The bible is incredibly edited. If it fits together, which is heavily does not, it's because someone arranged it to be that way. Books that didn't match up were discarded. It's nothing more than a collection of short stories, cultivated in a vain attempt to convince generations of people to pass judgement on others. There's not a shred of evidence a word of it is anything more than personal delusion. Believing is just buying into that delusion.
Actually, the Bible is the most authenticated ancient text known to man. What does that mean? A lot of things actually…
The Bible has the smallest time gap between the time it was first written and the earliest manuscripts we have. That is VERY important when we are dealing with ancient documents because it greatly increases probability of reliability. We are going to take a few moments to compare the New Testament to other ancient historical accounts that are considered trustworthy and reliable. I usually just link to this whole video but I felt like throwing in pictures this time because I’m Extra like that
By historical comparison, the earliest manuscripts we have of the New Testament were written in a shockingly short time span from when the original document was penned - a mere 50 years. But there is so much more…
Every single manuscript out of the 24,633 we have of the New Testament alone matches up virtually perfectly, which means they were copied, not edited. They were not perpetuated like a game of telephone, they are true to their original content. How does that compare to the works of other ancient text? Look how many we have of Caesar, Plato, and Tacitus in comparison to the New Testament:
The next closest in regards to the number of manuscripts we have would be Homer’s Iliad with a total of 643 manuscripts
That still leaves the Bible leading by 23,990 manuscripts.
The foundational points of Caesar’s life, the preservation of the Iliad, and the reliability of Tacitus’ writings are considered rock solid. We believe those events happened, we believe the stories told are ones the authors wrote. So why do we doubt the Bible which is FAR more trustworthy than anything else we have? 643 x 38.31 to be exact.
So internally it’s accurate, but what about externally? How do we know it is not simply the writers perpetuating a lie? Glad you asked! Next slide…
Apart from the Bible, we have 9 non-Christian outside sources and 33 Christian outside sources. That brings us to a total of 42 outside sources affirming the events and authenticity of the Bible. Compare that to the second place who would be Caesar of which we only have ten outside sources documenting his life.
We don’t doubt the events of Caesar’s life, we don’t say that there is no evidence to prove the words about him are true, we don’t claim that these other books are so heavily edited that we can no longer believe anything they say is accurate. So why do we doubt the Bible is true?
The Bible blows everything else away. It passes every test of authenticity by a massive amount. If we disregard the validity of the Bible, we have to discard everything we claim to know about ancient history because the Bible is the absolute highest standard for historical accuracy. That’s a fact. (You can watch the whole video including why the four eye-witness gospel accounts are important here)
Please pray for California. There are over 15 active wildfires throughout the state. Many of those have 0% containment. In the Napa/Sonoma area (aka wine country), for example, over 100,000 acres are burning and some of them have been burning since Sunday night, again with 0% containment. Usually, these fires are common in rural areas but now they are are in cities so they aren't just destroying land but also houses, schools, businesses, and lives both human and animals...
Our dear Heavenly Father, we come before you to ask for Your protection against these terrible raging fires in California. We pray that you show people who are stuck in these fires a safe way out. We pray that You keep their loved ones, homes, woods, animals, and fields safe from this scourge. We pray that You will bring rains and slow the winds down so that the firefighters can put these fires out. We pray that you keep them safe as they fight this fire.
We also pray that people find a saving fear of the fires of hell. We pray that through these horrible fires that people will come to You and find your saving grace and love. So that no matter what happens they can have Your Peace that passes all understanding and walk in the light of Your Love. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen and Amen. God bless you… Maranatha!!!
What is the emergent church?
The emerging, or emergent, church movement takes its name from the idea that as culture changes, a new church should emerge in response. In this case, it is a response by various church leaders to the current era of post-modernism. Although post-modernism began in the 1950s, the church didn’t really seek to conform to its tenets until the 1990s. Post-modernism can be thought of as a dissolution of “cold, hard fact” in favor of “warm, fuzzy subjectivity.” The emerging / emergent church movement can be thought of the same way.
The emerging / emergent church movement falls into line with basic post-modernist thinking—it is about experience over reason, subjectivity over objectivity, spirituality over religion, images over words, outward over inward, feelings over truth. These are reactions to modernism and are thought to be necessary in order to actively engage contemporary culture. This movement is still fairly new, though, so there is not yet a standard method of “doing” church amongst the groups choosing to take a post-modern mindset. In fact, the emerging church rejects any standard methodology for doing anything. Therefore, there is a huge range of how far groups take a post-modernist approach to Christianity. Some groups go only a little way in order to impact their community for Christ, and remain biblically sound. Most groups, however, embrace post-modernist thinking, which eventually leads to a very liberal, loose translation of the Bible. This, in turn, lends to liberal doctrine and theology.
For example, because experience is valued more highly than reason, truth becomes relative. Relativism opens up all kinds of problems, as it destroys the standard that the Bible contains absolute truth, negating the belief that biblical truth can be absolute. If the Bible is not our source for absolute truth, and personal experience is allowed to define and interpret what truth actually is, a saving faith in Jesus Christ is rendered meaningless.
Another area where the emerging / emergent church movement has become anti-biblical is its focus on ecumenism. Unity among people coming from different religious backgrounds and diversity in the expression of corporate worship are strong focuses of the emergent church movement. Being ecumenical means that compromise is taking place, and this results in a watering down of Scripture in favor of not offending an apostate. This is in direct opposition to passages such as Revelation 2:14-17, Jesus’ letter to the church of Pergamum, in which the Church is warned against tolerating those who teach false doctrine.
