Agreed 100% I was always hesitant to use the term “fanservice” for what is clearly just perv pandering. Because as I learned it first, it meant exactly what the name implies - rewarding fans with a creator’s nod; pleasing the audience.  

References to continuity, cameos of beloved characters, canonizing popular ships - those are examples of fan service. Gratuitous sexualization of female characters isn’t really that. I cannot stress enough that what originally inspired this post was genuine discourse over a little cartoon by a cake decorator joking about how many fathers couldn’t even spell their kids’ names on a cake. People angrily insisted that many loving fathers forget all sorts of basic biographical facts about their kids. This was cruel to loving fathers with adhd. This was cruel to many people’s own perfect fathers who still refer to them as “hey you.” It went on for days!
