Super late, but needed update!
SHORT VERSION: The game's development is on hiatus. Not forever, of course. But now I have two giant art project level stories to make and they need to take turns because I am only one person and they're equally important to me. It sucks, but it has to be this way. I added channels to the Discord to give updates on what I'm occupied with so I won't be silent for so long.
LONG VERSION:
In February of this year, I re-awakened this older story I had worked on for years and not only am I not burnt out on it anymore, but I've been able to easily revamp the story with fresh eyes and it is far more coherent than any of its previous iterations were by a long shot. And after only 2 months, I still have so many more plans for how to put it all together.
Because of how this has gone, I believe that when I eventually switch back to working on my game, the same thing will happen. I'll have new ways of improving the story far beyond its current state, a clearer vision for the gameplay I truly want, and more passion than I've been recently able to muster up for working on it. I never stopped caring about it, but I was starting to approach fatigue.
This new old story I'm working on will become a webcomic, and its working title is AtWaR, which was an acronym for a name I don't think fits anymore. So eventually I'll rename it, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you're afraid that this means I will end up abandoning the game, I understand and I had a similar fear when this started. But I've found comfort in something one of my best friends told me: My older OCs are Kibitzer's older siblings. I can trust them and Kib won't be left behind while they get the spotlight for a bit.
One more thing: I believe this hiatus will last longer than I originally thought, partially because I'm nowhere near ready to put my webcomic back down yet, and also because I've gotten a little too confident and joined an original character tournament (requiring me to make comics), which is going to force my progress on either AtWaR or RAR to take breaks for probably the rest of the year, but it will be a community and skill building endeavor that I believe will be worth it in the end. It's been so long since I was able to join one of those either.
This is going to be incredible, and eventually I WILL be back to working on Reboots Aren't Real.
(Oh, and to explain the previous post I made about wanting to share big changes I was making to the visuals, that was true and I was essentially working on a new background and walking sprites to accomodate a side scroller as opposed to a top-down, but then too much got in the way of me finishing those previews and now I'm not even fully sure if I'll still be going in that direction or not, so I hesitate to share them yet, especially just before going on hiatus.)
Here is the Discord for the OCT if anyone is interested in watching me (and my husband!) work on that.
(and here's their website)
When I get far enough on my original webcomic's progress to make it a website, I will share that too.
Within the Discord server dedicated to game updates, I created channels for AtWaR and the OCT so the server isn't just silent for so many months. My socials for the game will stay focused on that, but if you want periodic ramblings about what I'm up to, you'll find them on Discord.
Thank you for reading and for sticking around if you're so inclined!