False doctrine seems to abound within the emerging / emergent church movement, though, as stated previously, not within every group espousing emerging / emergent church beliefs. Because of this, care must be taken when deciding whether or not to become involved with an emergent church group. We all need to take heed of Matthew 7:15-20, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
While seeking new ways to witness to a changing culture is admirable, utilizing ways which compromise the Truth of the Gospel in any way is nothing more than promoting false doctrine and leading others away from Christ instead of to Him. I hope that this helps you. god bless you!!! Maranatha!!! :):)
How do you deal with haters?
You just have to count it all joy. Haters gonna hate and the only thing I know that can change hearts is the love of Jesus. I have been called terrible things here and I just love on them. I don’t get angry because it is a waste of my energy. I have always looked at this blog as the Lord’s. it is NOT mine. So I just give it to him. I had a young man call me every horrible thing in the book. but he was suffering. He was a homosexual and he was in the struggle of his life. The Lord was moving and it seemed like the more the Lord moved the meaner he got. I just loved him and didn’t fight him and about a year later he wrote to me and told me that he found Jesus and today he is happily married and is a Pastor.
No one can tell me that God doesn’t change people because I have seen it right here on Tumblr. When I went through lung cancer and the Lord allowed to live I just take one day at a time and I am so grateful for each day that I have and I love to just allow the Holy Spirit to move I just sit back and watch and I have to say that I am blessed!! Every time I get a hater I just go to my knees and pray for them. My God is able and time is short. I truly believe that Jesus is coming soon and we all have to be about our Father’s business in the time that we have left here. I hope that this helped you dear one. God bless you!!! Maranatha!!!:):):)
I'm going (have been going) through a trial and I feel like I'm failing. God wants to teach me something and I'm just not getting it. I feel like I'm a stubborn Israelite stuck in the desert. My situation and my health stinks. I want to be positive and not complain but I don't know how to change my way of thinking. I feel guilty that I'm depressed. I feel like the enemy is keeping me down. Why can't I be like Paul in Acts? I ask God to help me learn the lesson and obey him. Please pray for me
It is sometimes a disconcerting truth for many Christians that even though we belong to God through faith in Christ, we still seem to experience the same problems that plagued us before we were saved. We often become discouraged and bogged down in life’s cares. The fact that both the Old and New Testaments address this problem the same way indicates that God knows problems and worries are inevitable in this life. Thankfully, He has given us the same solution He gave in both Psalms and Peter’s letter. “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall” (Psalm 55:22), and “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
Contained within these two verses are several amazing truths: God will sustain us, He will never let us fall, and He cares for us. Taken one at a time, we see first that God declares both His ability and His willingness to be our strength and support—mentally, emotionally and spiritually. He is able (and best of all, willing!) to take everything that threatens to overwhelm us and use it for our benefit. He has promised to “work all things together for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even at times when we doubt Him, He is still working for our good and His glory. And He has also promised that He will allow no trial to be so great we cannot bear it and that He will provide a means of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). By this, He means that He will not let us fall, as He promised in Psalm 55:22.
The third statement—“he cares for you”—gives us the motivation behind His other promises. Our God is not cold, unfeeling or capricious. Rather, He is our loving heavenly Father whose heart is tender toward His children. Jesus reminds us that just as an earthly father would not deny his children bread, so God has promised to give us “good gifts” when we ask Him (Matthew 7:11).
In the spirit of asking for good gifts, first we must pray and tell the Lord that we hear what He’s saying in John 16:33, where Jesus says, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Then we should ask the Lord to show us how He has “overcome” our problems, our worries, our anger, our fears and our guilt.
The Lord reveals to us through His Word, the Bible, that we can be of good “cheer,” that we can
1) rejoice in our problems because God will use them to our benefit. “Knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4);
2) see our “worries” as an opportunity to practice Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”;
3) counteract our anger by obeying Ephesians 4:32, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you”; and
4) deal with any sinful feelings by believing and acting upon the truth of 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” All of our problems can be dealt with through simple faith in God’s Word.
God is bigger than all our worries and problems put together, and we must realize that if we are to have any victory in our lives. Everyone suffers with these difficulties, because the Bible teaches that temptation is “common” to mankind (1 Corinthians 10:13). We must not let Satan deceive us into thinking that all our problems are our fault, all our worries will come true, all our anger condemns us, or that all our guilt is from God. If we do sin and confess, God forgives and cleanses. We need not feel ashamed, but rather take God at His Word that He does forgive and cleanse. None of our sins are so heavy that God cannot lift them from us and throw them into the deepest sea (see Psalm 103:11-12).
In reality, feelings come from thoughts, so, even though we can’t change how we feel, we can change how we think. And this is what God wants us to do. For example, in Philippians 2:5, Christians are told, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” In Philippians 4:8, Christians are told to think on things that are “true,” “noble,” “just,” “pure,” “lovely,” “of good report,” and “praiseworthy.” In Colossians 3:2, we are told to “set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Therefore, as we do this, our feelings of guilt diminish.
