western european countries: eurovision is all about politics. the balkans give points to each other, thats why we never win. these are deeply ingrained traditions that we’ve been victims of for years. so we dont put effort into our performances anymore. whats the p-

V upset @ the people who are going “ukraines song was so shit what language was she singing ugh / she can’t sing / fucking politics / it should be a party song / etc” The message of the song flew right over your head - this song is very personal to her and lots of people. It’s called 1944, not 2014. Read up on history and then tell me she shouldn’t have placed well.
Thank you for saying this! Her song chorus was the first time I have heard my actual mother tongue on TV, EVER. I couldn’t stop crying for hours, knowing what our people went through. You wouldn’t make fun of a song about the Jewish genocide but y'all are so quick to slam and shittalk what you’re ignorant about.

Al Jazeera Balkans launches ‘Sarajevo under Siege’ interactive
Sarajevo, 14th December 2015.
On April 5, 1992 the longest military siege of a capital city in modern history began. Fighting ceased on December 14th 1995, when the Dayton Peace Accord was signed. The siege of Sarajevo was finally lifted on February 29th 1996.
To mark the 20th anniversary Al Jazeera Balkans has launched a collection of documentaries, picture galleries, interactives, maps, videos, award-winning short stories and television reports within an interactive platform, Sarajevo under Siege - http://opsadasarajeva.com
The interactive website Sarajevo under Siege, is available in Bosnian, English, Arabic and Turkish. It allows users to access 360-degree video tours through locations including the Sarajevo War Tunnel, also known as the Tunnel of Hope, that was the only way in and out of the city, as well as the Historical Museum in Sarajevo that holds a permanent exhibition, ‘Besieged Sarajevo’ which looks at the impact of nearly four years of the siege. The story of the siege is told through photographs and artefacts, from hand-made heating, cooking and fighting implements to humanitarian aid.

‘My Hijab Has Nothing To Do With Oppression. It’s A Feminist Statement’
Not all Muslim women cover their bodies. Not all Muslim women who do are forced to do so. Like freelance writer Hanna Yusuf, who chooses to wear a hijab in a daily act of feminism. In a new video for The Guardian, Yusuf challenges stereotypes by setting out to reclaim the choice to wear a hijab as “a feminist statement.”
For more on on how the hijab helps women reclaim their bodies watch the full video here.
