At first I used to think that I should just adapt to my workplace but then I realized that I would go insane trying to do so. Enstein defined ‘Insanity’ as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” and he’s absolutely right. I cannot evolve if I’m stuck in this routine. It’s time to find, follow and adapt to a different path.