So, each day, taking one step at a time, we should pray for God’s Word to guide us, read or listen to God’s Word, and meditate on God’s Word when the problems, worries, and anxieties of life come along. The secret to giving things over to Christ is really no secret at all—it’s simply asking Jesus to take our burden of “original sin” and be our Savior (John 3:16), as well as submitting to Jesus as our Lord in day-to-day living.
Some days, when life is beating us up left and right, it seems impossible to find things to be joyful. The Bible gives us a different story though. James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” The Bible says that not only is it possible to find things to be joyful about during trials, but it actually commands us to do so!
Unfortunately, part of being a Christian means that we will face times of difficulty. Why? Because even though we are Christians, we are still human beings and that’s part of the plan. Jesus went through rough times during His earthly ministry, and if we want to be like Him, (which is what the Christians life is all about), we too will have some hard knocks.
The Bible talks about people who endured some really, really tough situations and yet found joy in the midst of their pain. Take Job for example. Now there’s a sad story! He had everything taken away, and he didn’t even do anything wrong! He lost his family, his health, his career, everything he had ever worked for, and he still found things to praise God for (Job 1:21). Can you imagine losing everything yet still praising God?
There are plenty of other examples throughout the Bible of people who went through awful things that we can’t even imagine, but they all still praised God. Their perseverance made their faith stronger. First Peter 1:6-9 says, “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
Shift Your Perspective
Following God’s command to be joyous in the midst of trials is really a matter of perspective. If you really look and think hard enough, you will always find something to be thankful for—even if life seems too hard to go on. Be thankful for your relationship with God, thankful that you do not have to spend eternity in Hell, thankful for another day of life. Be thankful that your situation is not worse than it is.
If you step back, you can find the joy and encouragement that God is sending to you. Be thankful for something as simple as a bird that suddenly flew by and made you smile. Being thankful leads to praising God for those things. After all, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17). If we are thankful for something, no matter how small, we should turn that into praise for our Lord.
A Spiritual Workout
Trials are no fun, but the Bible says God uses them to make us stronger. There is no spiritual gym we can obtain a membership to so we can go and workout our spiritual biceps. We must be “worked out” and strengthened through God’s methods. Trials are one way He develops our character and our endurance. We don’t wanna be wimpy Christians with weak faith, do we? No way! We want to be tough and resilient warriors for God who can endure the tests of the flesh.
Okay, so how exactly does a person go about being joyful during terrible, awful, gut-wrenching times?
Joy vs. Happiness
Well, first things first, let’s clarify that “joy” does not mean the same thing as “happy”. Happiness is something that is temporary—one minute, you’re soaring because the teacher forgot to collect last night’s homework assignment that you forgot to do…until Mr. A+ sitting next to you reminds her. Aw, snap. Happiness = gone.
Happiness is fleeting, but joy sticks around. For example, if your grandparent who was a Christian passes away, you may feel tremendous grief and sadness; there would be no room for happiness there. But you may find joy in the fact that they were a Christian and now live eternally in Heaven with no pain and no sorrow. This type of joy can only be provided by God. Happiness won’t get us through hard times in the long run, but joy from God will.
If we think hard enough on the things of God, we can always find something to be joyful about. Maybe not something that’s going to make you “happy” per se, but you can still find deep joy.
Choosing Joy that Lasts
The great thing about joy compared to happiness is that joy can’t leave us any more than the Holy Spirit can. It may seem to have disappeared sometimes, but because we are Christians, we have been given the Holy Spirit to continuously work inside of us. Joy is an automatic part of the package! John 15:11 says, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” Also, Acts 13:52 says, “And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”
Yes, you and I both know that hard times will come. That’s just life. But for the believer, God promises that those trials have a purpose (see Jeremiah 29:11). Let’s look to Him during those difficulties and remember that no trial lasts forever, but our God-given joy does!
Experiencing God’s joy is a choice. During dark days, when we think we just can’t make it another step, let’s remember that Jesus never leaves us no matter what we are going through. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
Keep truckin’ in the midst of trouble and remember that even while you are suffering, you are being perfected for a greater purpose. There is a reason for all the hurts and pain. Remember James 1:12 in those tough times, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
Our dear Father we pray that this person will choose to open their heart to You Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to move so that they can get through this hard time and grow closer to you in the midst of it. Give this person Your strength so that they will get through this very hard time so that You may be glorified through this person. In Jesus Name, We pray, Amen and Amen.
Hang in there, and choose joy one day at a time! God bless you!!! Maranatha!!! :):)
How To Know You’re In a Mass Hysteria Bubble
History is full of examples of Mass Hysterias. They happen fairly often. The cool thing about mass hysterias is that you don’t know when you are in one. But sometimes the people who are not experiencing the mass hysteria can recognize when others are experiencing one, if they know what to look for.
I’ll teach you what to look for.

Are you ready if Jesus called us home tonight? Would you like to have Jesus as your Lord and Savior today? If you would like to ask Him into your heart I would love to pray with you. God created us in His own image so we can know Him personally and have a joy-filled life. He did not make us as robots to automatically love and obey Him, but gave us a will and a freedom of choice. Since the beginning of time, we have chosen to disobey God and go our own willful way. We still make this choice today. This results in separation from God and ends in misery. The Bible says that disobeying God results in being separated from Him.
Our attempts can never unite us with God. Through the ages, people have tried many ways to bridge this gap and reach God – without success. I believe that each one of us has a little puzzle piece in each of our bodies that only the love of God can fill. We try to fill it with all kinds of things like sex, boyfriends, children, drugs, alcohol, education, clubbing, partying and everything else that you can think of. The thing is nothing fits right in there. Only God can quench the longing of your soul.
