so ts nowlin, THE LITERAL SCREENWRITER, wrote this one and omigod is it written well
the overarching text is all in Thomas’s pov talking about the miligram experiment, done at Yale in 1961. He talks about how students were told to electrocute patients on the other side of the glass, with a teacher present. They were told to do it even when the patients cried, screamed, until they appeared to die. What the students didn’t know, however, was that the patients were actors. They were told to pretend. But the students didn’t know that. Thomas says he often dreams about the experiments, but he’s the one electrocuting the other kids.
so for context, the story starts off with the movie canon of them all getting sent up one at a time, with alby killing George and promising to do better. Teresa sees this and is crying, backing her chair up and running into Thomas, who, by movie canon, doesn’t start working on the maze until about a month before alby gets sent in. They have a talk about the nightmares, with Teresa calling George “A12” and Thomas calling him by his name, already highlighting the differences between them. Then an alarm goes off, alerting the two that a breakout is occurring. They run to Teresa’s dorm, where the escaped subjects are, revealed to be Minho, Newt, Winston, Frypan, Jack?, Jeff, and maybe Clint from what I can tell. THEN THE NEWTMAS STARTS UP
So Thomas says that he wants to help and he really only starts to want to once Newt convinces him to try. Literally already gay. Teresa ends up saying that she knows a way out of the compound without any cameras. SO THEY END UP IN THE VENTS AND AGH
So here, Newt starts talking to Thomas about how he LITERALLY REMEMBERS HIM FROM WHEN THEY WERE KIDS, WHICH- OMIGOD DONT EVEN PLAY WITH ME. Thomas immediately feels some sort of connection to him, literally referencing newt as the kid he’s electrocuting. Then you have a cute Ivy Trio moment, and then it’s revealed Teresa betrayed them, which honestly she was justified in doing, she was kidnapped, girl gotta do what she gotta do
AND THEN HERE THOMAS GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO PROTECT SOME KIDS HE JUST MET ONLY BC HE KNOWS WICKED WILL KILL THEM TO FIND THE CURE UGH MY BABY YOU WERE ONLY 13 HERE FUCK. then Hanson makes the idiotic decision to fire on them bc he’s a fucking asshole AND THEN
THOMAS WATCHES NEWT GET LED AWAY WITH THE OTHERS AND NEWT LOOKS BACK AT HIM AND I CANT- STOP IT THEYRE SO ANGSTY HELP
I think this panel is really good bc as soon as Thomas says torture, “WCKD IS GOOD” is shown at the bottom of the page, LITERALLY THE ANTITHESIS OF WHO THOMAS IS AND I CANT OMIGOD also honorable mention on the next page of this he calls Minho by his name and not A7 like Paige does.
