I posted about this woman’s passing on my Instagram stories to pay respect, but I want to delve deeper into what she really meant to me as a person and as a singer. ⠀ ⠀ As a person, she brought me through some very dark times in my life, she told me to fight for my respect when I didn’t feel I deserved any, she made me ok with rocking steady and being a natural woman if I wanted to. ⠀ ⠀ As a singer, she changed the game for me. She is the voice that introduced me to gospel and the artists I have found as a result. Her tone and tenacity mixed with emotion just made me want to be a better singer and performer.