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. John 3:3-6
If you want a new life in Christ Jesus, ask Him into your heart today. Simply pray this:
Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that You took the pain and the sins of world on the cross to give me new life. I ask You to come into my heart and to give me Your peace and joy. I confess that I am a sinner that I have gone my own way and have done wrong. Please forgive me for my sins. I receive You now as my Lord and Savior. Today I come home. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me to follow You and to serve You all the days of my life. Thank you so much for loving me and forgiving me, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer you are a new creature in Christ Jesus! You are Born Again! If you need help finding a good Bible based church or just want to talk message me. God bless you!!! Maranatha!!! ♥

Why Women Love Jerks
“Is she crazy?” I shouted at the television in total exasperation. “Women can act so stupid. The moment our heart gets involved, we flip the stupid switch!” There was an old spy movie playing on TV and the woman of questionable sanity was the girlfriend of a criminal. Of course, she refused to admit that he actually was a criminal because he wasn’t all bad and she loved him… She ignored unfaithfulness, criminal activities and his attempt to end her life, all because she loved him. And as crazy as that girl seems, I can relate. No, I’ve never dated a criminal, but I have been that girl who ignored unbiblical behavior, rationalized red flags away and scratched things off my “list” because the object of my emotional attachment didn’t have those qualities. As women, when our heart gets involved, we tend to lose all sense of logic. We all know of, or have ourselves been, the woman who dates the cheaters, the beaters, and the jerks. But she sticks with him because she loves him. She tells herself that he has such potential, she can help him change and then she believes her own lies because she is emotionally connected to him. Who is this jerk… Proverbs calls him a fool
He doesn’t fear God – Psalm 53:1
He is arrogant, ignoring the instruction, teaching and counsel of godly people – Proverbs 1:7
He is complacent (not convicted) by the sin in his life – Proverbs 1:32
His words cannot be trusted (because of lies, slander and gossip) – Proverbs 10:8, 10, 14, 18; 18:6-7
He does not honor his parents – Proverbs 10:1, 15:5, 15:20, 17:21, 17:25
He laughs at sin, it is amusing to him – Proverbs 10:23, 14:9
He is reckless and careless – Proverbs 14:16
He has a quick temper and argues over anything – Proverbs 14:17, 20:3
He does not learn from his mistakes – Proverbs 17:10
He has lots of opinions, but they are not founded on the wisdom of Scripture – Proverbs 18:2
He trusts in himself – Proverbs 28:26
Reclaiming Your Heart If you read the above list and realized that you are dating, living with, engaged to, in love with, or have a crush on a foolish man, then the Bible is very clear. If you are not married to him, you need to end the relationship. Period. If this guy/man is not running after Christ in his own life, then he is not a good influence. And soon he will begin to pull you down to his level, if he hasn’t already. “Do not be deceived: bad company ruins good morals.” [1 Cor. 15:33] He may call himself a Christian, a bible study leader, or a member of a church staff — but if his behavior does not honor God, you should not be with him. I can empathize with the panic that is welling up in your throat as you read these Scriptures. I know that the very thought of ending things with the guy makes you sick to your stomach. I know that you cannot fathom how you’ll cope or what your future would be like without him. But by asking you to end this relationship, God is trying to spare you, His precious daughter, from a great deal of heartache and negative consequences in the future. Proverbs warns of what will happen to someone who is the companion of a fool — they will get hurt. “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” [Proverbs 13:20] Obey now and trust God to heal your broken heart. Guarding Your Heart Obviously, we as women will automatically trust the man we have an emotional connection with — whether or not his actions and character have earned that trust. So the wisest course of action, as a woman seeking God, is to guard our hearts of emotional attachment until he has proven himself a wise man. How do we protect ourselves from loving and trusting a man who isn’t good for us? What does guarding your heart look like? Scripture gives us some helpful guidelines. 1. Be content where God has you. The woman who is content with where God has her in life, who is content in her singleness, is not vulnerable to the emotional persuasion of foolish men who wander through her life. But the woman who doesn’t trust God’s goodness, who doesn’t wait on God’s timing, or is controlled by feelings of incompleteness without a man in her life — that woman ignores red flags, lowers her standards, justifies a lack of godliness, and in the end gets hurt by the very man she wanted to love her.
In her book Fearlessly Feminine, Jani Ortlund says, “I am sometimes tempted to think that if God were really good, He would grant me my heart’s desire for a relationship because, of course, He wants me to be happy. But God is not good because He fulfills my desires. He is good because He is fulfilling His desires, and His desires are good for you and me. Goodness is His very nature.” As women we must trust in God’s goodness,“You are good and what you do is good.” [Psalm 119:68]. Trust that He has a plan for your current singleness. Trust that he has a plan for your life. Leslie Ludy says, “Finding a godly guy and experiencing a God-scripting, lasting love story comes down to this: Build your existence around Christ. Jesus Christ – not finding the right guy — must be the focus of your life. He must be enough, even if no earthly love story ever comes your way. God may have given you the desire for a beautiful earthly romance, but remember to continually give that dream back to Him.”
