can i just take a minute to appreciate the writers of spiderman: homecoming for not resorting to any lazy comedic tactics when writing Ned Leeds’ character ?? like (correct me if i’m wrong) but at no point in the movie do they feel the need to comment on Ned’s a) ethnicity or b) body type to make a joke. Ned is a well rounded character who provides both comedic elements and a close relationship to Peter Parker, and this is purely down to his personality. more scriptwriters need to take notes from this

One of my favorite tropes is “Villain Decay”. It’s not a redemption or reformation - the character themself doesn’t necessarily change morally or behaviorally, but the as the stakes become higher and more serious antagonists are introduced, the original villain seems harmless and friendly in comparison.
