Bionicle Generation 2′s Cancellation
I am probably really late for this, but I just want to post my own little essay about the cancellation of Bionicle generation 2′s cancellation.
I will first talk about the whole second generation itself, and how it got cancelled. The first year of this newborn generation was a mix of good and bad, mostly leaning towards the bad. The only good aspects of 2015 were the sets, at least for the most part, but the major turn off for that year, in my opinion were the flash animation, as it was really short and was just hard to comprehend. Fast forward to the winter of 2016, and we see some new sets, sets that were better than the last one, and as if it came like a gift from the heavens, the toy line had a Netflix mini series, which was surprisingly good. Unfortunately, the damage of 2015 was still there, and a month after the summer sets came out, the series was canned. While I can’t blame the animation of 2015 for the cancellation entirely, I can say that it was one of the factors, the most major one being the sales. There are more reasons why, but if I were to put them down, it would seem like I’m whining, so I won’t do that.
Now today I did see something that just made me say to myself “why?” It was a petition to bring back Bionicle, ya know, the resurrection of a petition that tried to bring it back during the end of generation 1? I honestly think that, despite gen 2 ending prematurely, Bionicle should never come back for the time being. Yeah, I was mad when generation 1 ended, but that was because it shouldn’t have ended there, and the way they ended it was horrible, leaving many gaps in the story. However, in the case of generation 2, the ending was pretty good, and it made the whole story feel complete. I know some people might say the ending isn’t that good, which is fine, but I think we can all agree that it was much better than how they ended generation 1.
So that was just my bit on the cancellation of generation 2 of Bionicle. Now I did mention Bionicle shouldn’t be back, but I did say for the time being, in this case meaning for another 4 or 8 years. In order to end this essay, I will say a quote from “The Journey to One”; “And should the day come, when we are in need of heroes, the Toa will return”