2. Surround yourself with wise counselors/friends. The woman who surrounds herself with godly friends and wise counselors will not be deceived by the smooth words and impressive gestures of foolish men. Proverbs tells us that in an abundance of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14). It’s not enough just for her to have wise friends, she must also heed their advice. When they tell her that a guy seems shady — that his words don’t match his actions — she must listen. 3. Hold off on emotional involvement. The woman who is serious about guarding her heart (Proverbs 4:23) protects herself from getting emotionally connected to a man until his character has proved him to be godly. She refrains from flirtatious behavior, talking about marriage too soon and spending excessive time alone with him. She observes his character and makes an objective decision without her heart being involved. She studies Scripture to know what a godly man looks like and commits to the Lord that she will not cultivate a relationship (in her head or in her life) with anyone who does not match those criteria. Proverbs paints a clear picture of him – the wise man.
A wise man holds his temper – Proverbs 29:11

So, why do women love jerks?
Because jerks — men who Proverbs calls a fool — do and say things to establish an emotional bond quickly, before their true nature is known. They make emotional promises that are not theirs to keep and in doing so sweep women with unguarded hearts off their feet. And once the emotional connection is there, very little can make a woman leave a fool… because she loves him.
Just because there have been fools in your past does not mean there cannot be a wise man in your future. But you must cut off ties with fools and surround yourself with wise, godly people. Because “whoever walks with the wise becomes wise.” (Prov. 13:20) “A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek Him just to find her.” [C.S. Lewis]

Hi, I'm reading Luke 21 and I'm confused about something. It's talking about wars, natural disasters, and suffering which all sounds like the Tribulation to me. Then in Luke 21:27, it seems to be mentioning The Second Coming. Well that makes sense because Jesus returns after the Tribulation. What confuses me is how Jesus keeps using the word "you". He's talking to His Disciples but is he also talking to all believers? I thought believers wouldn't experience any of this due to being Raptured???
It speaks about bothLet’s go to the Word and see what it says.
And he looked up, and he saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites (Luk 21:1-2).
A mite was one-sixteenth of a penny. In other words, it took sixteen mites to make a penny. Two mites would be an eighth of a penny. Now here are these rich people putting in their great gifts and this certain poor little widow goes up…and there in the temple the offering things are sort of like a horn and they would drop them in…and the poor little widow cast in her two mites.
And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow has cast in more than all of them: for all of these have of their abundance cast into the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all of the living that she had (Luk 21:3-4).
So, an interesting thing in God’s economy is not the amount that you give, but what it costs you to give. So, many who are giving less in God’s economy are giving more. The amount is immaterial. What’s the sacrifice? What’s it costing you to give?
When David was wanting to buy the threshing floor of Araunah, because the angel of the Lord had stopped there at the threshing floor and David had wanted to buy it and to offer a sacrifice unto the God, Araunah says, “Take it, man, it’s yours.” And David said, “No, I will not give to God that which costs me nothing.” And David insisted on buying it. He wouldn’t take it as a gift, because he wanted to give it to God. And he said, “I won’t offer to God that which costs me nothing.” What does it cost you to give? That’s what God measures the gift by.
And as some of them spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts (Luk 21:5),
In “The Wars of the Jews” by Josephus, book number 5 and chapter 5, he gives an interesting description of the temple in Jerusalem; of these great white columns of solid marble, each column a single stone of solid white marble. And how along the fascia all of these gold shields, so that if you would look at the temple, the reflection of the gold was so tremendous that it was like looking at the sun itself. And you couldn’t just look at the temple because of these gold plates when the sun was reflecting off of it. It would be hard on your eyes and like looking in a mirror. And he describes the beauty and the glory of this temple that was built by Herod, describing some of the stones as weighing as much as 180 tons. And so some of them were speaking to Jesus of the temple, how it was adorned with these goodly stones, these beautiful marble towers, and the gifts, the gold and the silver and the brass gates and all that were around it. And He said,
As for these things which you are looking at, the days will come in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down (Luk 21:6).
Today when you go to Jerusalem, as you go up the walk next to the western wall that leads on to the temple mount area, they have excavated the area to the right side of this walk. They have excavated down to the pavement that was the Roman street that went through the bottom of the Teropian Valley. And as they have excavated down to this Roman street, street level at the time of Christ, down there on the pavement which was made of great huge stones, there are these huge stones that have been pushed over the wall and that cracked the pavement down below. And you see them as they are just lying there in disarray as they fell and were pushed over the wall and crashed into the valley several hundred feet below, breaking the pavement down below. The Roman soldiers, when they destroyed the temple, pushing the stones over. And that whole Teropian Valley was filled with the debris and the stones that they pushed over the wall at the time of the destruction of the temple. But it fulfilled literally the prophecy of Jesus, as He said, “You look at these stones, but there shall not be one left standing upon another that will not be thrown down.” so, as you go up on the temple mount, there is no evidence anywhere of where the temple of Solomon stood. The temple mount that he built is there. But there is no evidence at all of the place of the temple, because not one stone was left standing upon another.
And so they asked him, saying, Master, when shall these things be? (Luk 21:7)
What things? When the temple is destroyed and the stones are thrown down.
and what sign will there be when these things (Luk 21:7)
That is, the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.
what will be the sign when these things come to pass? And so he said unto them, Take heed that you be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am; and that the time is drawing near: but go ye not therefore after them. But when you shall hear of wars and commotions, don’t be terrified: for these things must first come to pass; and the end is not yet. Then he said unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom: And there will be great earthquakes in different places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful signs and great signs shall there be from heaven. But before (Luk 21:7-12)
Now He’s going on to the times of the end with these signs of the great earthquakes in different places, the famines, the pestilences, the fearful signs in heaven, and the worldwide state of wars.
