Saying only women experience the sex-based oppression of misogyny is not defining women by our suffering. It's the first step in challenging sexism. If you cannot name a problem and its root, you cannot uproot it.
Saying women are adult human females is not reducing women to genitals and pregnancy. It's saying sex matters and impacts our experience of life on Earth. It's saying a woman does not need to do or be anything except female. It says all female humans, no matter how they present or what they do or whether they can or choose to have children or not, are equal in womanhood.
Saying women are indefinable, just a feeling, or characterized by stereotypes does reduce women to sexist caricatures and a meaningless identity that has no class consciousness and no clear avenue for liberation from patriarchy.
I don’t know if this is an obvious take or a hot take, but I think people need to start re-framing feminism as the fight for body autonomy as opposed to whatever this second wave revival gender essentialist bullshit we have going on right now. Once you reframe it in this way, it’s easier to understand intersectionality and why cis women are not the only people who need feminism. The lack of body autonomy effects cis women, trans people, intersex people, disabled people, poc, homeless people, sex workers, etc. and your feminism needs to include and prioritise all of these groups of people (which will include men btw) because feminism is about autonomy, not about establishing a matriarchy. Body autonomy is the biggest threat to the patriarchy, both with reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and even the right to not be drafted into military services. Once body autonomy is established for everyone, the patriarchy no longer has a leg to stand on.
And body autonomy does include things that you don’t personally like either. I was prompted to write this post after a series of bad takes from progressives, but one of them was re-hashing the Sabrina Carpenter album cover drama with “I don’t think it’s conservative of me to think that the album cover is a bad look when we’ve seen images of women being abused in this way” because I do actually think you’ve failed to understand feminism by projecting your morals onto a woman who was consensually expressing her own autonomy just because she expressed it in a way that you didn’t like or that made you uncomfortable.
Body autonomy also means unhealthy choices. Body autonomy also means regret rates. Body autonomy also means freedom of sexuality. Body autonomy also means mutilation. If you believe body autonomy has limitations and exceptions, then your feminism is most likely surface level.
TERFs are some of the biggest opponents to body autonomy, and if you find yourself thinking “oh people can do whatever they want with their bodies as long as it doesn’t harm them or make others uncomfortable” then you are far more susceptible to TERF propaganda than you think.
this a good example of a misogynistic leftist trying to take away feminism from women. women are allowed their own movement go make your own egalitarian movement and leave feminism alone.
isn't it crazy how men who despise women are being told that they're just trangender but don't know it yet and their hatred of women comes from them being an "egg". isn't it crazy how those same men who despise women are legally allowed to enter women's spaces and force women out of their own spaces who don't agree. isn't it crazy how those same men see themselves as the only true women.
isn't it crazy how those same men bully women, silence women, rewrite women's history, guilt women into fucking them, threaten women with violence. isn't it crazy how those same men have been declared the ultimate authority on womanhood.
man i feel like there's a correlation here but i just... cant put my finger on it
And trans people have fought for women's rights and for body autonomy.
But here you are with terf tags.
And content vs a minority.
that’s not true it’s women who fought for women’s rights.
yes im a radfem cry about it misogynist.
males aren’t a minority.
is this supposed to make me support sex work. this further proves that the industry preys on desperate and vulnerable people. the answer to this issue is getting better support networks and welfare systems put in place, not enabling prostitution.
Frankly speaking as a trans person who was assigned female at birth, if you crow to me about my "female biology" or "biological reality" or "female socialization" I'll kill you. Like I should get to kill you. You're a TERF.
it’s quite telling to me that you want to kill women because they acknowledge biological reality and female socialisation, and by extension misogyny. He/him pronouns won’t save you from the patriarchy, I know that myself as I’m quite literally a detransitioner. I hope you overcome your misogyny one day and realise violence is not the answer, genuinely.
This is why acceptance rates for trans people are going down and detransition rates are going up btw. The intolerance for being able to talk about a lived reality based on your sex is alienating to literally everyone else outside the trans rights bubble and also a significant amount of people in it, even if they don't speak up because of the backlash.
talkin about FGM and i get a notification “as a trans woman…” literally shut the fuck up we r talking about prepubescent african girls being mutilated to the point of chronic pain, i seriously don’t give a fuck about ur middle-class american white male ass opinion. you wearing makeup and putting on a dress doesn’t give you some enlightenment regarding the complete removal of a girl’s clit and labia without anaesthetic. go fuck urself
btw, as we all expected, he was saying circumcision is the same thing as FGM. shocker. i don’t even know how being trans has anything to do w ur foreskin or lackthereof but whatever. what fucking ever.
Unironically this is what transfeminists call being “cis”
They think we sat down one day and decided that the subjugated gender role for women and girls sounded right to us and that we “identify” with it.
This idea is made worse when you realize a lot of the men who call themselves transwomen genuinely have degradation fetishes.
"male socialization isn't real" -person who is so male socialized he literally cannot or refuses to perceive that his experiences are different to that of the opposite sex
Few things seem more misogynistic to me than a guy dressed as a woman telling you how it feels to be a woman.
I was at a "sapphic event" recently and there were a few transbians there. One of them was so loud and kept trying to be a part of the conversation my date and I were having. He would infodump to anyone about video games, worked in tech, and constantly talked like a Twitter user and would always be calling himself "dyke" and shit. It was so embarrassing for him, the male socialization was so obvious surrounded by actual women. Like most others were pretty quiet and not engaging with him and yet he constantly was trying to find an in and blabbing about how "everything I do is lesbian so jot that down!" quirk chungus redditor type humor. He was like a walking parody, but I guess it's really true what they say about men lacking in creativity. All they do is copy eachother.
Anyways, me and my date moved away from that table and to the back of the place to continue. It is so tragic to me that there are 0 actual female only lesbian spaces that I can visit in my city. I couldn't stop thinking about how different it would have felt in there if there were ACTUALLY no men. Women come alive when there are no men. We shrink at their presence because on an innate level we know that they are predators.
i lose hope for humanity when i see misogynists compare prostitution aka “sex work” to a regular 9-5 job
My go-to response is "OK, do it then. Unless, of course, there is a difference. 🙃"
i lose hope for humanity when i see misogynists compare prostitution aka “sex work” to a regular 9-5 job
What women’s only spaces are transwomen even complaining about? They’ve invaded and destroyed almost every single one of them. They’re in every lesbian bar, every female social club, every women’s shelter, every woman-centric event, every hint of girl power must also reference them or risk being called transphobic. Hell, women just looking for female roommates are called intolerant bigots. What more could you possibly want from us?
