Oikawa is a master from a long line of mages, though this he does not know.  Oikawa himself was adopted long before he could retain such memories, growing up in a smaller family of those with slight magical inclinations.  due to his upbringing, his magical capabilities are not fostered as they could have been; Oikawa has a lot of potential and no real understanding of it.  with this in mind, he works extremely hard to grow his own capabilities outside the classroom to prove his own worth against larger, more recognized names.

Oikawa is a strategist.  In his own canon he is very well known for how well he orchestrates his team while systematically tears apart the opponent.  he is one content to sit back and study the enemy before he ever faces them and he does not come into a fight without a well thought out plan of attack.  Oikawa is feared in his canon for his intelligence and skill  ---  he works incredibly hard to get where he is.  one of his greatest strengths is knowing how best to uplift his own team and work around their own weak points in order to provide a sturdier, more polished front.  I say this because these are skills that serve him  (  and in return, his servant  )  incredibly well.  he will stop and study both sides, he’s known to pick apart every little detail.  his servant, no matter who, will find a very strong master in Oikawa; while underestimated and ignored he will not be for long.

most importantly  Oikawa’s default servant is Merlin  ---  unless approached to plot outside this  (  or a stater call that offers otherwise  )  he will not be taking on another.

gonna be honest I’m so much more inclined to make  &&  keep a blog when I know I have friends actually interested in rping with me on them and it’s not me throwing myself into the void praying for interactions

I just  ??  love  ??  Oikawa  ??  like he just sits there existing and I would die for him at any moment.  he’s wonderful and strong and well rounded and I'm so happy he came back in the manga  (  even tho he won't be in the next season of the anime  )  and I’m so fucking proud of him for how far he’s come and how hard he's worked to get there and the fact he doesn’t let a loss stop his growth he just takes it as a challenge and keeps on trying and like  !!  wow  !!  he’s hard working and dedicated and ya he has a bit of a “shitty personality” but he’s also a jealous teenager who is growing and still learning and just because he’s upset @ one person doesnt mean Oikawa is incapeable of caring for / loving others everyone has faults and Oikawa’s just stems from the fact he’s trying to protect  (  isolate  )  himself not that he’s just a shitty person to be a shitty person  !!  and he cares about Kageyama even though he seeks to overcome the obsticle Kageyama is in his life like Oikawa is proud of him because he KNOWS Kageyama learned from him the same way Oikawa  (  no matter how bitter  )  did teach him and thats so fucking admireable because Oikawa is so destroyed over genuis’ showing up and taking what he’s worked so hard to earn which is not to mention the fact Oikawa has overworked himself over and over to meet his own goals  (  hurting himself along the way  )  AND still keeps on top of all his studies  (  one of the top students in his class  )  because he never stops working hard and giving it his everything no matter what the topic at hand is and just  !!  I love Oikawa Tooru  !!

❝ Yes, I've got it covered. You just make sure the Master doesn't get on you, 'kay? ❞ Within moments, Merlin was within his Caster attire, ready for combat. He turned to his Master and winked, waving before heading off into the fray.

-  [  ✮✩  ]  ——  They were not the focus pair.  No, Oikawa was seen as too young, magic weak  (  untrained  )  in comparison to the rest.  A messy final choice from the grail seeking its last options.  He was tired of being underestimated; tired of those pushing him to the side.  He knew as well as his servant that they were thought of as a joke.  

They would all fall, soon to be victory within grasp.

Gaze taking in the fight before them with partial hum  ---  innate trust that Merlin was more than capable of handling it  (  they had planned for this  ).  Watching others tear through each other with single minded focus.  This was a war, a fight was inevitable.  it was the side that best planned, best utilized their resources, that would win.  They were well placed patience in the shadows.  Proving themselves with each small step.  Humor lacing his tone as chocolate eyes met violet  (  hands shoved in pockets  ).  ❝  I’ll hang back and watch, don’t worry about me  !!  we each have a part to play.  ❞  Offering a laugh at the wink as adrenaline started to surge.  They had this one, there was no fear.

In Merlin’s Holy Grail War verse, the Master defaulted to is Oikawa Tooru. However, I’ll be delving more into the synergy and dynamic between them as Master and Servant.

Merlin and Oikawa are both exceedingly intelligent people and strategy heavy. Similarly, their personalities mesh incredibly well. Whereas other Masters and Servants stumble a bit trying to get accustomed to one another and flesh out a proper dynamic, Merlin and Oikawa fall into step with each other nearly immediately. It may sound like getting along is a silly advantage, but it works incredibly well, especially when you two are expected to work with one another for a mutual goal. Their philosophies are also similar, sparing Masters, yet willing to kill them if they decide to interfere after they’ve been shown mercy.

Oikawa is someone Merlin can respect. Merlin likes seeing cleverness and strategy within others, so long as there is not exceptional malice to an individual with those qualities. In Merlin’s eyes, Oikawa is a formidable Master worthy of respect due to how hard he’s willing to work despite whatever odds may so be against him. Merlin likes to see hard work in another, as well. They’re also very… I’m not quite sure what the word for it is, but let’s just say they have a similar demeanor that makes them ideal partners.

In truth, their synergy is a little horrifying due to the fact that Oikawa need only say “Caster” for Merlin to already understand what Oikawa wants him to do. What makes them so dangerous as a pair is due to the fact that they’re both highly intelligent and can outmaneuver others. What’s more, Merlin’s raw strength and excellent magic help to execute plans with not only intelligence, but brute force if need be. To say they are not contenders in a war together would be nothing short of foolish delusion.

- [ ✮✩ ] --- Part of him truly wondered how he ended up in such situations. Slipping around the corner --- sneakers sliding --- Tooru escaped certain disaster. Running a few blocks really shouldn’t leave him this tired... Though, it was worth escaping the evil dog on his tail. Who actually lets a dog of the leash when it will try to eat you when you say hello ??? That’s just all kinds of messed up.

Slightly out of breath and much too tired for this, the brunet collapsed on the next available bench. Promptly cursing his rotten luck. This is why he was a cat person. Dogs were the true masters of deceit here --- this was betrayal.

- [ ✮✩ ] --- Tooru thought himself quite lucky to have found the gym. Thought himself even luckier to find the place empty for his use. Is he supposed to thank the sheep for this? No matter.

In a flash the ball hits his palm there is a resounding slap against the polished wood of the gym floor. Bouncing towards the wall before rolling off to join its brethren scattered around the other side of the net. Again and again the motion is repeated; toss, jump, hit. Monotonous activity --- helps clear the mind.

Worn shoes met the floor with a squeak as the serve proceeded to smack into the floor near the newcomer --- jarring Tooru out of his flow ( the other having gone unnoticed ). The small thump of the ball rolling off almost echoed through the now quiet gym as he eyed up his companion.

❝  Ah….. Sincerest apologies didn’t see you there.  ❞  The setter started to pick his way forward. Ducking under the net --- careful to avoid the honestly extravagant number of volleyballs littering the floor --- before collecting the offending item. So close to hitting the other, whoops.  ❝  I didn’t hit you did I ??? My bad.   ❞