But before all of these, they shall lay their hands on you (Luk 21:12),
Coming back to the destruction of the temple.
and they will persecute you, delivering you up into the synagogues, and into the prisons, and you’ll be brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake. And it shall turn to you for a testimony (Luk 21:12-13).
Jesus said, “Look, you’re going to get arrested, you’re going to be hauled before the kings and all for My name’s sake, but that’s all right. It’s going to give you a chance to witness.” And I find it fascinating that every time Paul was brought before a judge or before the king, he took the opportunity to give a witness for Jesus Christ. “Oh, King Agrippa, I count it a privilege to be able to share with you what’s happened to me, because I know that you’ve studied the law of the Jews and you understand these things. And the things that Jesus did weren’t in a corner. Now, I myself was like you, I thought to be against this Man, and I was commissioned to arrest Him,” and so forth. And he went on and he gave a heavy witness to King Agrippa. “King Agrippa, do you believe? I know you believe.” He says, “Paul, wait a minute! Your much learning has made you mad.” And King Agrippa says, “Hey, wait a minute! Hold on! You think that you’re going to persuade me to be a Christian?” But Paul was trying. Jesus said, “Hey, they’re going to bring you before kings, but don’t worry. It’s going to give you a chance to witness.” And Paul used it every time he got before the king.
Now, Paul was taken before Nero. There’s nothing in the biblical account that tells us what Paul said, but as we study secular history, it would seem that Nero wasn’t too bad a fellow. He was actually very anxious to leave his mark upon Rome and to build some monuments in Rome. His castle is a great monument in itself that has been uncovered recently. But Nero wasn’t really too awful a fellow until in history he met this fellow Paul the apostle. The first time that Paul was imprisoned in Rome, he had his opportunity. You remember when he was before Festus he appealed to Caesar. And so he was sent to Rome, placed there in prison where he wrote his Philippian epistle and he had his chance to go before Nero.
Now, you think that the witness he laid on Agrippa was heavy. You can be sure that Paul thought, “Man, if I can convert this pagan to Christianity, what that would do!” And I’m sure that Paul laid on Nero a witness second to none in the history of the church.
Secular history records this dramatic personality change of Nero right after the time that Paul laid the witness on him. It was at that same period of time in history that Nero went through a drastic personality change and became a beast. He burned Rome because he wanted to rebuild a new glorious Rome for his credit. And then he blamed the Christians for it. But he became almost a man possessed, insane. I feel that, personally, that he became demon possessed after Paul’s witness and his rejection of Paul’s witness. I believe that he opened his heart and life to demon possession. And I believe that the things that he did can only be ascribed to a man possessed by an evil spirit. But up until that time of Paul’s witness, he wasn’t that bad of a fellow, his story.
So, Jesus said, “Now don’t worry about it. It’s going to give you a chance to witness.” And Paul took that chance every time he got it. And He said, “Don’t make up a little speech in advance in your own heart, what you’re going to say… ‘Well, I’m going to say this and that and the other…’” But He said,
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist (Luk 21:15).
Now don’t worry about what you’re going to say, because I’ll give you the words in that time. And you can wipe 'em out.
And you will be betrayed both by your parents, and your brothers, and your kinfolk, and your friends; and some of you they will cause you to be put to death (Luk 21:16).
Fox’s “Book of Martyrs” relates to us that sad portion of the history of the church.
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. But there shall not a hair of your head perish (Luk 21:17-18).
They may kill your body, but after that, they have no power.
And in your patience possess ye your souls (Luk 21:19).
What an important bit of instruction! “In patience.” God help us! We’re so impatient when it comes to the things of God. “In your patience possess ye your souls.” God, give me patience!
And when you will see Jerusalem encircled with armies (Luk 21:20),
Which happens within forty years.
then know that the desolation is near. Let them which are in Judea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let them that are in the countries enter in there too. For these are the days of vengeance (Luk 21:20-22),
Rome is going to take out here vengeance upon the rebellion.
and all of the things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to those that are nursing, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and they will be led away captive to all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled (Luk 21:22-24).
So, in 70 A.D., when Titus came with the Roman troops and besieged Jerusalem, killed 1,100,000 Jews, carried away the remaining 97,000 as captive, Israel ceased to be a nation. They were carried away captive into all nations and the prophecy of Jesus was fulfilled. And Jerusalem from that day had been trodden down by the Gentiles until June of 1967.
Now, as I understand prophecy, in June of 1967 the time of the Gentiles came to an end. You say, “Well, what are we in now?” Just a space gap. I believe that the Lord is going to begin a very special work with the nation of Israel very soon. There is a seven-year period of prophecy that is not yet been fulfilled, Daniel’s seventieth week. And that seven-year period of God’s Spirit upon the nation of Israel and dealing with them, and their restoration must come. That period has not yet begun. But in 1967, for all practical purposes, when Jerusalem became again the territory of the nation of Israel, when they drove out the Jordanian troops and they took the city of Jerusalem, at that point, according to the words of Jesus, Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled. Since that time, it’s just been a short period of God’s grace giving others that opportunity to become a part of God’s kingdom before He gathers His church together unto Himself. So, we’re just living in a period of God’s extended grace to man. But even as God said in the time of Noah, “My Spirit will not always strive with man,” I believe that God’s striving with men has just about come to an end. The time of the Gentiles fulfilled.
