The nostalgia.

I have been thinking a lot about nostalgia lately. I realize it is something that you have to get to a certain age to experience, or maybe even understand altogether. I'm exploring the idea that it has an actual existence, a being, but one that is latent to an individuals life, and that it is primarily emotion based. It also seems to manifest in things that happened 20 or more years ago, like this performance.

I toured with Ivy during this era in 2005. I was a 19 year old audio intern who landed the gig as the keyboard tech, (i.e. roadie). Rewatching these videos for the first time in almost 20 years I am struck by a wave of that nostalgia. The people, their clothing, and even little weird things like the M-Audio midi keyboard. I felt a pang in my heart that I would never see that midi keyboard again. Of course the nostalgia is helped along by Ivy's ethereal, mood based music. And coincidentally the album Long Distance is one of my top 10 favorites of all time.

For years this picture hung in my mom's house and I never knew until this moment that it is a real painting and not just something sold at a TJ Maxx in the 90s.

I always loved the painting, (the glass doors in the background looked similar to the ones in my grandmothers house), and I believe I still have the faded print in storage somewhere.