And now Jesus goes ahead to give signs of His return. And He said,
There shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity (Luk 21:25);
Signs in the heavens. We know that the comet known as Halley’s Comet will be returning into our area of the solar system in just a couple of years. And with the advent of the return of Halley’s Comet, there’s been a lot of writing in the astronomy magazines and a lot of speculation about asteroids and about comets, and the possibilities of a comet or an asteroid striking the earth. And it is interesting that a large part of the physical makeup of comets is cyanide. And it is also interesting that in the book of Revelation, “he saw a star fall from heaven and strike the earth and all of the fresh waters became bitter; they were called wormwood because they were bitter.” It sounds like it could almost be a comet striking the earth and that cyanide poisoning the fresh water systems turning them bitter. The cyanide taste, of course, is a bitter taste. You might pick up the Astronomy Magazine; I think it was December’s issue. It had an interesting issue on comets and their makeup. And, of course, because Halley’s is returning, there’s just a lot of things that you can read now in the astronomy journals and all about asteroids and comets. And there’s always that likelihood that an asteroid is going to strike the earth. In fact, our government is making contingency plans. If there seems to be some threat of a large asteroid striking the earth, of sending a rocket out with a nuclear warhead to try and explode it in space so that it won’t get to the earth. And these kind of things are things that are being thought of by the science. Signs! “…and the sun and the moon and the stars.”
“On the earth there will be distress of nations with perplexity.” That means that the distress of nations is problems that nations will be facing. The word perplexity in the Greek is “no way out.” Now the government is searching for a way out. We’re going to cut taxes and we’re going to balance the budget. Government has become burdensome. In fact, government has become so expensive, we can’t afford it anymore. And that’s the problem that we’ve hit. There’s no way that we can afford government any longer. It’s a monster that has just continued to grow, gobbling up everything, until it has grown to such an extent that there are not enough people left to support the government workers. I read a statistic someplace, and I don’t know the accuracy of it. But it said some 49% of the people are on the government payroll some way or another; either through welfare or through jobs that are related to the government. So 51% of the people are productive, and the rest are working for the government, supporting the 49. What are we going to do? What’s the answer? There is none. So, what shall we do? Have heart failure.
the sea and the waves roaring (Luk 21:25);
Any of you live at Sunset Beach? Seal Beach?
Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for the looking after of those things which are coming upon the earth: and the powers of the heaven will be shaken. And then (Luk 21:26-27),
Of course, He’s describing events of the Great Tribulation period here, “And then,” after this Great Tribulation,
shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your head; for your redemption is drawing close (Luk 21:27-28).
Now, last October in one of the shopping malls, towards the end of October, I saw them putting them up Christmas decorations. And I said, “Well, Thanksgiving must be getting close.” Why? Because I know that Thanksgiving comes before Christmas. And if they’re putting up Christmas decorations and Thanksgiving hasn’t come yet, then Thanksgiving must be getting close. Because it’s got to come before Christmas. Now Jesus is giving you signs of His return. Signs that will happen before His second coming. But if the rapture of the church is to precede the second coming by seven years, then when we will see the signs of the coming of the Lord, we have to say, “Hey, the rapture must be getting close. I see the signs of the Lord’s return.” That makes the rapture that much closer. So, when you see these things beginning to come to pass, then you look up and lift up your head, for your redemption is drawing nigh.
And he spoke to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all of the trees; When they now shoot forth, and you see and you know of your own selves that summer is now near end (Luk 21:29-30).
And Jesus is basically saying the same thing. If you see the trees start to blossom out and leaf out, you say, “Oh, summer must be getting close.” Because I see the trees leaving out, I see the blossoms; summer must be getting close.
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all is fulfilled. Now heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away (Luk 21:32-33).
We have the solid word of Christ. Now even as Jerusalem was destroyed and not one stone was left standing upon another, and the Jews were decimated and the remainder were made slaves throughout the earth, and Jerusalem went under the hand of the Gentiles…just as all of that was fulfilled, you can be sure that Jesus is coming again. The rest of the prophecies will be fulfilled. God didn’t bring it along this far to drop it now. We are moving towards the end. The whole system is moving towards this climax, the return of Jesus Christ in power and glory. But when we see the signs of that return, we know that our redemption is so close. And Jesus affirms it; He says, “Now look, heaven and earth will pass away, but not My words.”
Take heed to yourselves (Luk 21:34),
Now this is a message for you. “Take heed, be careful.”
lest at any time your hearts are overcharged with surfeiting, drunkenness, [partying,] the cares of this life, and that day overtake you unaware (Luk 21:34).
There is a party spirit in the world today. Be careful you’re not caught up in it, and that Day of the Lord catch you by surprise. Be careful of these things. Jesus warns you that these things are going to be like a trap for men. “…drunkenness, surfeiting, gourmet type of eating, cares of this life, so that Day come upon you unaware.
For as a snare (Luk 21:35)
It’s a trap.
shall it come upon all of them that dwell upon the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore (Luk 21:35-36),
The Lord’s command to His church to watch.
and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things (Luk 21:36)
All what things? These things of God’s judgment that will be coming to pass upon the earth as there are the signs and the sun and the moon and the stars and the heaven shaken, and the earthquakes and the pestilences and the famines… "pray that you’ll be accounted worthy to escape all of these things.”
that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man (Luk 21:36).
Now, in the book of Revelation, chapter 5, John saw a scroll in the right hand of Him who was sitting upon the throne, sealed with seven seals, and it had writing both within and without. “And he heard an angel proclaim with a loud voice, 'Who is worthy to take the scroll and loose the seals?’” And when no one was found worthy in heaven or earth, John began to sob convulsively until the elders said, “Don’t sob, John. Behold, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah hath prevailed to take the scroll and loose the seals.” “And I turned and I saw Him as a Lamb that had been slaughtered, and He took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat upon the throne. And when He did, the twenty-four elders came forth with their golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of the saints, and they offered them before the throne of God. And they sang a new song, saying, 'Worthy is the Lamb to take the scroll and to loose the seals, for He was slain; but He has redeemed us by His blood, out of every nation, tribe, kindred, tongue and people, and He has made us unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign with Him upon the earth.’”
Listen to the lyric of the song in heaven. “Worthy is the Lamb; He was slain, He has redeemed us by His blood… out of all of the nations, tribes, tongues and people…made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign with Him upon the earth.” These are those who are standing before the Son of man. And the Great Tribulation does not begin until the beginning of chapter 6. “And when He loosed the first seal, the angel said unto me, 'Come. And I saw a white horse coming forth upon the earth, conquering and to conquer with his rider.” And there begins the Great Tribulation period when, after the book is open. But while the book is there in the right hand of the Father, and when Jesus steps forth to take it, that glorious song of the church, “Worthy is the Lamb,” sung by those who are standing before the Son of man, Jesus is saying, “Look, you pray always. Watch and pray always that you’ll be accounted worthy to escape all of these things that are going to be happening upon the earth, that you’ll be standing before the Son of man.” It is my prayer and anticipation that I will be accounted worthy to be standing with the company of God’s redeemed saints in heaven, singing of the worthiness of the Lamb to take the title deed to the earth, and to lay claim to it. I want to be standing before the Son of man. I surely do not want to be down here on this earth when God’s wrath is poured out, as Jesus has described a portion of it here, but you find the full description in Revelation chapter 6 through 18.
And in the daytime (Luk 21:37)
That’s the end of the message,
he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and stayed at the mount which is called the mount of Olives (Luk 21:37).
So He crossed the Kidron Valley and went up into the Mount of Olives in the evening.
And all of the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, to hear him (Luk 21:38).
So, there was a popular movement towards Jesus by the common people as the chief priest and the scribes and the elders were plotting His death. And so, we move into the final chapters as we get into chapter 22 and Judas’ betrayal, the last supper. And we’re moving into the final events of Jesus’ life, which we will complete next Sunday night, as we finish the book of Luke.
The rapture and the second coming of Christ are often confused. Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether a scripture verse is referring to the rapture or the second coming. However, in studying end-times Bible prophecy, it is very important to differentiate between the two.
The rapture is when Jesus Christ returns to remove the church (all believers in Christ) from the earth. The rapture is described in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-54. Believers who have died will have their bodies resurrected and, along with believers who are still living, will meet the Lord in the air. This will all occur in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye. The second coming is when Jesus returns to defeat the Antichrist, destroy evil, and establish His millennial kingdom. The second coming is described in Revelation 19:11-16.
The important differences between the rapture and second coming are as follows:
1) At the rapture, believers meet the Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17). At the second coming, believers return with the Lord to the earth (Revelation 19:14).
2) The second coming occurs after the great and terrible tribulation (Revelation chapters 6–19). The rapture occurs before the tribulation (1 Thessalonians 5:9; Revelation 3:10).
3) The rapture is the removal of believers from the earth as an act of deliverance (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, 5:9). The second coming includes the removal of unbelievers as an act of judgment (Matthew 24:40-41).
4) The rapture will be secret and instant (1 Corinthians 15:50-54). The second coming will be visible to all (Revelation 1:7; Matthew 24:29-30).
5) The second coming of Christ will not occur until after certain other end-times events take place (2 Thessalonians 2:4; Matthew 24:15-30; Revelation chapters 6–18). The rapture is imminent; it could take place at any moment (Titus 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:50-54).
Why is it important to keep the rapture and the second coming distinct?
1) If the rapture and the second coming are the same event, believers will have to go through the tribulation (1 Thessalonians 5:9; Revelation 3:10).
2) If the rapture and the second coming are the same event, the return of Christ is not imminent—there are many things which must occur before He can return (Matthew 24:4-30).
3) In describing the tribulation period, Revelation chapters 6–19 nowhere mentions the church. During the tribulation—also called “the time of trouble for Jacob” (Jeremiah 30:7)—God will again turn His primary attention to Israel (Romans 11:17-31).
The rapture and second coming are similar but separate events. Both involve Jesus returning. Both are end-times events. However, it is crucially important to recognize the differences. In summary, the rapture is the return of Christ in the clouds to remove all believers from the earth before the time of God’s wrath. The second coming is the return of Christ to the earth to bring the tribulation to an end and to defeat the Antichrist and his evil world empire. I hope that this helps you dear one. God bless you!!! Maranatha!!! :):)
